The June 7 edition of Campus Technology includes a press release announcing the 2013 Innovators Awards, with nine honorees selected in six categories. The July 23 edition of Campus Technology included the following article highlighting California State University San Marcos as a 2013 Innovator using Oracle as one of its solutions. The university needed a way to achieve the right balance of high enrollment and elective courses. The university's plan included Oracle's PeopleSoft ERP to leverage student data. The university also implemented Oracle's Campus Solutions Academic Advising module to initiate an analysis of aggregate course demand. The university is now planning several projects, including a roadmap students can access directly to assist them with their academic planning.

The July 23 edition of Campus Technology included the following article highlighting San Jose State University (SJSU) as a 2013 Innovator using Oracle as one of its solutions. The article notes that San Jose University wanted to be the first university to combine massive open online courses (MOOC) content with college credit. SJSU continued student registration as usual, leveraging Oracle's PeopleSoft as its student information system.

Among the various results, the article notes that the need to address challenges like wasteful consumer behavior, climate change and low tariffs are prompting innovation in the water sector, with utilities investing in a range of efficiency-improving technologies, including desalination technology, network sensors and smart meters. The article also notes that the threat of water scarcity is not an insurmountable challenge, but water utilities will need to make much more productive use of water available and better educate their customers about its value to overcome it.

The article notes that 30 percent of the senior water utility executives surveyed believe it is highly likely and another 54 percent believe it is moderately likely that national water demand will outstrip supply due to increasing populations and changing environments. The article discusses that the study found the biggest threats to water supply is wasteful consumer behavior, climate change and low tariffs that fail to stimulate greater investment, respectively, and that these challenges are prompting technology innovations, such as desalination, network sensors and smart meters that help moderate demand and resolve issues efficiently, to make their way into the water industry.
