Fashion apparel manufacturer and retailer American Apparel has chosen Oracle ATG Web Commerce and Oracle ATG Web Commerce Customer Service applications to help grow its global, multi-channel retail business.

"Oracle, of Redwood Shores, Calif., whose products are used by retailers in their back offices as well as on the shopping floor, said customers including Deckers Outdoor Corp. (NASDAQ:DECK), maker of UGG and Teva shoes, has deployed Oracle Retail Platform in global operations as well as 70 stores to improve performance and analysis. Russia's M Video, a consumer electronics retailer, had deployed Oracle Commerce software to connect 280 stores in at least 120 cities. As well, it might tap other products, including Endeca and Oracle ATG Web Commerce in 280 stores in 120 Russian cities. Oracle already sells systems and services to the top 20 global retailers, including human resources software and customer relationship management (CRM) systems to compete with IBM, Salesforce.com (NYSE:CRM) and others."

Seeking to personalize the customer experience across all its channels, American Apparel will deploy the Oracle ATG Web Commerce and Oracle ATG Web Commerce Customer Service applications. The solutions will be used across the Web, contact center, mobile devices, social media and in stores

J.C. Penney Co. Inc., for one, is adding more programs from Oracle to its lineup. It already uses an e-commerce platform and web site personalization technology from ATG, and site search from Endeca Technologies-two companies that Oracle acquired within the past two years. The department store chain, No. 20 in the Top 500 Guide, is now adding Oracle software for analyzing customer demand by product and managing merchandising and supply chains.

"The migration was a good example of that drive to get service under control, and since our shop is always open, availability is critical to us and therefore the first thing to tackle," says Wolfe.

At IRCE 2013: 50% of the organization's site traffic during the weather disasters came from mobile devices, says Craig Oldham, vice president of digital engagement for American Red Cross. The nonprofit group last year built a single e-commerce platform based on Oracle Corp.'s ATG Web Commerce On Demand.

Toys said it will be using Oracle ATG e-commerce software to build its new Web platform. The decision "tells me they're looking to increase the percentage of business they do online," said Paula Rosenblum,managing partner at RSR Research, a research and consulting firm that specializes in retail technology. GSI, and now eBay Enterprises, typically don't handle operations for the largest retailers, she said. Rosenblum said she is surprised Toys hadn't moved in this direction already. "Given that they've been under attack by Amazon and WalMart both, you would think they would have done this sooner," she said.
