Home - Mahara ePortfolio System - 1 views

  •
Mahara is an open source ePortfolio and social networking web application. It provides users with tools to create and maintain a digital portfolio of their learning and social networking features to allow users to interact with each other.

Howard Rheingold's Rheingold University - 4 views

  •
Rheingold puts his thoughts, videos, course syllabi on the skills to be network smart on this site. Here is his introduction: The future of digital culture-yours, mine, and ours-depends on how well we learn to use the media that have infiltrated, amplified, distracted, enriched, and complicated our lives. How you employ a search engine, stream video from your phonecam, or update your Facebook status matters to you and everyone, because the ways people use new media in the first years of an emerging communication regime can influence the way those media end up being used and misused for decades to come. Instead of confining my exploration to whether or not Google is making us stupid, Facebook is commoditizing our privacy, or Twitter is chopping our attention into microslices (all good questions), I've been asking myself and others how to use social media intelligently, humanely, and above all mindfully. This book is about what I've learned.

HASTAC Trust Challenge - 1 views

  •
The Digital Humanities field is addressing this at the academic level. There is so much resistance to collaboration when sharing means someone else may publish your idea first, while at the same time, multiple operating/networked computers can leveraged to do a lot more work and discover a lot more when people work together. HASTAC is a good resource for learning about digital collaboration in the Humanities. In fact they have just launched a competition about building trust in collaborative environments focusing on education, youth and privacy issues.

SERIOUS * New Media Literacy - in a participatory culture. ... - 4 views

  •
The city of Sao Paulo adopted a "participatory culture" a few months ago. Are there any other cities in the world who`ve done the same?
  •
It's good that people make a participatory culture over the cyberspace, it is way beyond the limitations like in a classroom setting. It creates a social connection with one another and can be a life-long learning process.

Four Skills to Teach Students In the First Five Days of School - 6 views

  •
As I participate in, and contribute to, the MOOC for Changing the Global Course for Learning, I will inevitably tie the readings / work / ideas back to education at the K12 level. As noted, "Before the internet there were two important things to teach: content and skills, like writing," November said. "Now there's a third skill which is to build out your network to the world."

Social Media Management Dashboard - Hootsuite - 2 views

Social media management with Hootsuite. Manage multiple networks and profiles, great way to use one dashboard to aggregate your feeds and content into one area.

Very interesting examples. Thank you for sharing this. Something I need to learn more about. It seems to be a flexible way to invite groups to share material and create together. It can definitely be used in a global education way I think.

Teaching Students to Become Curators of Ideas: The Curation Project - 4 views

A great resource on curating ideas created by Corinne Wiesgerber, a professor at St. Edwards University, for her communications class. Includes a slide-share with helpful definition of curation. You can follow Corinne on Twitter: @corinnew.

Thanks for sharing this! I particularly like the emphasis on using social search in addition to a standard google search. Thoughtful curation is a critical part of effect learning networks.

Descubre, Fundación Andaluza para la divulgación de la Innovación y el Conocimiento I would like to introduce the Spanish Fundación Descubre (http://fundaciondescubre.es/) and, inside it, the network called "Divulga red" (http://divulgared.es/), thought to connect people (professional and amateur researchers and citizens in general), communicate and collaborate among them. DivulgaRed let people reveal research topics and the value of the science in different fields, sharing ideas with other researchers and group of people, all with the basis of a collaborative work. I had the pleasure of giving two talks in high-schools telling about optical communications and novelties that people can have in a near future. In a very good atmosphere, students and their own teachers asked me questions and I can enjoy a very nice atmosphere making my knowledge in this topic public. Even more, teachers in the high school were later discussing with me about possibilities in Education, and both they and me built some experiments to be made by students in the high school during the semester. So, as a concluding remark, every body who wants to share a new idea, or to obtain a new point of view, or simply who wants to introduce or simply to learn about a new topic is welcome in Fundación Descubre and DivulgaRed project.
