    Author: No author Date published: No date Why relevant and summary: Allstride is an online community and website, started by a friend of mine, that gives families the tools they need to live healthier lifestyles. With dedicated nutritional and fitness experts, this website is a great place to start for parents of overweight children, who are looking for fun, simple ways to make the lifestyle changes necessary for healthy living and losing weight. How this influenced my thinking: I am disheartened when I see families with obese parents and children in the grocery store with carts full of frozen meals and processed junk foods. I wish there was a way to reach out and educate them about what they are putting in their bodies and how what they consume, coupled with minimal physical activity, is putting them at a huge risk of heart disease, cancer, and a plethora of other health complications. Allstride is a great website to direct parents who are ready to start living a healthier lifestyle as a family.

It compares the obesity percentage of today's children with those of twenty years ago. It also gives a brief summary of how to deal with children who have obesity, and even includes a meal plan. How this influenced my thinking: This site influenced my thinking in the fact that I always thought that putting an obese child on a diet was the best solution, but this site mentions that one must not completely change their diets because they do need foods from different groups because they need it to grow. It goes over the impact that each parenting style could or would be more likely to have on a child and explains the many factors that impact why there are different styles and why parents don't just all raise their children the same . (ie personality, family size, parental background, socioeconomic status, educational level and religion.) How This Influenced My Thinking: This gave a clear, straightforward description of the four distinct parenting styles. It has made me think that when I am raising a child that I need to make sure that I remain an authoritative and not cross the line to authoritarian or even the permissive parent. I'm not afraid to admit that I'm not perfect and this has made me realize how extremely important it is to be aware of how I respond or control situations while helping my child develop in a healthy manner.
