Summary and Why Relevant: This further explains the activity theory of aging, and its benefits to the older population in reference to treatment, rather than allowing them to become disengauged, more effort was made to make them comfortable, and allow them to do things they enjoyed (nursing homes) i somewhat replaces the disengagement theory, but is seen as "common sense" How this Influenced my Thinking: Learned about more theories. elders become less active participants in other areas of life, but are not limited to enjoying their hobbies. Identity can come from what your community requires of you, or something else. How this influenced my thinking: this reinforced my ideas on emerging adulthood being a stage of unsure identity for some if not most. Credibility: American Psychological Association

Explains an exaple he used for determining moral reasoning (Heinz question). How this influenced my thinking: This further explained what each stage resembles morally. this showed me one of the examples from his research, and how each group resoinded to it. this gave me firther depth into the stages. (at least from another perspective) Credibility: Saul McLeod has written quite a bit of information around psychology and development. Simply Psychology website. has citations and references.

Most parents dont discuss sex topics and their children are already gaining sexual experience without safe background knowledge. How This Influenced My Thinking: i knew sex was always an awkward topic, but when i was young my dad explained to me what it was, and discussed puberty with me and it was normal and not odd. as i grew into adolescence it became wierd to talk to my parents. this just showed me that parents can find it difficult to the point where they ignore the issue and dont bother discussing it. How this Influenced my Thinking: This showed me that there are multiple reasons for divorce, and how children usually feel fear when they dont know what will be happening to their family. this also showed me that family divorce counseling might not always be favorable. How this changed my Thinking: This backed up the information I already was aware of, but it did clarify some things. Date Published:Jan 6, 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: It gives a nice overview of what exactly ADHD (and also ADD) is, what symptoms there are and how to work with it. it also gives interesting facts about how long it may have been around, and how many people are diagnosed with it. How this Influenced my Thinking; This just gave me a few extra bits of information about ADHD and its history, i am already familiar with it, as i have a younger brother who was diagnosed with it. Credibility of Source: The authors have degrees, and it is on a credible website about many varying aspects of psychology.

Why Relevant and Summary: This site is relevant because it gives tips on how to handle toddlers in social interactions, and how to help them interact well with others, and understand to not only understand their own emotions, but the emotions of others as well. How this Influenced my Thinking: This showed me just how important it is to communicate with children about their feelings, and how to help them understand them. It showed me it is important to be calm and discuss what is going on, instead of simply reacting to a situation. Credibility of Source: Degree aquired by author, found on ahaparenting.com, a website for parent to seek helpful and beneficial tips and lessons on raising kids.

How This Influenced my Thinking: This made me think about how infants use this as a method of learning; after observing an object until it is instilled in memory and moving along to newer objects and stimuli further their knowledge. Its the beginning of their being "scientists" and observing their environment and assessing it. Why Relevant and Summary: This covers the basics of what temperament is, and how to tell what temperament a child might fall under. It describes the different traits of temperament and how to react to them. How this Influenced my Thinking: I wasn't aware of how many various traits a child can have that can determine their temperament, i generally believed you either had a well-behaved child, or a fussy child. This gives more dimension to temperament and shows how there are varying levels to a temperament as well. Credibility of Source: Has references; linked to Ohio State University; somewhat dated information, but information that is still relevant.

It brings up the links with SIDS and the benefits to the mother and child who practice co-sleeping. How this influenced my thinking: These findings showed me that there are benefits to co-sleeping and that bonding can take place while sleeping. Credibility of source: Ph.D. Research done at University of California's Irvine School of Medicine.

How This Influenced my Thinking: It showed me how different cultures vary, and how something labeled as "taboo" in our culture is completely normal for another.

How it Influenced My Thinking: there are certain times during development that "nurture" could have an influence on the likelihood of being involved in crime, and some are genetically pre-disposed to be more violent. overall, it is a complex subject, but i believe both play a role in development. How This Influenced My Thinking: This entry helped me understand the systems a bit better.
