Technology Teaching Resources with Brittany Washburn: Sub Plans for the Elementary Computer Lab - 6 views

  •
Whether you're out sick or have a planned day out of the computer lab, writing sub plans is time consuming and often stressful. Technology teachers have a unique set of challenges to consider when deciding what to leave for a sub. This blog post will hopefully give you some solid ideas and peace of mind for the next time you need to be out. I have this other blog post about Technology Tools for Sub Plans with ideas and tools to help your sub be more comfortable using technology. Today's post is going to assume you have a substitute who is not comfortable using or teaching technology. You can skip right to idea #3 if your substitute cannot use any technology. All of the images are linked to the resource if you're interested. Just click or tap to learn more.

35 Podcast Stats That Advertisers Need to Know in 2020 - 1 views

  •
If you're trying to connect with younger audiences, like millennials or Gen Z, odds are you've thought about creating a podcast for your brand. I probably don't need to tell you that podcasting takes time and effort. Not only do you have to figure out which topics will intrigue and captivate audiences, but you'll also have to take time to book guests, record interviews, and build a solid recording space where you can create high-quality audio content.

Screen Reading Worse for Grasping Big Picture, Researchers Find - Digital Education - Education Week - 27 views

  • Among young adults who regularly use smartphones and tablets, just reading a story or performing a task on a screen instead of on paper led to greater focus on concrete details, but less ability to infer meaning or quickly get the gist of a problem,
  • The findings align with other emerging research on how students process information differently in print and digital forms. A 2014 series of experiments found that while taking more notes overall was better than taking fewer, students who typed notes on their laptops rather than writing them on paper tended to take down information verbatim rather than summarizing concepts, and the more students wrote verbatim, the less they remembered a week later.
  • For example, she said, teachers should consider the format of information when designing different types of activities, to help students focus on details or overall themes.

Patronage For Teachers - 3 views

  •
"Schools achieve amazing things everyday, especially when educators and students have the right resources and experience. However, with funding at chronically low levels in many education systems around the world, schools are looking for innovative ways to invest more funds into the classroom, beyond simply asking parents to make up the shortfall.  The idea of patronage for scholars and artisans by philanthropists is nothing new and has its roots in the ancient past."

SAMR and Bloom's Taxonomy: Assembling the Puzzle | Common Sense Education - 37 views

  • Augmentation/Apply: Using a simple yet powerful tool for visualization like GeoGebra, students explore the concepts covered in the resources described in 1., and solve related standard problems. The scope and number of the problems is not governed by what is available in the “back of the book,” but rather driven by the evolution of student understanding, as measured by suitable formative assessment processes.
  • Substitution/Remember: Students use ebooks and other Open Education Resources to acquire basic knowledge about statistical tools and procedures. 2. Substitution/Understand: At the same time, they begin a process of gathering information online describing applications of these statistical tools to an area of interest to them, using simple bookmark aggregation services (e.g., Diigo, Delicious) to collect and tag these resources, relating them to the knowledge gained in 1.

Education World: Are You a Techno-Constructivist? - 33 views

  • not only complements instruction but redefines it.

This statement encompasses what I am trying to achieve in this resource design assessment. It also clearly links to the SMAR model of best ICT use in education, by implementing learning experience with technology that 'redefines' the activity. Meaning the activity is something that could not be done without the technology used.
  • help children build on their own experiences, construct their own meanings, create products, and solve problems successfully.

Encompasses the constructivist theory I am using in the resource design and furthermore links to the method of inquiry.

In my resource design students will take part in a long term water sustainability project. A website will assist them in attaining access to multiple resources, communication with the outerworld (blogging) and creating products such as videos, visuals etc.

Webquest was used as an inspiration for my resource design, as it provides a useful platform for inquiry units to be created. There are endless examples on there. I really recommend you have a look at them. I decided to create my own website on weebly, as it provided more options and interactivity.

The Realities of Artificial Intelligence and Adaptive Learning - 17 views

Excellent article on where we are (could not use diigo highlight)   research suggests that experts literally don't have conscious access to 70% of what they do. In well-defined domains, like mathematics and programming, we've created intelligent tutoring systems that can develop specific outcomes, but even those have problems transferring into practice. Real learning comes from approaching complex problems, experimenting with alternatives, and accessing resources in the process of solving them

I think having a video like this available on my blog for parents or students when they get stuck on homework, or don't understand why we use this method would be very helpful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nvn3pUdyr_g

Clements, K. (2016). [e-Book] Why Open Educational Resources Repositories Fail? The Contribution of Quality Approaches to the Success of Repositories. Jyväskylä University of Jyväskylä, 2016 - 13 views
