I was looking for this information!
  •
The Oregon Country Fair is one of the culture shocks I had coming from the East coast. It represents an awesome culture and collaboration in the Pacific Northwest. It spreads culture and heritage through arts of a nonprofit organization. I hope to go to it this year to experience a sense of belonging with the community around me. It touches a different part of me when I hear about friends experiences rather than just a fair. It is certainly a unique type of fair.
  •
The country fair, deservingly, is one of the biggest art and music festivals in Oregon and I think it thoroughly encompasses art and culture that has developed in our area of the PNW. I love it because everything there is so unique and eccentric and of course it being undoubtedly an event to display a diverse range of artistic practices, is naturally accepting of all artists and consumers alike. In my humble opinion, there is no opportunity for boredom at the country fair!
  •
A unique art world of its own. "Absorb other-worldly path ambiance, parades and surprises around every bend. Dress up and come ready to participate in a time-of-your-life cultural immersion."
  •
The Country Fair has shifted over the almost 40 years that I've been going. Perhaps because it is produced primarily by volunteers and inhabited by creative food vendors, musicians, performers, and visual artists. These people all bring their own culture to the fair and in turn, the fair reflects that every shifting culture.
  •
I have not been since the mid 90's. I had a bad experience the last time that I went and have not gone back since. I would like to give it another try. I used to have such a fabulous time at the fair.
  •
I have not been to the fair but would love to go sometime, from what I have read from the comments and heard form the community it is an amazing experience.
  •
I can't wait and see the world class entertainers and performers, hand craft artisans and gourmet food creators at this amazing festival.

iPhone Alarm Gives You A Seat In A Global Orchestra - 1 views

  •
Wake Up With The World, an iPhone app by Pratt Institute MFA student Eric Rieper, can't solve the repetitive Pavlovian torture of being forced to wake up early every morning, but it can make the horrors of daily wake ups a more positive, communal experience. It's an alarm clock that syncs with other alarm clocks around the world, turning your phone into but one instrument in a global orchestra.

  •
this is so interesting. sometimes i can sleep through the common alarms so to have something this loud and different will for sure wake someone up and make them dread the morning even more.
  •
This is an amazing app and it is for free. As a student the alarm clock it is very useful to wake me up in the morning for school or to reminds me for a certain time to catch up my schedule. The problem is the normal sounds of alarm which can not wake me up sometimes, because I am get use to it and totally can ignore it. This app is use the orchestra to wake me up. It is great innovation.
  •
This is really clever! I like the idea of a world-wide, communal music experience. I may actually get this app!
  •
Thank you so much for sharing this information! Now, I can start my days with great music from all over the world!
  •
It can be very useful app and the app creator is so clever. I'm downloading it right now! thank you for useful info

Thank you for sharing this link. I really enjoyed watching this video! It gave so many different aspects of art and it helped me how to give a definition of art.
  •
Interesting sharing! I really like the way it's talk about art with a humorous cartoon. It brings me wilder thinking about the implication of art and how to classify and define art works.
  •
Interesting video. Really makes you think about what art is in a different way. It made me think outside the box.
  •
Thank you! That was hilarious, but at the same time... thought provoking. I very much agree that art needs to elicit an emotional response or a narrative. It's got to move the viewer in some way...as far as I'm concerned, anyway. And who doesn't love Creature Comforts?
  •
That's an awsome video about what art is! I like the way how this video describe what art is and the relationship between we and art. It makes me start thinking about virous posible way to creat art!

"Instantly hailed as the most important structure of its time, Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has celebrated more than a decade of extraordinary success. With over a hundred exhibitions and more than ten million visitors to its credit, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has changed the way people think about museums, and it continues to challenge assumptions about the connections between art, architecture, and collecting."

Portland Saturday Market - 0 views

  •
Portland Saturday Market is celebrating its 41st year in the historic Old Town/ Chinatown neighborhood of Portland, Oregon.  Our weekly market features 252 booths showcasing a variety of arts & crafts sold by local Pacific Northwest artisans. Established in 1976, our market has a thriving membership of over 300 artisans.  "Every Saturday and Sunday from March through Christmas Eve the Old Town/Chinatown neighborhood transforms into a thriving arts and crafts open-air marketplace. Seeing the Market's staff delegate booth spaces with precision each weekend for so many years, most of the neighborhood has come to think of Portland Saturday Market as a business like any other. But it certainly was not always that way, and some surprising elements still lie at the core of this unusual non-profit operation."
  •
I love this! I love farmer's market, but this is more than just a farmer's market. It has many crafted art and different artists participated. It also create a lot of energy in downtown during Saturday morning. Kind of feel more like a big local gathering.

Shapeways - an artist-generated catalog of 3D-printed products - 0 views

  •
Shapeways has been around for a few years and has gained a lot of traction since 3D printing has gotten more common. It lets 3D artists upload their 3D model and sell it in a variety of materials to whoever wants it. It's sort of like Etsy of 3D printing, except the artist designs it and Shapeways processes the customer's payment, 3D prints it, and ships it. The artist gets some money and Shapeways probably gets more, but they have really high-caliber 3D printers so that's okay. They can also cast your model in metals, including gold and silver, which is something that can't be done yet with a home 3D printer.

Nike.inc Saving Our Earth - 1 views

  •
From Nike's project, we can see that even though they have successfully sold their products to people. Nevertheless, when shoes got beat up, people usually just throw it away. Fortunately, Nike has collected shoes for reuse and build couple public facility. This is type of work that working with community and society, which we talked about during the lecture.

This is really cool considering the PR associated with Nike and their impact economically.
  •
I love Nike! and you should watch this video too! The video is about how Nike transforms recycled bottles into jerseys. http://globalgrind.com/2012/04/17/nike-lightest-environmentally-friendly-soccer-jerseys-photos/
  •
I really think this project is awesome. I never thought about recycling worn out dirty shoes, but this is definitely a good idea. My nephew plays soccer and he throws away 2-3 sports shoes every year (which is a lot!!), so I always thought it will be great if there's a way to recycle shoes. I hope more companies or organizations start this kind of projects to save earth.
  •
I think this is a great idea. I would love to know more about it. There is not much other information about it on the internet besides what is in the video. Does anyone know if Nike donates these courts or fields? That would be a great way to give back to the community.
  •
I really like this a lot. This is good for Nike public relations wise and it is smart economically as well. Nike being a progressive company is a positive for everyone involved.

Art of Moverment from CNN.com - 1 views

  •
Here is the website from CNN.com, which provides tons of art works and performance. With these, it may allow us to explore more what we seek to define Art World.
  •
This site is great! Found myself browsing for a while and enjoyed all of the different types of dance and art that it supplied. The range of style and background is entertaining and I was able to use this as inspiration for a possible art world.
  •
This is very useful website to search and find the performances. Yet is it also reports news from a expand world narrative not just a art performance. It is definitely can help me to write the assignment next week to define an art world.

I really enjoy the video, it is amazing how those flat drawing on paper could look so three dimensional, all of the shading looks so realistic. The artist did a excellent job by cooperating subjects such as pen, desk into the drawing.
  •
lol, this is really an interesting porject, and I remembered that I did the same 3-d picture once like a few months ago. Those picture need unusual painting skills. It is hard, but is full of fun.

Bryan Lewis Saunders - Self-Portraits - 0 views

  •
I saw this website earlier in the year, but remembered it and wanted to share it with the class. Bryan Saunders decided one day that he wanted to create at least one self portrait everyday for the rest of his life, and so far he has completed over 8,000 of them. On his website he has created six different sections for his portraits based on similar themes, so pick a theme and prepare to be wow-ed.

Marcel Duchamp, 'Fountain' 1917, replica 1964 - 1 views

  •
is one of Duchamp's most famous works and is widely seen as an icon of twentieth-century art. It consisted of a standard urinal, laid flat on its back rather than upright in its usual position, and signed 'R. Mutt 1917'. Shows that literally anything can be art, it just depends who's eyes and minds are open.

Annual Outdoor Show - Quilts in the Vineyard - 1 views

Annual Outdoor Quilt Show and Benefit for Strengthening Rural Families in Benton County - Live music, 80-110 quilts shown at Sweet Earth Vineyard in Monroe, Oregon (off hwy 99 halfway between U of O and OSU) Labor Day Weekend
  •
I had no idea that there were events such as quilt showings! It really heightens my attention because I would love to go to an event such as this. It really reminds me that quilts really are pieces of arts. Not only in the way they are made but how they are displayed as well. It looked absolutely gorgeous looking at the pictures of the quilts hanging in the vineyard. This post and event really touches me personally because my grandmother loved to quilt and maybe I could be able to show one of her quilts one day adding my families culture and traditions to the world.

A Local Educational Programs for Kids Collaborating With Arts - 1 views

  •
This is programs is mainly designed as summer and after school programs about science here in Eugene, Oregon. Not only does it teach kids about science and nature but it combines that with art projects such as taking plants and other objects from the forest and creating sculptures out of them. It is a great example of not only art education but the interrelations involved in arts as well.

Drag and drop gifs, songs, videos, buckets of paint, or whatever you wish in open spaces called fields. You can invite friends to your fields and collaborate with them. Make it public for others to see. Discover new work, pull and edit fields, explore the user-generated libraries, and support the creative community.

The site is billed as a "studio space where you can collage the internet." It's a relatively easy tool for combining your favorite Web objects - images, GIFs, video, audio - into one gloriously insane digital mashup.

Found Objects - independent film - 2 views

  •
About Found Objects Claire Randall, shadow box artist and wife and mother of three, must choose between her old traditional family life or a new creative life made possible by her family's house fire and her new living arrangement: a motel. Watch the trailer. http://foundobjectsfilm.com/about/found-objects-movie-trailer/
  •
This was an absolutely incredible experience. Watching the trailer opened my eyes to how a fire could affect a family and the emotions from the film really hit me hard especially when they were searching through the rubble trying to find things to salvage and the look on their faces. I found it interesting that she was finding herself and creativeness through the shadow boxes after the fire "freed" her from the duties of being domestic wife. It also illustrates the struggles a family if one wants to have a creative, art filled life and still lead a traditional family life. I cannot wait to watch the entire movie when it comes out. For me the film raises the questions: do we really need a traditional family in this day and age to feel complete and how does our relationships affect the "true" you?
