Hand in Glove is an itinerant national conference, first initiated by Threewalls in Chicago in 2011 and organized by Press Street in New Orleans in 2013. Its further iterations will be held in conjunction with The Network of Artists Spaces and Projects, a coalition of artists and artist organizers working to share resources, ideas and methods for artist-led and artist-centric spaces, projects and practices, of which Threewalls is a founding member. The next Hand in Glove will happen in 2015, date and location TBD.

Fractured Atlas empowers artists, arts organizations, and other cultural sector stakeholders by eliminating practical barriers to artistic expression, so as to foster a more agile and resilient cultural ecosystem.

Fractured Atlas looks like an amazing organization, John. Talking about it class today really piqued my curiosity. I've never heard of it and am going to look more into it.

This organization offers those with limited mobility the opportunity to move themselves physically - and others emotionally (as well as themselves) - though powerful performances. One of my favorite organizations

"For decades, arts leaders and elected officials worked to increase Portland's creative capacity with the understanding that the arts shape neighborhoods, improve K-12 education, boost economic development and enhance livability. In 2008, a region-wide Creative Action Plan prioritized the need for a new dedicated funding stream for arts and arts education. The Creative Advocacy Network (CAN) was established as an independent 501(c)3 organization to develop and advocate for this proposed new public fund for the arts. And in 2012 CAN successfully established the $12.2 Million annual Arts Education and Access Fund."

"The Luggage Store, also known as The 509 Cultural Center is a non profit artist run multidisciplinary arts organization, founded in 1987. National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that the NEA plans to award $74.85 million in 971 grants to nonprofit organizations nationwide as part of the second half of its fiscal year 2014 funding (including $2.7 million to U.S. theater and musical theater nonprofits). In addition to direct grants through the Art Works category, this round of funding also supports the state arts agencies and regional arts organizations - the NEA's partners in bringing the arts to all parts of the nation - as well as grants for research projects that build evidence on the value and impact of the arts.

Artists Giving Hope is a non-profit organization encouraging artists to come together to inspire people to act with compassion and kindness, regardless of race, gender, sexuality or beliefs. We do this through performance, education and supporting like-minded charities. We are starting with the dance world and expanding to other art and performance forms as well, including musicians, actors and athletes. The Oregon Arts Commission plays an important role in fostering Oregon's famously high quality of life. In collaboration with its partners, the Arts Commission provides leadership, advocacy, resources, and capacity building programs; it organizes valuable convenings; and awards millions of dollars in grants every year to Oregon artists and arts organizations.

"The University of Oregon's Museum of Natural and Cultural History protects significant collections, enhances knowledge, and encourages stewardship of human and natural history through research, preservation, and education." My own little place of work here on campus; this non profit organization encompasses the cultural and natural history of the Native Oregonians, New exhibits opened recently!

The vibrancy of the Mission District is due in large part the artists, art galleries, and arts-based non-profits that call it home. But the once-predominantly Latino community is in the midst of several large changes that will completely alter the vibe of the Mission.
