Vancouver Farmers Market - Esther Short Park, Vancouver, Washington - 0 views

"The Vancouver Farmers Market is Southwest Washington's #1 visitor attraction and home to over 200 vendors. You'll discover fresh and local produce, flowers, plants, baked goods, delicious food, pet treats, and accessories for yourself, home, or garden from our unique artisans." One of my favorite attractions of my home town, this saturday market really captures the aspect of this sector that we discussed in class regarding 'branding'; it advertises the fresh local produce along with selections of wine from local vendors.

Portland Saturday Market - 0 views

  •
Portland Saturday Market is celebrating its 41st year in the historic Old Town/ Chinatown neighborhood of Portland, Oregon.  Our weekly market features 252 booths showcasing a variety of arts & crafts sold by local Pacific Northwest artisans. Established in 1976, our market has a thriving membership of over 300 artisans.  "Every Saturday and Sunday from March through Christmas Eve the Old Town/Chinatown neighborhood transforms into a thriving arts and crafts open-air marketplace. Seeing the Market's staff delegate booth spaces with precision each weekend for so many years, most of the neighborhood has come to think of Portland Saturday Market as a business like any other. But it certainly was not always that way, and some surprising elements still lie at the core of this unusual non-profit operation."

I love this! I love farmer's market, but this is more than just a farmer's market. It has many crafted art and different artists participated. It also create a lot of energy in downtown during Saturday morning. Kind of feel more like a big local gathering.

Atlas of Rural Arts and Culture :: Community | PlaceStories - 0 views

  •
"This Rural Arts and Culture Map presents new perspectives from rural America, with a focus on rural youth, rural-urban exchange, and a sustaining interest in the changing face of rural America, including the next generation, and their membership in diverse ethnic and cultural communities. Most importantly, this community is driven not by any single organization, but by the people themselves. With opportunities to share video, audio, photography, and text, we give full agency to an audience ready to become active participants in a mission to create new rural narratives. We hope this map will become a manifestation of direct, local experience; a digital tool that transcends itself; a meeting point for conversation and shared ground; and a foundation through which to unite and motivate rural citizens across the country."

Annual Outdoor Quilt Show and Benefit for Strengthening Rural Families in Benton County - Live music, 80-110 quilts shown at Sweet Earth Vineyard in Monroe, Oregon (off hwy 99 halfway between U of O and OSU) Labor Day Weekend
  •
I had no idea that there were events such as quilt showings! It really heightens my attention because I would love to go to an event such as this. It really reminds me that quilts really are pieces of arts. Not only in the way they are made but how they are displayed as well. It looked absolutely gorgeous looking at the pictures of the quilts hanging in the vineyard. This post and event really touches me personally because my grandmother loved to quilt and maybe I could be able to show one of her quilts one day adding my families culture and traditions to the world.

Not only does it teach kids about science and nature but it combines that with art projects such as taking plants and other objects from the forest and creating sculptures out of them. It is a great example of not only art education but the interrelations involved in arts as well.
