Portland Saturday Market - 0 views

  •
Portland Saturday Market is celebrating its 41st year in the historic Old Town/ Chinatown neighborhood of Portland, Oregon.  Our weekly market features 252 booths showcasing a variety of arts & crafts sold by local Pacific Northwest artisans. Established in 1976, our market has a thriving membership of over 300 artisans.  "Every Saturday and Sunday from March through Christmas Eve the Old Town/Chinatown neighborhood transforms into a thriving arts and crafts open-air marketplace. Seeing the Market's staff delegate booth spaces with precision each weekend for so many years, most of the neighborhood has come to think of Portland Saturday Market as a business like any other. But it certainly was not always that way, and some surprising elements still lie at the core of this unusual non-profit operation."

I love this! I love farmer's market, but this is more than just a farmer's market. It has many crafted art and different artists participated. It also create a lot of energy in downtown during Saturday morning. Kind of feel more like a big local gathering.

Contemporary Oregon Visions: Jo Hamilton and Irene Hardwicke Olivieri - 0 views

  •
These two contemporary Oregon artists offer two substantially different but equally innovative approaches to figurative art. Hamilton, born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1972, found her true home when she moved to Portland in 1996. After painting for almost twenty years, her artistic practice was transformed when she visited a non-traditional textile arts exhibition. From there she was inspired to fuse the two parts of her life that were closest to her-her daily urban environment and her grandmother's tradition of crochet. Often portraying friends and co-workers from her days in the food-service industry, Hamilton's work displays a whimsical and affectionate vision of working-class Portland. As her work has progressed, she has taken on other subjects as well, including mug shots from Multnomah County, industrial landscapes of Portland, and full-figure nudes.

Wampire After forming Wampire, Rocky Tinder and Eric Phipps steadily began to make a name for themselves in the same Portland, OR, scene that has produced labelmates STRFKR as well as Unknown Mortal Orchestra. It makes sense, then, that Wampire came to Polyvinyl's attention when the duo opened for STRFKR at a hometown Portland show and that UMO's bassist Jacob Portrait produced Wampire's debut full-length, Curiosity.
