"The paperless classroom is a compelling concept for what it symbolizes as much as anything else. While it sounds sleek and futuristic and easy to organize and environmentally friendly, the reality is that paperless classrooms aren't that simple. The "environmentally-friendly" part, for example, is wildly subjective: the costs of manufacturing-and eventually recycling and disposing of-tablets versus the loss of "renewable" trees and the subsequent waste that is environmentally-friendly."

Andhra Pradesh is poised to add 200 MW of wind power farms shortly and has accorded clearance for 2,636 MW of wind power generation capacity, according to Minnie Mathew, Chief Secretary, Andhra Pradesh. Delivering her inaugural address at the CII Conference, she said the State currently has an installed capacity of 197 MW of wind energy and plans to lay special thrust on boosting generation capacity from renewable energy sources. She said the State Government is working on a tariff mechanism for renewable energy which will make it lot more attractive for wind and solar power generation companies.

"As the school year draws to a close, I am looking forward to the laidback freedom of summer with its less hectic schedule and longer daylight hours. If I'm being completely honest, there's something really incredible about turning off my alarm clock for the foreseeable future. For me, it's time to recharge, to reflect and to prepare to return to the classroom and library renewed with energy and ideas. As an educator, I'm also keenly aware of the potential for kids to suffer from the summer slide-a loss of academic progress over the course of the summer months. According to a study done by the Colorado Department of Education, children in low-income households fall behind an average of 2 months in reading during the summer. And, summer slide is cumulative, with these learning losses building up each summer. The basic solution? Stay engaged in learning: read, write, do some math."

A workshop on urban governance was organized in Kolkata on Tuesday where chairpersons and mayors of several municipalities and municipal corporations of the state were present. The progress of schemes that was discussed in the meeting were the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission ( JNNURM) scheme, Swarna Jayanti Sahari Rojkar Yojona scheme, the urban livelihood mission scheme, housing for urban poor, national social assistance programme and the BSUP schemes.
