  • Diigo - a must-have for online research Posted by Prof Wesch under Web 2.0 , Tutorial  Students, Get Diigo now. This is the greatest thing that ever happened to on-line research. If you use Firefox, there is a Diigo extenstion that will create a toolbar in your browser. Diigo will revolutionize the way you do online research by allowing you to do the following: bookmark and tag any site with the touch of a button write your own comments on the site for later viewing highlight important passages (only you can see your highlights) post virtual sticky notes directly on the webpage that only you can see store all your highlights and stickynotes in one place for later review share your bookmarks with others (if you prefer) This is just the beginning. The tool is amazingly flexible and has the potential to do even more. If you do most of your research online, give it a try.

IT|Redux » Office 2.0 Feature Tracker - 0 views

  • The Diigo social annotation and bookmarking tool was formally launched today. I won’t go into the details of this release, for my friend Brian Benzinger has done a much better job than I ever could, with one of his usual thorough reviews. What I would like to focus on instead is how service providers such as Diigo manage to quickly release features requested by users. Back in January, I requested a version of Diigo that would work without any browser extension. Six weeks later, the good folks at Diigo released a working implementation, and this experience became the first instance of a successful request/release process for advanced Office 2.0 features. I very much like working with solutions for which I can have an input in the development process, and the more reactive the provider, the better.

  • Until now, most people were not on the internet so naturally you got your programs on a disk…  now we’re seeing more and more web based applications, and Web 2.0.  If you don’t know what this is figure it out, try delicious, google docs, diigo, netvibes, wordpress…  point is everyone can create and sort the content, not just "webmasters"  the internet is an extension of our minds, we can’t leave it to corporations to create and organize the content for obvious reasons…  all corporations have their vested interests and see the public as consumers, they’d rather you buy something from them, doesn’t matter if its the best or in your best interest or good for your health, etc.  the web 2.0 movement has been mostly a public movement

MeaningPhil Stuff?: Web 2.0 in the Classroom - 0 views

  • I just finished teaching a computer ethics course at Judson University--okay, it's still Judson College now, but they will be changing to University this Fall (www.judsoncollege.edu). I used a web 2.0 tool called diigo (www.diigo.com). Diigo is an acronym for "Digest of Internet Information, Groups and Other stuff".It may be that you've heard of del.icio.us which is a very popular social bookmarking tool. Diigo is a social bookmarking tool plus annotation tool. It allows you to read an article, bookmark it, and within the article, make annotations like "highlighting" and "sticky note comments". This makes it an awesome research tool.In the past I have had students bring articles to class that pertain to the assigned chapters, but this time I made this an entirely digital activity. The students were to find online articles, book mark, annotate, and share them with the group forum that I set up for them. We then, with the group forum on the projector screen, would have each student talk us through their article. While this tool is still in "beta" the student assessment survey that was taken at the end of the last class seemed to indicate that this activity was well received.

My first example (on your #1 post) is shown without rich format text editing. Line spacing there seems to be preserved just fine. My Bookmarks area - will get that fixed.
