Morland's research was conducted over a 6 month span in 2003. Telephone surveys were used to call random telephone numbers in the phonebook in the states of North Carolina and Mississippi. These telephone surveys asked the recipients for their address, gender, height and body weight. The height and body weight was used to calculate for obesity. This study is especially useful to my research because it analyzes the addresses of the survey recipients and compares them to the concentration of fast food restaurants in that area. The important information I could use is that the more concentrated the fast food restaurants were, the more obesity was found within that area.

The authors report on the results of a telephone survey of 1,001 employees of seven large corporations conducted for the Business Roundtable as part of its public policy program. A set of 20 questions keyed to the Voluntary National Content Standards in Economics was embedded in the survey. A measure of economic literacy was constructed from the survey results. Greater economic literacy was associated with more overall education, more college economics coursework, high incomes, and being male. An examination of individual test questions revealed that previous college economics had substantial effects on employees' current economic literacy. (Abstract from JSTOR.) His surveys included results by race, gender, and location along with many others. The stastics are starteling and valuable for research on financial literacy.

Many surveys have shown that high school seniors continue to fail financial literacy tests. The surveys indicate that our current education standards are insufficient to prepare students for the real world.

College students today face a difficult time with easy access to a credit card and a lack of financial literacy. The authors' study concluded that the average college student is currently accumulating debt at an increasing rate. They believe the allure and purchasing power of a credit card causes some young adults to forgo their own inhibitions and just spend. This study provides an excellent source of quantitative information in the form of survey responses and charts. The authors break down their survey group into many categories, such as age and sex, to examine debt. The plethora of data allows correlations to be made and therefore a better understanding of college student credit card debt. However, the sample size was only 448 students on five college campuses, and in the future, a larger sample size could provide a more detailed and accurate analysis.

This article is an overview of a financial literacy survey done by the company Jump$tart. The survey involved questioning high school and college students across the country. The results show that although college students literacy is a little higher, in general this target age group has low financial literacy.

This article measures the use of alcohol marijuana and cocaine among college students. This article talks about excess uses of these drugs and their effects on negative behavior. This survey was taken and it asked students how many times they used alcohol, marijuana or cocaine and how it affected their behavior socially. Demographics and social class plays roles in the different users in college. This article is great for me because it helps me better understand usage and its social behavioral effects on college students. This gives me information of the prevalence of marijuana use among college students and the rates of use. This is statistical data of 1,400 students helps me use and understand the information in my paper. With this information I can compare it to other articles and surveys taken.

Scheibehenne conducted computerized surveys in a mall food court in Berlin, Germany. In a controlled setting, 20 different platter options of food were presented and customers were able to choose their meal freely. After choosing, they completed a computerized survey called an FCQ of food choice questionnaire. The unique purpose of this study was to determine the level in which humans make food choices based on heuristics, or "rule of thumb" choices. Interestingly, the results from this study show that the heuristic choices that humans make are just as significant as any other reason for making food decisions. This suggests that nutrition labels on a cereal box, for example, may not be influencing humans as much as the heuristic approach to food choice.

This article describes a curriculum designed to assist 64 post baccalaureate minority students in developing and practicing a stress-management technique. Students participated in deep breathing meditation exercises in two classes and they completed surveys before and after as well as follow-up surveys each academic year. This is a great article for me because I can use this statistical information against alcohol use and it more negative effects rather than marijuana negative effects. There is a lot more interesting statistical data I can use to show evidence of marijuana usage compared to alcohol use. Alcohol use compared to marijuana are a lot different alcohol in the long run is a lot worse for humans. Marijuana is a lot more laid back drug with no dependence.

This article talks about marijuana and other drugs use and rise among college students. There is a sample of 119 schools that consist of different demographics. There is different samples that take into account social usage of the drug and other illicit uses of the drug among college students. This was sample taken to monitor the use of marijuana and other drugs among college students. Rates are higher in public institutions compared to private institutions. This is good insight on the uses of marijuana and how it relates to different college and demographics in collegiate atmospheres. These surveys will help support my statistical information needed to present better understanding of this information. With this in mind there are other things that I will be using in my research to back up the information in my paper. With a well rounded institution like Harvard I understand how the insight will perform in my paper.

This article addresses men and women in political coverage and the media. When women make decision about who to vote for, they rely more on their close relatives and friends, while men rely more on the media and other coverage. Men, especially when younger pay more attention to the media and read the news paper for political information versus women. The researches conducts a survey in which it shows women are tended to be more democratic than men so this can affect the way they choose to vote. This article will be useful to my research because it shows how men and women use different forms of literacy to vote. This is an outside perspective and it allows a researcher to see the other side of the voting process. This article also proves the point women tend to be more democratic, which can mean if a women is running as a Republican, they are less likely to attract women voters.

Financially literate people are imperative to an economy because they make good financial decisions that help stimulate the economy. The author emphasizes the need for individuals (especially low income families to write out a written budget monthly. Consumers should establish emergency funds, practice good saving habits and have knowledge of investment funds. Through the surveys conducted in the article there is a correlation between knowledge of financial practices with and financial achievement. The author emphasizes the need to expand on ones' personal financial knowledge in a way befitting to the individual.
