This article addresses how the media pays more attention to an election when there is more diversity in the race, gender being one of them. If a female is running against a male more attention is likely to be displayed about the election. This specific article addresses women running for Mayor and the different media coverage they receive. It also talks about women running for senate and how they often have negative press coverage. Coverage of women politicians is different than those of men. Geographically, women are not covered (media) the same in every state and this also effects if a women has a chance at winning. This article will help me greatly in my paper because it research specific elections and shows results from many different polls. Since it addresses different races, such as Senator and Mayors and their races, I can use this information for an example to show people how women are not covered the same in media coverage during a political election. I can also use this article to show how when a women is running against a man, there is different emphasis on certain issues.

this was a cool little study i found about how roommates of different race effect your experience at college. this shows brought my mind to think of different directions to take on my community study and how race could possibly effect the tensions and social relationships between two people in the group.

This paper investigates gender differences in academic performance among university athletes at an NCAA Division I school. Using regression analysis, the findings suggest that background scholastic achievement variables and race influence university academic performance for student athletes, but sport participation measures and race are negatively related to university academic performance for males only. This journal examines the use of alcohol and drug use among college students. They also take into account excessive use of alcohol and why students drink due to social interactions. They also examine race and its factor of alcohol and marijuana use. Alcohol use is among the highest among Whites followed by Hispanics and than Blacks. They also examine the effects of alcohol and its negative effects on college students. This journal also takes into account gender and economic standing. This journal provides some interesting insight on alcohol and drug use and abuse. With this in mind there is a better understanding of why college students use alcohol excessively. Also there are some good statistics with information on alcohol and drug use among students with respect to race and gender. This article affirms some legitimate information supporting alcohol use among college students. This journal also has some prestigious Universities with different statistical information that gives me broader information on use and abuse of drugs.

It speaks about the use of derogatory terms in reference to race instead of culture. It is an article about the persona Eminem puts on with his raps and lyrics, and the real meaning which is underlying throughout the derogatory terms and crude ideas.

This article talks about how race and ethics differs the way parents talk to their children. It shows that white mothers are more likely to talk and read to their children every day than black and hispanic mothers. It talks about how this affects the childrens readiness and there is a 20 to 25 precent gap with children that are white and other minority.

This article discusses the most recent presidential election and gender bias words used in the media against Hilary Clinton. In many cases she was referred to as "bitch". People often focus on her negative influence and the fact she is a women in the media instead of the positive things she has done. This is very much an opinion piece but shows a different side of the argument. I can use this in my paper to show how gender bias literacy can be used in the media to help persuade voters to vote a certain way. This also shows how by discriminating by race can take away from the positive qualities because the media is to focused on the sex of the person. I can use this example to prove this.

Rubin describes how sexism is more socially acceptable that racism in our society. Rubin states it plays a bigger role in politics than most people believe. This also discusses how John McCain addressed Hilary Clinton when asked "How do we beat the bitch?" and he responded. This article also addresses Barack Obama and his stance on sexism and racism. This article would be useful in my paper because it describes a good example of how sexism can be used in a presidential election and the difference between sexism and racism. Although it does not relate directly to literacy, it does relate directly to politics and the views of sexism in the previous elections and with media. I can use this for a solid example and explanation against women.

Mandell and Lewis explain that young adults possess insufficient knowledge when it comes to the world of personal finance. This assertion is not new and many researchers have come to a similar conclusion, but the two authors believe young adults in other countries such as Japan and Australia lack financial literacy. Their study focused on whether teenagers lack of motivation inhibited their assimilation of information during finance classes. the researchers believe teens just don't believe financial literacy is important. Their study included five national surveys, with results broken down by different demographics such as sex, race and family income.

Kwate's research primarily served to analyze the density of fast-food restaurants in New York City with a focus on the correlations of race and economic status or income on restaurant density. This research is especially beneficial to me because the data from this source is from the perspective of a United States major city. Results from this study showed that there were more restaurants in black areas than there were in white areas. Also economic status or income of the population did not seem to have a correlation with fast-food restaurant density.

This article brings up the cultural dynamic that Oprah has created. She has a huge following of every race and has brought many cultures together through reading. She has a large black and also white fan base in women. She has brought all of these people together with the love for reading good books. She is talked about again in this article as being a phenomenon. This is a good point that will be good for my paper because it is a different view. Not only does she send sales of books through the roof, she also brings groups of all different people together on one common ground.

They talk about the risks associated with smoking tobacco and marijuana and how with alcohol use these risks increase. With marijuana use on the rise many health related problems associated with cigarettes and alcohol are increasing. With statistical data taken this alcohol and tobacco problems are increasing yearly. This article give me some important insight on the relation of tobacco and marijuana use. There are many relations with alcohol consumption and tobacco use but marijuana and tobacco use are also very closely related. Tobacco use among Whites in regards to race is much higher than it is with Blacks and Hispanics. This is some important statistical information closely related to my topic. Tobacco and marijuana use are closely related.

Race does play a role showing higher accessibility and use among Hispanic students compared to white students. Many drugs are used and obtained on campus' and many students are unaware of this issue. This article gives me more insight on alcohol and drug use. This helps me obtain more broad information of policies and usage of drugs among high school and college students. This article with present information of the attitudes and frequency of drug and alcohol use among students. With this information I have much better insight on the ways and uses of college students during school.
