This article discusses the great impact that self-concepts have on students' grades and performance, mainly in English and mathematics. These authors found different results than have previously been found in tests; they found that "there were significant positive paths from math self-concepts to subsequent math outcomes but not to subsequent English outcomes." Also, they found that girls had higher English and math grades but lower math self-concepts then boys, these results differ from previous test which claimed that the gender difference was diminishing. These results were interesting due to their difference in regards to other tests conducted.

A 20 page survey on the impact of financial literacy classes and survey results. The surveyor examines results from every state and uses many detailed questions. His surveys included results by race, gender, and location along with many others. The stastics are starteling and valuable for research on financial literacy.

This article explores how genetics makes differences in learning for children. It researches two children and based on these results it makes assumptions about genetic roles playing apart in learning. It goes on to say the results of their findings and what they have learned and infered as a result. It is helpful if you are researching the effects of genetics on literacy or effects of literact learning rates in children.

This research was conducted between 12 young obese male students. A series of mental tests as well as a physical abilities test was administered and results were compared to those of healthy-weighted boys of the same age. Results showed no difference between mental tests of obese and normal boys, however the Wisconsin card sorting test demonstrated that obese boys had more difficulty as the test involved continuous shifting of the body. I do not find this study beneficial to my research. It provides factual information, but I feel that it could only serve to demonstrate how obesity can cause negative effects within young children.

These authors studied a number of popular search engines, including Google, to discover if they can find librarian acceptable information. In order to do this they entered in several key words and looked at the first one hundred results. Once completing these tests the authors discovered what percent of each search engine was librarian acceptable. It also lists the total number of results of each search engines. These authors' research gives a representation of the reliability of a number of search engines including Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

The authors report on the results of a telephone survey of 1,001 employees of seven large corporations conducted for the Business Roundtable as part of its public policy program. A set of 20 questions keyed to the Voluntary National Content Standards in Economics was embedded in the survey. A measure of economic literacy was constructed from the survey results. Greater economic literacy was associated with more overall education, more college economics coursework, high incomes, and being male. An examination of individual test questions revealed that previous college economics had substantial effects on employees' current economic literacy. (Abstract from JSTOR.) This journal, The Journal of Economic Education, may be worth checking out for those studying financial literacy.

The Authors of this article have conducted a study on 710 college students who were taking Pre-Calculus class. They were split into a controlled group, and a test group. The control group took the course using basic technology, and text books. The test group used graphics calculators and textbooks geared towards learning with graphics calculators. At the end of the course the students were required to take a comprehensive exam. The results showed that the students who took the course with the graphics calculators scored much higher than those who took the course in the traditional fashion. This study was conducted over a period of three semesters, and will prove very useful in my argumentation.

This article addresses how the media pays more attention to an election when there is more diversity in the race, gender being one of them. If a female is running against a male more attention is likely to be displayed about the election. This specific article addresses women running for Mayor and the different media coverage they receive. It also talks about women running for senate and how they often have negative press coverage. Coverage of women politicians is different than those of men. Geographically, women are not covered (media) the same in every state and this also effects if a women has a chance at winning. This article will help me greatly in my paper because it research specific elections and shows results from many different polls. Since it addresses different races, such as Senator and Mayors and their races, I can use this information for an example to show people how women are not covered the same in media coverage during a political election. I can also use this article to show how when a women is running against a man, there is different emphasis on certain issues.

Mandell and Lewis explain that young adults possess insufficient knowledge when it comes to the world of personal finance. This assertion is not new and many researchers have come to a similar conclusion, but the two authors believe young adults in other countries such as Japan and Australia lack financial literacy. Their study focused on whether teenagers lack of motivation inhibited their assimilation of information during finance classes. the researchers believe teens just don't believe financial literacy is important. Their study included five national surveys, with results broken down by different demographics such as sex, race and family income.

Colletti discusses the coordinated approach to financial literacy for girls that was started by the National Coalition of Girls' Schools in the U.S. The article stresses the importance for woman and girls to have sound financial literacy for success. Children have an understanding of finance and fairness even at a very young age. Therefore, young children are capable of learning about financial literacy at a very early age. The article also shares results of a financial skills study of teenage girls. Financial literacy education is a tool to help bridge the gap that woman have experienced throughout the ages.

The Author suggests that many of Americans Financial difficulties are brought about as a result of a lack of self-regulation. A lack of financial literacy can hit lower-income families the hardest because of their ability to be exploited. Consumers with lack of financial knowledge find themselves caught up in short term benefits rather than long term benefits. Proper knowledge of strategies would enable many individuals to avoid problems and better prepare themselves for the future by protecting themselves in the present.

In this article the authors go over several studies that they conducted dealing with giving young children different materials to play with and having them observe different activities. The authors examined the results that they found and concluded how the children would react or how they were more inclined to act based on how they thought. This is interesting based on the different way the children acted and if this has anything to do with what subjects they would be better at.

In this article the authors examine different self-concepts of 3000 students in England between the ages of 13 and 14 years. The subjects tested were English, science, and mathematics. The results were found to be similar to other test that had been done before. An interesting finding was that boys had significantly higher self-concept scores than girls, except for in English.

Math anxiety is the main focus in this article. The authors discuss a case study done on students from Taiwan, China, and the United States. A very interesting point that was discussed was how gender affected the results found. This article would be interesting to evaluate in regards to how math anxiety affected other subjects of study and if gender had affects in different subjects.

This study can be beneficial to my research. One of the purposes of this study was to examine the preferences of college students when given crackers with 2 different kinds of cream cheese, being high-fat and low-fat, spread on it. The results were not shocking, as students favored the taste of the high-fat cream cheese over the low-fat cream cheese. I could use these findings to support my research in that taste plays an important factor in food selection.

I found this study to be extremely valuable to my research. This study examined the effects of high or low stress levels on men and women in their choice of healthy or unhealthy snacking. Results showed that stress levels do, in fact, effect human decision of food choice. Stressful men chose healthier snacks than when they were not stressed, but conversely, stressful women chose unhealthier snacks than when they were not stressed. This factor is extremely beneficial to my research as it may provide an explanation as to why humans make the food choices they do.

This article discusses what is critical thinking and tells about how there is no set definition. There are also many people who have tried to develop ways in which to measure ones critical thinking abilities. One such case was a study where they examine students' exams from a college class about Sociology of Marriage and Family and they discussed the results and findings from this study. This article is noteworthy due to its analysis of critical thinking and its interesting study.

This study analyzed the acceptance of a school cafeteria based program called "Kid's Choice", where students are given increased amounts of healthy vegetables and fruits in their lunch meals. Results were compared between those who were overweight and those considered average-weight. The study found that both groups were equally accepting the program and would continue the program after the 1 month trial. This study would help my research because it shows that children who are overweight are, in fact, willing and able to make positive changes in their diets to improve their body weight and overall health.

Rolls conducted a unique experiment to test the effect of varying plate sizes on the amount of energy consumed within the chosen servings. This experiment was conducted in a laboratory setting over the course of 2-3 weeks. It was found that there was not a correlation between plate size and the amount of energy consumed. Results did show that overall, men consumed more than women. This study is beneficial to my research because it analyzes the unique factor of plate size and how it relates to food consumption.
