Pearce conducted research throughout the country of New Zealand. The purpose was to study the relationships between how easily accessible fast-food restaurants are to the consumer and the effects of having a proper recommended nutritional diet. Surprisingly, this study suggested that neighborhood access to fast-food restaurants is not a likely factor in unhealthy diets. I may not use this study in my research paper, as I feel that it does not provide conclusive "either or" results.

This article is about an experiment/ study that was conducted about health literacy and adolescents. The study was conducted in Australia. It tested the mental health literacy of adolescents and the effected that SMS messages had on them. The study did not have exact outcomes and more research has to be done in order to report exact information.

This study analyzed the acceptance of a school cafeteria based program called "Kid's Choice", where students are given increased amounts of healthy vegetables and fruits in their lunch meals. Results were compared between those who were overweight and those considered average-weight. The study found that both groups were equally accepting the program and would continue the program after the 1 month trial. This study would help my research because it shows that children who are overweight are, in fact, willing and able to make positive changes in their diets to improve their body weight and overall health.

This article is about how the No Child Left Behind Act is hurting the social studies departments in schools. The social studies teachers are not teaching as well as they should because they are more worried about getting kids up to par on their test scores. They are teaching ways to pass a test in stead of teaching the cirriculum. This is causing kids to not have as good of an education as they should. This is a good article if you are researching the no child left behind act

Mandell and Lewis explain that young adults possess insufficient knowledge when it comes to the world of personal finance. This assertion is not new and many researchers have come to a similar conclusion, but the two authors believe young adults in other countries such as Japan and Australia lack financial literacy. Their study focused on whether teenagers lack of motivation inhibited their assimilation of information during finance classes. the researchers believe teens just don't believe financial literacy is important. Their study included five national surveys, with results broken down by different demographics such as sex, race and family income.

This study can be beneficial to my research. One of the purposes of this study was to examine the preferences of college students when given crackers with 2 different kinds of cream cheese, being high-fat and low-fat, spread on it. The results were not shocking, as students favored the taste of the high-fat cream cheese over the low-fat cream cheese. I could use these findings to support my research in that taste plays an important factor in food selection.

I found this study to be extremely valuable to my research. This study examined the effects of high or low stress levels on men and women in their choice of healthy or unhealthy snacking. Results showed that stress levels do, in fact, effect human decision of food choice. Stressful men chose healthier snacks than when they were not stressed, but conversely, stressful women chose unhealthier snacks than when they were not stressed. This factor is extremely beneficial to my research as it may provide an explanation as to why humans make the food choices they do.

This study represents a grounded theory investigation of how motivation and self-perceptions influence students' emotions, cognitions, and behaviors by focusing on student-athletes, individuals who may experience conflicting sets of motivation and self issues. From observing and interviewing nine student-athletes at a Research 1 university, we developed a process model relating themes to the students' experiences.

These authors discuss a few studies of how the UK's national academic sector services and projects are affected by different search engines. It discusses the first search engine for the volunteers and explains how many of them start with the same search engine. It describes the common uses of internet search engines, whether it be for hours or for just minutes. They followed the search with a questionnaire that asked the volunteers the ease of their research and the reliability of their findings. Hence, this article describes both how easy it is to use Google and how reliable the findings are; however, it studies students just in the UK.

The authors Cartledge and Lo explain the discipline problems teacher's deal with in Urban Schools. Many factors influence children in urban school districts to act up in the classroom. They conducted a research program where they selected school H, which consisted of low-income students that were not reaching academic standards. The program recorded the number of disciplinary actions teachers took towards the students. The results showed that more than 50% of students received discipline in one year of teaching, which takes away from their education time. The authors make some significant points, but more can be determined from this study. By looking at the study, people can infer that because of the high disciplinary problems in urban schools that it affects their academics. This can be because of their lives at home and what students go through with their families.

These authors studied a number of popular search engines, including Google, to discover if they can find librarian acceptable information. In order to do this they entered in several key words and looked at the first one hundred results. Once completing these tests the authors discovered what percent of each search engine was librarian acceptable. It also lists the total number of results of each search engines. These authors' research gives a representation of the reliability of a number of search engines including Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

This study includes research concerning two control groups in order to determine the factors that lead to the infamous Freshman 15. Of 133 participants they mapped out their diets and their physical activity over a yearlong experiment.

This research was conducted between 12 young obese male students. A series of mental tests as well as a physical abilities test was administered and results were compared to those of healthy-weighted boys of the same age. Results showed no difference between mental tests of obese and normal boys, however the Wisconsin card sorting test demonstrated that obese boys had more difficulty as the test involved continuous shifting of the body. I do not find this study beneficial to my research. It provides factual information, but I feel that it could only serve to demonstrate how obesity can cause negative effects within young children.

Kwate's research primarily served to analyze the density of fast-food restaurants in New York City with a focus on the correlations of race and economic status or income on restaurant density. This research is especially beneficial to me because the data from this source is from the perspective of a United States major city. Results from this study showed that there were more restaurants in black areas than there were in white areas. Also economic status or income of the population did not seem to have a correlation with fast-food restaurant density.

Morland's research was conducted over a 6 month span in 2003. Telephone surveys were used to call random telephone numbers in the phonebook in the states of North Carolina and Mississippi. These telephone surveys asked the recipients for their address, gender, height and body weight. The height and body weight was used to calculate for obesity. This study is especially useful to my research because it analyzes the addresses of the survey recipients and compares them to the concentration of fast food restaurants in that area. The important information I could use is that the more concentrated the fast food restaurants were, the more obesity was found within that area.

The teaching of such a controversial social issue as evolution in the classroom presents difficulties to instructors, both on personal and professional levels. Griffith and Brem examined fifteen Arizona biology teachers, pulling their experiences from focus groups, interviews, and surveys. The study contains a great deal of anecdotal information dealing with both internal and external influences on instructors' teaching methods. This research investigates a whole new realm of the issue as it pertains to literacy by looking directly at those who control the flow of information and those who influence it. However, the researchers make little conclusive headway, suggesting simply that instructors should be made more comfortable with the topic by having access to better information and resources. Ultimately, the personal experiences are telling of the political climate and social stressors.

This article explains the effects of marijuana and how its effects both men and women. Marijuana seems to effect men and women differently and tends to have long term addicting effects. Also it explains the effects of marijuana during sex and other effects it has on people in certain situations. With these in mind they conduct a study that entail the negative and positive effects of marijuana. This is a helpful article because it helps me better understand the different effects marijuana has on curtain people. With this in mind I know how I can use it in my research paper. Furthermore this information can help me better understand marijuana and its effects on men and women in different situations. To help me understand the statistical aspect of this research I can use it to comprehend the uses and abuses of marijuana

This article is about how the former Justice Sandra Day O'Connor thinks the civics program in the education system should be changed. She talks about creating a web-based program to help teach the kids civics lessons that they will be more interested in. She also talks a little on how the No child left behind act ruined the social studies education for children. This is helpful if you are researching the no child left behind act or anything on civics education.

This is basically a social network analysis of how smoking effects friendships. weather it streanghtens them or weekens them. this is cool becauce i once did smoke and 3 of the poeple in the comminty i am studying smoke as well. I thoguht this was potentially a direction a could take my research in.

Rolls conducted a unique experiment to test the effect of varying plate sizes on the amount of energy consumed within the chosen servings. This experiment was conducted in a laboratory setting over the course of 2-3 weeks. It was found that there was not a correlation between plate size and the amount of energy consumed. Results did show that overall, men consumed more than women. This study is beneficial to my research because it analyzes the unique factor of plate size and how it relates to food consumption.
