The Convenience Food Market in Great Britain: Convenience Food Lifestle (CFL) Segments - 0 views

  •
Buckley's investigation of consumer choices regarding convenience foods was conducted in Great Britain in 2002. His study included grocery store customers completing a questionnaire that consisted of quantitative response options. The results of this research help the food industry understand the reasons why people make choices for convenience foods. Interestingly, an increase in overall salaries of people in Great Britain have led to more people dining out. The main reason for people choosing convenience foods over healthy foods was found to be a combination of time saving tactics when purchasing foods in the grocery store.

This article talks about binge drinking and alcohol use and its effects on students. They describe how binge drinkers are more likely to smoke cigarettes and engage in marijuana, cocaine and other illicit drug use. Also this article talks about alcohol use and its negative effects on students and its effect on rapes, suicides and motor vehicle accidents. This article also explains the correlation between alcohol and drug use and abuse. With this in mind these effects with help me better understand alcohol abuse. This is great insight on negative effect of alcohol. There are the negative effects of marijuana but compared to the impaired non judgmental effects of alcohol the two do not compare. This is a great article because it helps me better understand the correlation between these drugs. Also it gives me more statistical information on how I should present facts and numbers.

Adolescent Religiosity and School Contexts - 0 views

  •
Adolescence is a period of great intellectual development that holds a lasting, lifelong influence. The authors examine the degree to which a school's religious affiliation and contextual teaching influence the development of adolescent belief systems and attitudes. The researchers find that the religious tenor of the school is incredibly influential in shaping student worldviews. Because religion and science are often viewed as diametrically opposed, I'd like to take this data a little further and ask, to what degree does this trend impede or facilitate scientific literacy?

This article discusses the great impact that self-concepts have on students' grades and performance, mainly in English and mathematics. These authors found different results than have previously been found in tests; they found that "there were significant positive paths from math self-concepts to subsequent math outcomes but not to subsequent English outcomes." Also, they found that girls had higher English and math grades but lower math self-concepts then boys, these results differ from previous test which claimed that the gender difference was diminishing. These results were interesting due to their difference in regards to other tests conducted.

Teaching Evolutionary Biology: Pressures, Stress, and Coping - 0 views

  •
The teaching of such a controversial social issue as evolution in the classroom presents difficulties to instructors, both on personal and professional levels. Griffith and Brem examined fifteen Arizona biology teachers, pulling their experiences from focus groups, interviews, and surveys. The study contains a great deal of anecdotal information dealing with both internal and external influences on instructors' teaching methods. This research investigates a whole new realm of the issue as it pertains to literacy by looking directly at those who control the flow of information and those who influence it. However, the researchers make little conclusive headway, suggesting simply that instructors should be made more comfortable with the topic by having access to better information and resources. Ultimately, the personal experiences are telling of the political climate and social stressors.

EBSCOhost: Improving the Education of Children Living in Poverty - 0 views

  •
Murnane focuses on the children living in poverty and the low performance of the students. His goal is to make the No Child Left Behind Act more realistic. The goal should be to concentrate on the children's growth as a student, not to reach an obtainable test score. The government needs to improve conditions of schools of children living in poverty. The author suggests that the poverty stricken schools need to strengthen their staff in order to change anything. The main goal of children living in poverty is to get them to graduate from high school. The rate of kids graduating from high school in low income schools is down a great deal of percent than suburban schools. Murnane gives his opinion of setting obtainable goals not only for middle class students, but students that come from a poverty stricken area.

This is the actual bill that shows what the deal is with the bill itself. This was present to the California supreme court. This is great for my research because this is an actual bill. This helps with the support and maybe legalization my marijuana. This evidence can be used to show the reader what some states may adapt to their own bills and laws similar to California's bill.

"Legalize It. (Cover story)." - 0 views

Legalization of marijuana and in some cases other drugs can be a benefit to America economically and socially. There is a push to legalize marijuana to keep money out of criminals hands. Also legalization of marijuana/ drugs can help Americas defense against sovereign and international crime. Many illegal organizations around the world feed off American drugs policies earning billions of dollars for their criminal enterprises. Drug cartels and terrorist organizations use drugs to fund their operations. The article is a great reason for legalization of marijuana/ drugs. The terrorists we are fighting are feeding off the people we are trying to defend. The whole system is flawed and if America continues to fight a battle against this foreign enemy we will never win the war on terrorists.

The role of digital logic in the computer science curriculum - 0 views

  •
This is a panel discussion in the Journal of Computing Sciences in Colleges that questions the importance of digital logic for the future of computer science. The discussion is composed of different individuals from different universities who share their own view concerning the foundation of the digital computer. This is a good example of a discussion warning against a great degree of abstraction between the underlying hardware and the high-level developer. The fact is that everything in computer science is built upon the fundamentals of digital logic and without an understanding of this logic, the connection between theory and practice is lost.

The Power of Speech - 0 views

  •
A film on OhioLINK. Could be useful for students analyzing the rhetoric of politics. As Maya Angelou points out in The Power of Speech, "If the words and delivery are powerful, they echo down the centuries." To emphasize the point, Angelou and other writers and orators examine the moving oratory of 14th-century tax protester John Ball, 19th-century slave Sojourner Truth, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Each speaker's technique is examined within the context of why the speech is being delivered, and to whom. Examples of how great orators throughout history have used their skills for good and evil drive home the immense power of the spoken word. A BBC Production. (30 minutes)
