This article presents survey results on the support of Nevada residents support the legalization of marijuana. A large percentage of people opposing the legalization but many still don't support. There are fierce debates over the issue in the state of Nevada. This gives me more support for the legalization of marijuana in states throughout the US. Nevada is another state that can support the legalization of marijuana throughout the US. The gives clear cut support in my essay and show that throughout the US states are ratifying laws to accommodate legalization of marijuana.

In this prospective study home literacy is considered a multifaceted phenomenon consisting of a frequency or exposure facet (opportunity), an instruction quality facet, a parent-child cooperation facet, and a social-emotional quality facet. In a multiethnic, partly bilingual sample of 89 families with 4-year-old children, living in inner-city areas in the Netherlands, measures of home literacy were taken by means of interviews with the parents and observations of parent-child book reading interactions when the target children were ages 4, 5, and 6 years. At age 7, by the end of Grade 1, after nearly 1 year of formal reading instruction, vocabulary, word decoding, and reading comprehension were assessed using standard tests. Vocabulary at age 4 and an index of the predominant language used at home were also measured in order to be used as covariates. Correlational and multiple regression analyses supported the hypothesis that home literacy is multifaceted. Home literacy facets together predicted more variance in language and achievement measures at age 7 than each of them separately. Structural equations analysis also supported two additional hypotheses of the present research. First, the effects of background factors (SES, ethnicity, parents' own literacy practices) on language development and reading achievement in school were fully mediated by home literacy, home language, and early vocabulary. Second, even after controlling for the effects of early vocabulary and predominant home language, there remained statistically significant effects of home literacy, in particular, opportunity, instruction quality, and cooperation quality. There is also some statistical information that accesses they amount and number of college students that use or have used marijuana. This is a very supportive article because it give me some insight on the risk of marijuana and marijuana related problems. There is some good statistical information relating to the 292 college students. The stats state that 46% of college students have claimed to have smoked marijuana. With this article it can help support some of my statistical information from my survey I have put out.

This article does not address media coverage of politics but addresses media coverage of women and men in television shows. Women are often portrayed doing jobs such as childcare, nurse, household chores, and teachers while men are seen as doctors, lawyers, and the dominators of the family. Although this is changing, it still plays a significant role in most television shows. Women do not only struggle with gender roles on television but often male writers dominate female writers in the film industry. By using a different example of literacy in my paper, it will show how women are betrayed in the media besides political media. This is important to use as support for my main points in the paper. I can relate gender bias both in politics and in television to show people how this is just not happening in one area of the public media.

Semali describes literacy and the teaching of literacy. Semali states that many people are subconsciously gender bias because of things they see. For example, in advertising, a women cleaning the house instead of a man may help support a more gender bias role. Every part of the media has some sort of bias if it does not seem obvious or relevant. This article is relevant to my research because although it is not directly related to politics, it shows how the media can influence people easily. The media is the key reason why a politician wins an election. If the media can control gender bias, then it is more likely to affect other people. The media can control how people are perceived and in this case, men and women.

This study can be beneficial to my research. One of the purposes of this study was to examine the preferences of college students when given crackers with 2 different kinds of cream cheese, being high-fat and low-fat, spread on it. The results were not shocking, as students favored the taste of the high-fat cream cheese over the low-fat cream cheese. I could use these findings to support my research in that taste plays an important factor in food selection.

We sought to determine whether literacy mediates the relationship between education and glycemic control among diabetes patients. Methods: We measured educational attainment, literacy using the Short Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults (s-TOFHLA), and glycemic control (HbA1c) in 395 diabetes patients at a U.S. public hospital. We performed path analysis to compare two competing models to explain glycemic control. The direct effects model estimated how education was related to HbA1c; the mediational model estimated the strength of the direct relationship when the additional pathway from education to literacy to HbA1c was added. Results: Both the model with a direct effect of education on HbA1c and the model with literacy as a mediator were supported by good fit to observed data. The mediational model, however, was a significant improvement, with the additional path from literacy to HbA1c reducing the discrepancy from observed data (p<0.01). After including this path, the direct relationship between education and HbA1c fell to a non-significant threshold. Conclusions: In a low-income population with diabetes, literacy mediated the relationship between education and glycemic control. They point out how in the years that Oprah talked about her book club weekly on her show; all of the books were on America's top 150! This is a huge point to support my claim of influence that Oprah has over us. This article was extremely helpful also because there were a lot of graphs that showed the huge relationship between Oprah's announcement and ranking of book. The article gives many more stats and examples of influence and will be very useful to me in my paper.

People refute that legalization of marijuana will help socially and economically but they are wrong. This articles gives me strong support on the benefits of legalization of marijuana.
