Vitamin C and survival among women with breast cancer: A Meta-analysis - 0 views

  •
Meta-analysis finds that for every oral daily intake of 100 mg vitamin C, the risk of total mortality was decreased by 27% and the breast cancer specific mortality was decreased by 22%.  A lot of potential variables that can play into this equation.  However, oral vitamin C is poorly bioavailable, yet according to this meta-analysis, does provide significant health benefits and even prevention.  If health and breast cancer prevention is a goal, then vitamin C needs to play a role in your daily intake.

Metabolic syndrome, circulating RBP4, testosterone, and SHBG predict weight regain at 6... - 0 views

  •
Interesting study finds that men with low serum Total Testosterone, elevated RBP4 and low SHBG at baseline predict weight regain.  Thus Testosterone should be used as a biomarker of failure in weight loss and if low, Testosterone therapy should be employed to improved metabolic function.  Other parameters, such as leptin, adiponectin, prolactin, progesterone...were not predictive.

Androgen deprivation therapy leads to insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and type II diabetes in men. Testosterone therapy in men with IR, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and type II Diabetes will result in improved cardiovascular risk.

Low Serum Testosterone inversely associated metabolic syndrome in men.  This study was conducted in the Ikaria islands.  No association was found with women and Testosterone.  In men, Testosterone was inversely associated with waist circumference, hs-CRP, insulin, and HDL.

Abstract presented finds that Testosterone IM undecanoate significantly reduced metabolic syndrome parameters in men.  This study looked at men with secondary hypogonadism and late onset.  The ages were from 15-72.  The full is not available as of this post.  The study only looked at serum T.  This limits the usefulness of this test.  According to this abstract, no evaluation of SHBG was performed.  Though not significant, PSA and prostate volume increased.

This study finds an association between low SHBG and increased metabolic syndrome in obese women with PCOS.  Testosterone was not associated.  Other studies have shown a positive association between Testosterone and MetS in women.  This follows men in that SHBG shows an association with MetS.  Only the abstract is present here, so I can't look at the data presented.

Metabolic syndrome as a prognostic factor for breast cancer recurrences - Pasanisi - 20... - 0 views

  •
Women with metabolic syndrome have increased recurrence of breast cancer after initial therapy.  Likewise, Increasing Testosterone was associated with increasing risk of metabolic syndrome.  This is the opposite of men.  One wonders what this massive doping of Testosterone that is underway is doing to women?  Are we merely feeding disease?

Neurobehavioural effects of developmental toxicity : The Lancet Neurology - 0 views

  •
new study out of the Lancet labels Flouride as neurotoxicant, along with lead, methyl mercury, PCBs, arsenic, toluene and others.   This is not a political issue and needs to be reviewed scientifically.  These toxicants impair neurodevelopment and may be one reason for the rapidly rising conditions associated: i.e. ADD, ADHD, autism...

Women with elevated androgens, Testosterone and androstenedione, are at higher risk of preeclampsia.  This translates to a higher risk of CVD in women later in life, post pregnancy.  This fits with other literature that CVD is linearly associated with a rising Testosterone.  This has been found in caucasian and black women.

Harriet Lane Handbook: Progesterone regulates the phosphorylation of protein phosphatas... - 0 views

  •
rat model finds that progesterone effects internal cell enzyme activity.  In this case, progesterone increased PP2A in the cerebellum and in the hyippocampus.  Interesting, that E2 priming decreased the effects on the hippocampus, but not the cerebellum.  This reveals a biochemical link between sex hormones, progesterone in this case, and the brain.  Studies have shown progesterone to be neuroprotective in TBI.  This may be one mechanism.

Differences in how mitochondria in men and women handle oxidative stress.  This gives insight to how sex hormones can play a role in neurodegeneration: whether protective or destructive.

Scary stat--75% of samples from air and rainfall taken in delta contaminated with glyphosate and its metabolite AMPA.  These levels were not measured in 1995 so % increase is unable to be determined.  We do know that roundup use has increased dramatically over that time frame.

Vitamin D supplementation finds no increased risk on breast cancer risk.  This is a negative study (meta-analysis) on vitamin D and breast cancer in postmenopausal women.  The strength of evidence lies with positive effects as numerous studies are documented in diigo here.

Vitamin D has key impact in performance of soldiers.  low vitamin D has been shown to be associated with increased risk for muscle/bone injury, weakness, and poor healing.  Low vitamin D has been associated with low Testosterone.  Low vitamin D has also been associated with poor cognition, depression and less than optimal recovery after TBI.  This follows recent publication that normalization of vitamin D levels increases Testosterone levels.

  •
prospective study of almost 9,000 men and women followed for 30 + years.  The study found that there was a significant increased risk of early death after diagnosis of cancer with higher levels of Testosterone.  The risk was increased by up to 80%.  The incidence of cancer was unchanged.  The study looked at total Testosterone via serum.  The study is limited due to its limited look at hormones.  Full Testosterone metabolism needs to be evaluated--including conversion to estrogens.  Inflammatory cytokines need to be assessed and men and women need to be assessed separately as their reactions to hormones are quite different.
