Testosterone and cardiova... [Curr Opin Endocrinol Diabetes Obes. 2014] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Review of recent articles suggest increased risk of cardiovascular disease in men. The issue at hand is the cause is not being treated and thus the Testosterone is fuel on the metabolic fire and the doping dose that most men receive.

Viagra associated with a 84% increased risk of melanoma.  The key word here is associated.  No cause and effect relationship is seen.  Anytime use was also associated with increased risk.  This study did not look at the other phopsphodiesterase 5 inhibitors, though the logic is there risk may be higher as they are longer acting.

This is the public announcement of a article yet to be published.  The study, yet unread, points to increase damage to brain health in those caucasian men with oxidative stress.  This was not found in mexican-Americans.  Until I read this study, that is all I will say here.

A large body of evidence exists to associate low vitamin D with cardiovascular disease.  However, this review finds no causal relationship.  Is vitamin D an indicator of poor health?  Or is it the cause of poor health.  Yet to be determined.  Is vitamin D safe? Yes.

meta-analysis found no high level of evidence to support Huperzine A in the treatment of vascular dementia.  The conclusion sounds scientifically sound, but when you look at the studies included: this is a meta-analysis of 1 of Huperzine A and vascular dementia.  This one study was of 14 participants only and they found improvement in daily functioning.   There are a lot of animal studies that point out benefits of huperzine A and even the mechanisms of action,  but human studies are lacking.  That is a better conclusion.

Ginsenoside Rg3 Alleviates Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Learning and Memory Impairments b... - 0 views

  •
Rat model induced inflammatory reaction in brain via LPS injection.  The result was impaired memory.  RG3 from panax ginseng was shown to reduce inflammation, TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, cox-2, thus improving memory and cognitive function.

interesting rat study.  EDTA, common chelation therapy of choice for lead (Pb), decreased antioxidant activity and increase lipid per oxidation.  This was inhibited by garlic and RG3.

RG3, an extract from panax ginseng, found to protect against the neurotoxin acrylamide.   Also of interest, is that serotonin, corticosterone, T3, T4, estradiol, progesterone and epinephrine were all decreased in this acrylamide rat model.

study looked at androgen deprivation therapy in non-metastatic prostate cancer.  This study found that the elimination of ADR post 5 years was associated with low recurrence.  Relapse of increased PSA was associated with increasing Testosterone off of ADR.  This study did not look at estrogens or androgen metabolites.  Too short sided in its design.

Low Testosterone at Time of Transplant Is Independent... [J Urol. 2014] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
More and more, low Testosterone is clearly a marker of poor health in men.  This study finds that low T at the time of renal transplant is associated with increase graft rejection/loss and patient death.  It appears to me that Testosterone levels should be a part of assessment for any man in poor health and/or headed for surgery.

  •
low Testosterone associated with increased inflammatory cytokines in animal model.  The cytokines IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, Il-12, and IL-13 were specifically found to be elevated.  Translated, in animal model, low T equals increased inflammation.
