I found this Hub about advocating for a group call "ASAP", (Ask a Sexual Advocacy Professional). Their intention is to have a "go to" place for advice or help for health care providers and/or anyone needing help getting their sexual needs met.

This is a Fact sheet from the AOTA on UE therapy and an overview of the frameworks of reference that should be adhered to by the occupational therapist in treatment. It even list areas of intervention involving such injuries that I had never considered.

A nice compact list of ways to protect your joints. The list comes with examples and extra information that is helpful to the practitioner and the client. This is relevant to those with joint pain and those who want to prevent joint pain.

This article is very technical at times, but describes therapeutic ultrasound and its use nicely. It describes thermal and nonthermal effects and which form is used when. There are different reasons to use each like pain, stretching collagen, or to increase blood flow. What was really interesting was the use of ultrasound to facilitate the delivery of medication administered on the skin. Precautions and contraindications were included.

This articles gives the importance of early intervention with children with disabilities, and also talks about the children that need intervention and cannot recieve it. If you dont have a topic for advocacy letter this may be good idea.

This is an article about i-limbs which is a type of prosthestic design. It shows the different types of amputees, how they put the device together and how OT is involved. It even tells some patients goals and how the OT helps them reach their goals.

This web site contains a wide range of information concerning the rotator cuff. It explains the elements of the rotator cuff, conditions of the rotator, ways to test for it, and treatments.

This is a short article that discusses rheumatoid arthritis and its affect on kidneys. It provides suggestions on how to keep your kidneys healthy and has a warning list for signs of kidney damage.

This a great example of a Syme amputation. This kid is a real go getter and does not let his amputation get in the way of his dreams.

this website is a great resource for anything shoulder related. Dr. Luks, MD provides answers to frequently asked questions and provides pictures and short video explanations for a few. If you click on the shoulder & elbow hyperlink you can find related info on shoulder dislocations, labrum tears, and rotator cuff injuries

I like to share this webpage because it is very easy to read and has a lot of knowledgeable information. The interesting fact I learned for myself that Rotator Cuff Injuries are likely to happen in people after 40 years old, so I may seriously think about what I can do to prevent it happen to me. The website has a figure of the person on which you can point and it will take you to different syndromes of the body. The website explain in details definitions, causes, symptoms, treatments, preventions, recovery time and problems that can occur during the rehabilitation time. I thought it was very helpful.

This was a great article about a woman who is an OT and her insight to working with people with UE Amputations. The article had great information about what OT is all about and how she and her team helps those with UE amputations.

I realize we are a few weeks past this, but I found this in an e-mail from this summer and thought the information could be useful.

This is an article from the AOTA's website on sex and OT's role. It describes what OT does for a client. It breaks down different categories such as health promotion, remediation, and modification. It describes certain interventions, and answers some of those questions that some of us might feel uneasy asking about.

This is an article from the aota page on OT involvement in sexuality. It has a good section on OT interventions.

This was interesting for me as I had typed many of these surgeries and knew the words, but had never seen it performed. It would probably be a good visual idea of what our patients have been through in order to better treat and sympathize with them.

Awesome TEDtalk by Todd Kuiken about Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (the future of UE prothesis). This is a much watch video about the future of UE prosthesis. Targeted Muscle Reinnervation is an intuitive way to use hand and elbow prothesis with your thoughts. This is a better way to control your arm and grasp patterns. And hopefully in the future this technology will allow its users to 'feel' sensations in their prosthetic hand. Amanda, the patient talks about how the most important thing to her in working with children was the ability to clap again. Great video! Very informative.

This is the amputee coalition website. What an amazing resource for patients, families, and therapist. This website provides current research, peer support, and even has detailed discussion about how to deal with phantom pain. Great website and resource!

This website lists OT interventions related to rheumatoid arthritis such as joint protection, range of motion, maintaining muscle strength, and avoiding stresses that can damage joints. It also lists the optimal lying, seated and standing positions as well as taking care of the hands.

This is the Hanger website. I wanted to share it after listening to today's guest speakers. It provides information on patient care and products/services they provide. Interesting to read about their charitable contributions, community involvement and other programs such as scholarships.
