This was a very interesting article I read regarding a mind controlled bionic leg. The article is from 2013. It stated that there has been mind controlled bionic arms available for a while now. To date, only one man is testing the mind controlled bionic leg. He says he can walk, go up steps, etc just by thinking about the action taken. There is a very short video of him walking with it. Pretty amazing!

This may be old news from almost a year ago, but i found this on the Vanderbilt website about how Dr. Michael Goldfarb has been working on robotic legs that emulates healthy limbs. It explains his research and his building of these legs. I found in the article that Dr. Goldfarb was also named one of the top 10 innovators who changed the world in 2013 for developing an exoskeleton that allows paraplegics to stand up and walk.

About a year ago, Zac Vawter climbed all 103 flights of stairs of the Willis Tower in Chicago. On its own, this accomplishment would be pretty unremarkable, but Vawter, who lost his leg four years ago during a motorcycle accident, happened climb more than 2,000 steps while wearing a prosthetic leg.. This is so awesome! I love searching to see where the future of prosthetics is going.

I hope everyone has a chance to watch this video of Zac Vawter. It's really amazing to see how far technology is advancing for individuals with amputations.

This article was an eye opener for me regarding the hazards of sitting too long and not using proper sitting techniques. I now know now why I have mushy abs and limp glutes! I sit for hours at my computer without taking a break, resting or stretching. I also do not sit in an ergonomic position while at my desk. From this article I gained a great deal of information about how sitting too long can contribute to heart disease, over-productive pancreas, colon cancer, poor circulation in legs, foggy brain, bad back, strained neck, disk damage, mushy abs and limp glutes, just to name a few. It was really surprising to learn how just from sitting too long can create havoc on your organs, muscles and your whole body. Gives you something to think about!

I should put my laptop on the bar and use it standing up once in awhile!

This is an amazing story. It seems odd to think that people would have more of their leg removed in order to have a better prosthesis. But this woman's leg looks so amazingly real to me.

"Hang on, I'm between heights right now," Scott Rigsby jokes as he transitions from his walking legs to his cycling legs for his part of a relay at the Events DC Nation's Triathlon on Sunday. Rigsby is the first double amputee using prosthetics to complete the Ironman World Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

This a great example of a Syme amputation. This kid is a real go getter and does not let his amputation get in the way of his dreams.

This address should take you to the "Amputee OT" video. Please let me know if it doesn't. An OT that is also an amputee narrates and demonstrates how a prosthetic running leg is made. It is amazing how much precision and details are used to get the best fit for a running prosthesis.

This is a story of a little girl that touched my heart as I read and looked at the pictures. The story has part 1 and part 2 with pictures of her as she underwent treatment for bone cancer. Kaela ends up with an amputation and a prosthetic leg. Brave little girl with a happy ending after all.

This video is short and sweet to the point! It is hard to recognize on one's self if they are using the correct body mechanics when lifting heavy objects, but this video shows what your body should look like. This information is great for at work, or for at home with IADLs/ADLs.

Some good tips I hadn't thought about before, such as tightening the butt and abs before lifting with the legs. Funny how I've been paying more attention to my own body mechanics around the house.
