Creative Commons Thing of the Day - 2 views

  •
Josh Woodward is one of the most prolific musicians in the Creative Commons community. His songs have been downloaded six and a half million times. His songs are all licensed under CC's most open license for maximum sharing, commercial or noncommercial. And he presents instrumental and lyrical mixes for most of his songs, allowing for easy reuse in video.

For fun -- and to demonstrate the power of the creative commons -- CC has created a new Tumblr that features random content from artists using creative commons licensing. Each day features a new "thing," putting subscribers (via email or bookmark) and artists in contact.

Deep Web - 3 views

  •
I think that as more information we have about the deep web, much more knowledge we will have to really know that is really going on in the cyber space. Deep Web (also called the Deepnet, Invisible Web, or Hidden Web) is World Wide Web content that is not part of the Surface Web, which is indexed by standard search engines.

---- Many say that the "deep web" sites with objectionable content exist, care should be taken, although there are projects like https://www.torproject.org/ that allow us to navigate the deep network without having to suffer risks (http: //www.cnnexpansion.com/economia/2014/06/27/como-opera-the-deep-web-en-mexico), better safe.

Keren Elazari: Hackers: the Internet's immune system - 1 views

  •
This 17-minute video puts hackers into some interesting perspectives as Keren Elazari explains why we will need hackers more than we do right now in the era of information. And what I love is that this presentation is executed in an easy and straightforward way for beginners like me to get some new notions, just as any other TEDtalk

Together we are stronger: charities join forces to support open access (UK) - 2 views

  •
A great news, especially for the "immediately" aspect! "A consortium of six leading UK medical research charities will support the costs of making research articles from their funded research immediately and freely openly available to scientists, patients, and donors alike, through the recently announced joint Charity Open Access Fund."

About ds106 - 2 views

  •
From the site: "Digital Storytelling (also affectionately known as ds106) is an open, online course that happens at various times throughout the year at the University of Mary Washington... but you can join in whenever you like and leave whenever you need." I took part in the open ds106 course for a while. I am impressed that it keeps going and morphing over time. The dedication to openness - both the the tools used and the content being produced by the participants - is also impressive. Concepts taught in this course included remix, reuse and re-share are core to the concepts of OER and open knowledge.

Should Science Always be OPEN? - 1 views

A poster that explores "the balance between benefits and concerns in relation to openness to knowledge and data. We will showcase the current impact potential of open science and open innovation, while considering intellectual property, the right for commercial exploitation of innovative concepts and the need for privacy legislation preventing misuse of personal data."

I have found some interesting research publications on this site, in particular to MOOCs. Leading Social Science Research Delivered Daily Social Science Research Network (SSRN) is devoted to the rapid worldwide dissemination of social science research and is composed of a number of specialized research networks in each of the social sciences. Each of SSRN's networks encourages the early distribution of research results by distributing Submitted abstracts and by soliciting abstracts of top quality research papers around the world. We now have hundreds of journals, publishers, and institutions in Partners in Publishing that provide working papers for distribution through SSRN's eLibrary and abstracts for publication in SSRN's electronic journals. The SSRN eLibrary consists of two parts: an Abstract Database containing abstracts on over 563,000 scholarly working papers and forthcoming papers and an Electronic Paper Collection currently containing over 465,300 downloadable full text documents in Adobe Acrobat pdf format. The eLibrary also includes the research papers of a number of Fee Based Partner Publications. The Networks encourage readers to communicate directly with authors and other subscribers concerning their own and others' research. To facilitate this we publish detailed author contact information including email addresses for authors of each paper.
