The Global Health Research Innovation Center (GHRIC) is pleased to announce a call for proposals for faculty research grants. These grants are designed to foster the development of research initiatives and partnership projects in Global health. Grants will be made to Miami faculty to undertake small-scale, collaborative pilot research projects in Global health and/or travel (of Miami faculty or domestic/international collaborators) to cultivate research relationships through establishing institutional linkages and jointly developing or writing research proposals. The expectation is that at least one outcome of each project will be the submission of an external grant proposal. Proposed projects must involve at least two Miami faculty members from different departments. Budgets are expected to be between $4000-$8000. We expect to award at least 2 grants for the 2016-2017 academic year. If funded, additional funding of up to $1000 may be available to help support presentation of the proposed project at either the annual conference of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health or the Global Health and Innovation Conference (Unite for Sight).

DOJ’s Global Justice Information Sharing Initiative (Global) is designed to engage the full range of criminal justice policymakers and practitioners in the development of innovative strategies to improve the justice information sharing (JIS) and technology capabilities of state, local and tribal agencies. In order to be effective, Global’s approach requires training and technical assistance (TTA) to adequately engage stakeholders; facilitate working groups and task teams; develop products and publications; and offer implementation support to the field. The FY 2018 Global solicitation is designed to enhance Global’s ability to achieve its goals through the provision of TTA support.

By participating in the Global Learning Fellowship program, educators have an opportunity to lead the profession by acquiring the skills needed to integrate Global competence into their daily classroom instruction, advance pedagogy in their school/district, prepare students to thrive in a "flattened" Global age, and contribute to the closing of the Global achievement gap.

This project will: 1. Enhance and strengthen ongoing regional cooperation related to the creation of a shared surveillance information platform. 2. Contribute to efficiencies the small Central American countries are seeking to improve laboratory capacity by creating networks of reference laboratories. 3. Develop and implement regional guidelines for biosafety, as well as other guidelines that are appropriately developed regionally. It will strengthen the network of epidemiologists and regional epidemiological training. 4. Strengthen regional communication and the capacity of the countries of the region to respond in a coordinated manner to epidemiological and public health threats. This program addresses the issues of Health Communication; Immunization and Infectious Diseases; Public Health Infrastructure; Respiratory Diseases; and Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and is in alignment with HHS/CDC performance goal(s) to protect Americans from infectious diseases by providing global health promotion, health protection and health diplomacy. Measurable outcomes of the program will be in alignment with one (or more) of the following performance goal(s) the Center for global Health’s priority areas identified in "Protecting the Nation’s Health in an Era of globalization: CDC’s global Strategy for Addressing Infectious Diseases". Priority areas for this cooperative agreement include: 1) implementation of proven disease prevention and control interventions, 2) application of proven public health tools, 3) identification of potential global initiatives for disease control and, 4)public health training and capacity building.

A. Noam Chomsky Global Connections Awards celebrate the power of human connections. The awards recognize distinguished service to the Global mission of the STAR Scholars Network. Several individuals with a deep impact on advancing Global, social mobility are recognized every year. We live in a time when innovation and creativity in support of humanity are of great importance. The Star Scholars Network recognizes the commitment of concerned people able and willing to make a difference in the lives of others. Nominations for this award are solicited from around the world. The nominee can be from any field. Beginning in 2020, the Star Scholars Network is committed to promoting transnational research, or collaborative research between scholars of two or more countries (e.g., joint publications, research partnerships, etc.). The Global Connections Awards recognize STAR Scholars for their achievements and distinctive contributions to translational research that demonstrates the very best of scholarly collaboration among scholars around the world. In December 2020, the Star Scholars Network will provide awards in three categories: North Star Medal of Lifetime Achievement, Shining Star Achievement in Research Award, Rising Star Emerging Scholar Certificate

The Food and Drug Administration announces its intention to accept and consider a single source application for award to the World Health Organization (WHO) for the Building Research Capacity in Global Tobacco Product Regulation Program. The purpose of the Program is to identify, support, develop, conduct, and coordinate research efforts relating to tobacco control laws and rules in foreign countries that will directly inform and support FDA's exercise of its authority to regulate the manufacture, distribution, marketing and sale of tobacco products in the United States. The Program will advance FDA's Center for Tobacco Products' (CTP's) mission by utilizing the World Health Organization's (WHO) Member States' expertise and extensive international contacts in Global tobacco control, as well as WHO's own programmatic expertise, to inform and support adequate manufacture, distribution and market regulations of tobacco products for the protection of public health in the United States. The Program will also provide a universal public benefit by creating opportunities for collaboration and research development Globally, thereby resulting in better-informed and effective tobacco product regulation around the world, and increased knowledge in the public sphere regarding tobacco use and its harms Globally.

Society for Research in Child Development Patrice L. Engle Dissertation Grant for Global Early Child Development The Patrice L. Engle Dissertation Grant provides support for students interested in a career in Global early child development who are from or doing research in low- or middle-income countries. The Grant includes US $5,000 to support dissertation research and a 2-year student membership to SRCD. Applicant Eligibility and Responsibility 1. Dissertation research in Global early child development with a one-year Grant for $5,000. The developmental focus of the research should include children, prenatal to 6 years of age living in low- or middle- income countries, as defined by the World Bank.  Potential topics could include (but not limited to): The effectiveness of different models of parenting support on early child development. Examination of how child care programs promote child development and family involvement. The effectiveness of 2-generation programs that provide maternal and child support. Innovative strategies to integrate programs that promote early child development with health or nutritional services for young children. Innovative strategies to integrate child development interventions with social protection services or programs to promote maternal mental health or education. Innovative strategies to involve fathers and other extended family members in early child development programs. Development of measurement strategies, indicators, and assessment tools for children and family interactions that can be implemented with reliability in low resource settings. Strategies for effective scale-up of demonstration programs.

In 2014-15, the Fung Global Fellows Program will focus on the theme "Global Diffusion." The program is currently accepting applications from international scholars developing new, innovative ways to study Global diffusion processes.

The Abe Fellowship Program encourages international multidisciplinary research on topics of pressing global concern. The program fosters the development of a new generation of researchers interested in policy-relevant topics and willing to become key members of a bilateral and global research network. In partnership with the SSRC, the Japan Foundation Center for global Partnership (CGP) established the Abe Fellowship Program as its flagship program in 1991. The Abe Fellowship Program now includes three core elements: the Abe Fellowship, the Abe Fellowship for Journalists, and the CGP-SSRC Policy Forum. Founded through the efforts of Shintaro Abe, former Japanese minister of foreign affairs, the mission of CGP is (1) to promote collaboration between Japan and the United States, with the goal of fulfilling shared global responsibilities and contributing to improvements in the world's welfare, and (2) to enhance dialogue and interchange between Japanese and US citizens on a wide range of issues, thereby improving bilateral relations.

The Global Innovation Initiative is a joint effort of the United States and the United Kingdom to strengthen Global multilateral collaboration through grants to university consortia focusing on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)-related issues of Global significance that foster cutting-edge multinational research and strengthen institutional international partnerships.

New Voices Fellowships are designed to bring more expert voices from Africa and other parts of the developing world into the global development discussion. The program, which is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, offers experts from the developing world a year-long program of media support, training, research, and writing under the guidance of experienced mentors and trainers that is designed to help them reach a broader global audience. Candidates for the twelve to fourteen fellowships awarded each year must be experts in a field related to global development, ranging from global health and food security to governance, education, and social entrepreneurship. Fellows also must be from a developing country and ideally work and live in their country of origin or another developing country.

The Council for European Studies is this year holding its 50th Anniversary meeting in Reykjavik, Iceland from the 22nd to the 24th of June 2020. The CES membership has traditionally been primarily centered around the Global North. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Council for European Studies (CES) and the World Society Foundation (WSF) are committed to engaging participants from traditionally underrepresented  communities by awarding a limited number of travel grants covering airfare and accommodation to researchers from Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The year 2020 marks a moment for reflection, given recent and ongoing changes in the boundaries of European citizenship, the fragile institutional arrangements of the European social model, the postcolonial analysis of Europe in the world, the population dynamics that define who is European, Europe's changing relationships with other regions and parts of world society, including the Global South, and the configuration of Global hegemony. 

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) seeks to build upon activities funded by CDC to support Global Health Security (GHS) through implementation of programs and activities that focus on protecting and improving health Globally through partnerships with Ministries of Health and other governmental institutions. After five years of implementing and strengthening Global health security systems, the USG will continue to advance prevent, detect, and respond strategies to mitigate threats. VentureWell, with the support from the Whitaker International Program, is implementing a new grants program, BME-IDEA International: Developing Global Connections for US-based BME Design Faculty and Students. The BME-IDEA International grants program will support collaborative project opportunities for US-based BME design students and faculty across the BME-IDEA Global network and will connect faculty members of the consortium to share resources, best practices, ideas, curriculum, knowledge, challenges, and opportunities around innovation in BME design. The two goals of the BME-IDEA International grants program are to: 1) Build strong partnerships between US-based and Global BME design and innovation programs, including exchanges of faculty, students, resources, and best practices. 2) Foster the development of US-trained leaders in BME design and innovation who understand the challenges of teaching and practice in this field around the world, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) in Africa and Latin America. Faculty Grants: Grants of up to $4,000 will be awarded to US-based faculty for Global project explorations and/or experiences to enhance their professional development and knowledge base within the field of biomedical design and innovation.  Student Grants: Grants of up to $9,000 will be awarded to student teams for the development and implementation of BME projects focused on innovation, design, and entrepreneurship.

This Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) seeks opportunities to co-create, co-design, co-invest, and collaborate in the development, testing, and scaling of innovative approaches that address critical global health challenges. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) invites organizations and companies to participate with USAID, in cooperation with its partners, in response to a global Health Challenge Addenda issued under this BAA, as described below, to provide innovative interventions and technologies that further the U.S. Government's commitment to prevent and manage critical global health challenges.

The ever-changing patterns of globally mobile populations and the incidence and prevalence of disease in these populations are important factors in monitoring, preventing, and controlling disease importation and/or spread in U.S. populations. A better understanding of the scope and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases in globally mobile populations is needed in order to improve public health practices and interventions aimed at preventing illness in refugees, immigrants, travelers and domestic populations. The purpose of this NOFO is to conduct public health research on endemic, neglected, emerging or re-emerging infectious diseases, and other conditions of public health importance, in U.S. bound refugees and other globally mobile populations, in order to promote health and prevent disease in domestic and international populations.

The U.S. government's (USG) Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) envisions a world safe and secure from Global health threats posed by infectious diseases. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is assisting the Governments Globally to meet key International Health Regulations (IHR) (2005) requirements through the implementation of the GHSA. CDC seeks to partner with the Georgian Ministry of Agriculture, through a cooperative agreement in a collaborative effort to achieve specific goals in three focus areas of the GHSA specifically: 1. workforce capacity development through FELTP, 2. the "One Health" approach through coordination and collaboration, and 3. Laboratory system strengthening. The proposals funded through the cooperative agreement will respond to Zoonotic Disease Prevention of the GHSA by supporting the Georgian National Animal Health Plan, expanding and updating a cadre of the workforce and training of public health veterinarians to work with epidemiologists and laboratorians in the context of evidence-based timely detection and response, and adapting the One Health approach with the expected outcomes of stopping the diseases in animals before they spill-over into humans and strengthening the current surveillance system.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to establish an institutional program for mentored training in global cancer research. This program will support research training led by US-based cancer research-intensive institutions working in collaboration with institutions in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). These training programs will be built upon the US institutions pre-existing training infrastructure and research collaborations with LMICs and will leverage these resources to expand the global cancer research workforce both in the US and in LMICs. The overarching goal of this grant program is to build capacity to conduct innovative and collaborative global research projects that will contribute to the advancement of basic, clinical, translational, and population-based cancer research.
