Great website for puzzles, quizzes, composition activities, instrument families and a great introduction to the NY Philharmonic.  This would be excellent to use before attending a NY Philharmonic concert. 

This is a great website for students to review concepts learned in class. "Instrument Frenzy" is a high speed game that can be used to review instruments and categorize them by family. 

A great website for students to learn about the instruments, and people of the orchestra. They also learn about composers and compositions, and are able to make their own instrument, mingles, and minuets. A great website to use for elementary students who are learning about the orchestra.

This page lends itself as yet another valuable resource, especially for those whose weakness is teaching students to play by ear. Children like games. They find it easy to play with toys, building blocks, and puppets. Children require an experience of creative play with music to enhance their understanding of musical concepts. This website's sketch pad and rhythm band games foster children's understanding of pitch, rhythm, and melody. Aural listening is a good tool for children to understand music. By listening, they get an experience of how an instrument sounds, what pitch sounds high or low, and how a melody sounds. This enhances their musicianship before they get into the details of these aspects of music.

Kahoot.com is a user-friendly free website for all educators to use in the classroom. It is fun way to interact and assess the student knowledge of content. Kahoot quizzes can be created by a user, and quizzes can be shared other users. The quizzes can be formatted differently to keep the game fun and exciting such as, which student gets the most right, or who is the first to answer. The website is free, but with an upgrade and small annual payment, there are a few more benefits to the site.

The Kidzone by the New York Philharmonic is an interactive website for children to use to learn primarily about instruments, composers, and famous musicians. It includes games, videos, audio recordings, and text. Students can interact with games that allow them to match rhythms, sort instruments into families, build an instrument, create a graphic-based composition, and match instruments and composers. There is also information about children's concerts.

This is an awesome resource that's student-friendly and focuses on instruments of the orchestra, as well as composers. It creates a strong connection between concept and real-world scenarios. The website is designed around the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. There are engaging and interactive games and lessons for students to learn about the orchestra and test their knowledge.

Very engaging and visually appealing website from the New York Philharmonic. Unfortunately many of the links would not work; however, one really cool feature is that there are recordings of symphony performances that can be viewed in a classroom. Much better quality of video than many available videos on YouTube.

An online marketplace for teachers to buy and sell classroom resources. I have found many free and low cost worksheets, visuals and even lesson plans online. Resources include worksheets for pitch, rhythm, composers, specific songs, like the Star Spangled Banner and so much more. A valuable resource for a teacher who does not want to "recreate the wheel" OR who is creative and likes to "recreate the wheel" and earn a little cash doing it!

Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT), is a great resource for lesson plans, bulletin boards, and so much more! While most resources are free, some you do have to pay for.

This would be a great source for teachers who need the documentation for certain topics. This website provides every grade level, along with every subject being provided. There are lots of information on this source for free, and there are also many sources that are not free. But it depends on what you want or need. The purpose of this sources is to give teachers a wide range of things, that they may need in their classrooms.

The Rhythm Trainer is a simple flash-based game that reinforces rhythm concepts. Students can either enter the rhythm that they hear, or choose the correct audio that matches the rhythm they see. Each example is four beats long, and there are a limited number of rhythms available. Students can select any or all of the 8 rhythms available to practice. Results can be emailed to the student's teacher.

The Rhythm trainer is another great source for helping students learn the principles of ear training. Teachers can load listening examples of varying rhythmic figures which students can respond to picking the examples they think best fit. Students can choose two modes of rhythm training which either provide them with choices for answers or require them build their answers based on the specific rhythms they are being trained on. The Rhythm Trainer does require the use Adobe Flash Player in order to play the examples but can be great for anyone teaching or learning the very basics developing good ear training skills.

This is a great tool to have to teach students rhythm. I use this to teach my private students to strengthen their ability to read rhythm. They find this website quite fun, and they enjoy all of the practices in which assign.

This is a great website called wheeldecide.com. It's one of the only "spinner" websites I've been able to find, and it works perfectly for when you've got some extra time with your younger elementary students. I just load up the songs and games they know, and I let one of the students spin the wheel and we sing and/or play whatever song/game comes up. They love it!

This robust website offers exciting educational resources for students of all ages, but especially in elementary school. Use this website to introduce instruments of the orchestra and composers. Some lesson plans and other resources are provided for teachers.

This website is great for when students are learning the instruments of the orchestra- there are games, activities, and printable worksheets. This website is great for older elementary students (3-5).

Kahoot! is an online/cloud-based program that allows users to create multiple-choice quizzes that are played on electronic devices (cell phones, iPads, etc.).

Kahoot is an awesome website where you can create quizzes for your students. You can also access kahoot quizzes made by others. Students can login from their device and play the game/quiz in your classroom. They can also login at home for practice/homework.

This is a great site for making games for students. The games can be of anything you want. I have used it to reinforce rhythms, theory, and notation. It can be used for so much more.

This is a web-based game for recorders. Students play recorder, and the sound initiates different actions in the game. It teaches breath control, rhythm, melody, fingerings, technique, and more. Students have a great time progressing through the different levels.

This is the kids' section of the New York Philharmonic. It has very informative pages about instruments and composers. It also has games for composition, and musical puzzles. You do need to download shockwave to view the content, but it's worth it.

This website is great for elementary students to reinforce the instruments and instrument families found in the orchestra. Students can listen to the sound of each instrument and watch short videos. There are great games and assessments for students to use, I highly recommend the Orchestration Station.

Easily edited to incorporate music, this is a slap vocabulary game to reinforce reading and vocabulary skills. I could use musical terms that we are studying or instruments. I could even show a picture of the instrument and the students have to find the words. I'm excited to try this.

Music K-8 is a popular site among elementary/middle school classroom music teachers. The popular magazine is full of great ideas, music, games, articles, and musical performance programs. A very useful aspect of the website is the "Idea Bank" which is located in the Resources tab. Subscribing to the idea bank list allows music teachers to instantly interact, discuss, and share with colleagues across the nation. The diverse wealth of resources available here are sure to be helpful in every kindergarten through 8th grade music class.

Fun website with several ear training and music theory based games. Good for a variety of grade levels.

This is a page on the Music Matters Blog reviewing the InTune App available on iTunes. This app operates on a game platform and has students distinguish which pitch is higher or lower. Pitches get progressively closer as the level increases.

Interactive website where students can learn about composers in the gallery, identify the sounds of the instruments in a music match game, organize the instruments by family and even create instruments with recycled materials. Students can also meet the musicians of the New York Philharmonic and hear the instrument they play.
