Free Music Games - 1 views

I'll definitely have to explore these games on my own before taking them into the classroom. So far, some of them seem pretty advanced for my students. I also am not sure about how to play many of the games because of lack of directions.

I really like the composer-related activities, especially when they related to recorder. I think that many times, students (and parents and classroom teachers) don't view the recorder as a real instrument. I think this is a great way to show them that they can play along with famous classical melodies.

Some of these music games don't seem very educational to me, but I think that they offer a variety of musical style games which could be interested for my 5th graders. I think that the zen musical composition games aren't too "babyish" (as my students would say) for the 5th grade students. However, it's something I would need to explore more.

This is a nice resource for games and interactive activities to give students information on the orchestra/orchestral instruments, composers, and the musicians in the orchestra. My students love games and they obviously love technology so I think combining these would be great. This would probably be better for a SMARTboard, rather than projecting it from a computer to the TV because the SMARTboard allows kids to get more involved.

This is a great resource for the History of American Rock/Popular music that I'm teaching. It lists all of the inductees as well as information about the artists who have been inducted. There are also lesson plans available.

Science of Music: Kitchen Sink-o-Pation: Music Activity | Exploratorium - 0 views

You can create a "stomp-like" composition with various sound clips from a kitchen. You can also create a composition using instrument sounds and "surreal objects." This could be an easy introduction to composition for the younger students. I also think this would work better for a SMARTboard.

Music Sites and Activities - 0 views

This website has a lot of websites (broken down by stage 1, 2, and 3) for students to explore creating and learning about music. The only issue I have is that many of the websites don't work anymore. However, there was at least one website in each stage that I could find useful. Another resource for smartboard.

Bulletin Boards for the Music Classroom-DOWNLOADS - 0 views

This site has a lot of powerpoints to download for instruction. Many of them are for song lyrics that could be displayed on a smartboard or TV. There are also some games and other resources. This would be great to use in the classroom instead of printing out song sheets or handing out old textbooks.

A website that offers various worksheets and games for the music classroom. There is also a section on composers. However, some of the text may be too advanced for K-5.

I use this composition to discuss instruments and instrument families with 3rd grade. Unfortunately, I haven't found something to really engage the students. I think this website might actually intrigue students into learning about the instrument.s
