This is a website that uses videos and games to teach students about jazz and instrument identification. Is definitely geared toward younger students, probably in a general music setting. However, I could see it being used with middle school jazz band students as well.

Uncle Oly and Violet go on an adventure trying to find the instruments of the orchestra and put them back together in their correct places. Students will learn about the sounds of the instruments, what family they belong to, and where they are placed in the orchestra.

The software is installed on a computer (not online/cloud), and includes a variety of games and activities which focus on general music theory. This software title is generally appropriate for elementary grades, but may have usability for other age groups too.

The American Folk Song Collection is a website that music educators can use to search for hundreds of folk songs. Each song includes a PDF of lyrics, melody, game/dance directions, song analysis, rhythms, and original source (some also include recordings). The website also includes basic information about the Kodaly approach.

The Kodaly Center website is a valuable resource for all music teachers and especially those teaching elementary general music. The website contains videos about the history and philosophy of Kodaly, as well as recent news and upcoming events being held at the center. The most impressive feature of this site is the pubic domain library of songs and the precise ways they are categorized. Songs can be searched and categorized by: Origin, region, state, subject, song type, grade level, tonal center, scale, tone set, melodic range, melodic element, melodic motive, rhythmic element, meter, form, formal analysis and game type. Once you find a song you can see all of this detailed information as well as (in most cases) listen to the song, often sung by a child or group of children.

A Great marching band game that teaches students the fundamentals of drill design. There are some setbacks as there is not music with it, but it's a fun application for students to experiment with and design shows.

This application can be used to create quizzes for students to participate in. I use kahoot for students to plug in answers for review games in my music history classes. I also use it as an anonymous ways to get polls done by the band.

Educators should find the resource they need and then print out hard copies for use in class.

This website has a lot of lesson plan ideas, theory worksheets, games, piano music and more all for free (mostly). I like to use this website if I want to find a new way to teach an old music concept.
