App, App and Away: Understanding Planners' Event App Needs , by Mike May - 1 views

  • Mobile app developers claim they have been creating event apps for 5 years, but 2013 is merely the second year of meaningful commercial deployment, with exploding growth expected over the next 3 years.

  • As evidence of the demand for event apps, adoption rates or app downloads are hitting the 80% range, and usage measures like app visits or page views are trending higher too.
  • Just last month, Marriott Hotels announced its new app, Red Coat Direct. Like the Omni app, Marriott touts their app will grant any meeting wish (within reason) so planners never leave their meeting room.
  •
More and more mobile apps for meeting attendees are being created to help enhance the meeting experience.  This article discusses the growing demand for more reliable meeting apps, as well as tips and recommendations on what to consider as one goes about developing an app.  Meeting apps are unique in that they must be property-specific because of the many core features that align with property information.  Core features include, but are not limited to: session schedule and description, speaker photo and bio, attendee profile and schedule, and documents (i.e., PowerPoint presentations).  Mobile meeting apps are not without much effort from event coordinators/organizers plugging the information useful to attendees.  Apps are meeting-specific as they are property-specific.

The article is interesting as it talks about the use of proximity beacons that we have been learning about this week for marketing purposes; however, this article highlights the technology being used in employee security. In recent years hotels have increasingly committed to enhancing employee safety policies, training, and resources such as employee safety devices or ESDs. These are mostly implemented in the housekeeping department, where the employees are often alone in guest rooms and can be vulnerable. Amid the global pandemic, safety for both guests and employees is at the forefront of the industry's priority list. Many companies are taking advantage of this downtime to install personal alert systems or panic buttons. While ESDs are not necessarily new and have been around for some time, the technology has drastically improved. React Mobile, a leading provider of panic button solutions for hotels, has three updated products for the modern age. The Sidekick, which needs to be tethered to a smartphone, is a small panic button that transmits an SOS signal to alert management that an employee is in an emergency situation and requires assistance. The device is discrete and wearable, and with the aid of Bluetooth beacons, it can identify the employee's precise location. The Stand-alone LTE panic button has all the same features of the Sidekick; however, it does not need to be tied to a cellphone. It automatically connects to any available 4G cellular network to send out the SOS transmission. The BLE 5.0 Beacon offers the most advanced and incredibly accurate location information, even within high-rise hotels. When activated, it is so precise that it can provide the exact room number in which the incident occurs. These technologies can also be used outside the hotel property, where the system sends out GPS coordinates to follow an incident in real-time. This security technology provides hotels with the ability to immediately respond in emergency situations and gives t

This article focuses on attendees using a modern day technology- mobile phones, tables and laptops at events and how event planners should engage more in incorporating them in to events and NiceMeeting, has done just that for event coordinators. NiceMeeting has introduced a presentation tool developed to enhance event engagements and maximize the value of knowledge exchange through live events.  Some cool features NiceMeeting also offers even planners is an AV application that turns attendees mobile device, such as iPad, iPhone, Tablet, laptop into a full-featured personal conference display.
  •
This article suggests that the use of handheld technology, such as mobile phones, tablets, and laptops at events has become so widespread, that event planners need to incorporate them into daily use if they want an edge on business. Nicemeeting is just one of many new hospitality applications that enhances the event managing process for event planners. According to the article, it has the capability to turn technology, such as an Ipad or mobile device, into "a full-featured personal conference display." It creates an entirely interactive space. I think that this idea was brilliant, because regardless of whether people like it or not, cell phones are going to be present in the meeting space. This application makes the most of that occurrence and turns it into a positive thing.

Message Blocks: Event Planning in the Digital Age | Xconomy - 0 views

  • Len Gauger, founder of the Ann Arbor-based startup Message Blocks, is pumped; his event-planning software company is off to a good start, he says.
  • He saw a market for software that would allow organizers to coordinate all planning documents in one place online, with the capacity to collect registrations, edit conference agendas, and incorporate real-time reporting—all managed via smartphone app.
  •
Len Gauger is the founder of Message Blocks. Since he was younger, event planning was a big part of his job. He usually managed about twenty events per year. He learned a lot from his past mistakes: the more people involved in the planning process, the more chaotic it became. He saw a market for a software that would allow organizers to coordinate all planning documents in one place online, with the capacity to collect registrations, edit conference agendas, and incorporate real-time reporting all managed via a smartphone app. This is a very good example of using technology in the event industry. Instead of waiting until the morning to get hold of event planner, it is easy to communicate with the company 24/7 online.

This website and company will provide Hotel owners who are working on a limited budget and can not afford HR personnel. Everything is done online or over the telephone. They also specialize in risk management, employee motivation, Insurance practices, payroll, etc. You are pretty much outsourcing your HR dept to a thrid party. This reduces the expense of the hotel having to pay for entire HR staff, all correspondences can be done either over the internet, telephone, mail ins, or however the employee chooses. The downside of this, is that the employee is never dealing with the same person on a continusis basis so they will be stuck with having to explain everything over and over again. It's like dealing with an insurance company you never get the same person on the phone. This program is meant to benefit the employeer more than the employee which kind of defeats the purpose of HR.

Is Your Hospitality Property Ready for An ERP? - 0 views

  • Benefits of an ERP · Information consistency and accuracy across hotel departments · Simplified cross-departmental coordination and workflow execution · Streamlined tasks, which frees hotel staff to focus on activities that require personalized attention · Easier goal setting and monitoring of goal achievement · Agile infrastructure that identifies and fixes problems rapidly
  • The advantages of a single integrated solution are: · Investment in single server to run application · Investment in single software license · Does away with dedicated IT personnel to manage ERP · Maps entire hotel operations in an efficient manner from financial accounting, inventory, payroll, supply chain management, production planning, CRM etc · Cost effective A hospitality ERP is an advanced version of a PMS, designed for data to be entered at a single point and that can be accessed by managers on the go.
  •
This article talks about the constantly evolving and upgrading technology requirements for the hotels. Since hotels are expanding, these technologies make it easier to operate from different geographical locations, and also enables decision making based on revenues, guest services, and other factors. So today, if you are a hotel with a PMS, then one should invest in the era of hotel ERP's and cloud based management solutions. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), is an excellent tool to increase performance, productivity, reducing operational expenses, etc. This will provide the operators with constant visibility to hotel operations with single database and can be accessed through all the departments. it could be a good investment tool as ERP allows for hotels to interact with single vendor, as there is a single solution for multiple operations, and the fixed costs become more manageable.
  •
This article tells us about an alternative to PMS an ERP. The software for hospitality is upgrading and developing everyday, and the requirements for them became more differentiated, strict and variable. The Hospitality industry is spread all over the world so hotel properties are getting larger and need to be managed easily. The number of services offered in the industry is enormous as well so hotel owners need to have appropriate software for all those multiple tasks as maintenance, payroll, CRM, accounts payable, front office and so on. So ERP can be a good thing to invest in with its cloud based management solutions. What can it offer to us? - consistency and accuracy of information - simplified coordination between departments - easier goal settings - new infrastructure that can easier and faster solve problems - really cost effective

  • The Human Resource Information System (HRIS) is a software or online solution for the data entry, data tracking, and data information needs of the Human Resources, payroll, management, and accounting functions within a business.
  • An effective HRIS provides information on just about anything the company needs to track and analyze about employees, former employees, and applicants. Your company will need to select a Human Resources Information System and customize it to meet your needs.

The advantages of having a sophisticated HRIS or HRMS are many. An HRIS or HRMS monitored by qualified specialists who know technology and HR functional and tactical processes can manage compliance with federal and state laws, streamline processes for recruitment and selection, and produce analyses, data and reports for internal and external use. Other advantages of an HRIS include the ease of use for qualification computer technology specialists, accuracy of information and the ability to perform HR audits using any combination of parameters. The employee and manager self-service features are excellent ways to free up the time of your human resources staff members for project work and other duties. Employees and managers can locate answers and information quickly without the need to consult an HR representative every time.
  •
The HRIS system which refers to the human resource information system is software or an online source which tracks data, and entry information in regards to employees in the organization. Most organizations have more then 400 employees in the property it is difficult to keep track, however, the HRIS system makes the life of an HR coordinator or manager much simpler. The system gathers information where it even tracks the enrollment of new and future employees with application and resumes management. Additionally, after they have become a part of the organization it tracks down in several areas making it accessible and efficient for the human resource coordinator or manager to find information for example: attendance and PTO use, pay raises and history, disciplinary actions received as well as personal information and succession plan. This system has integration with payroll and other company financial software and company related documents such as employee handbook. This seems like a very efficient system to have for the Human resource department which makes their life at work much simpler. All the information they need is under one system instead of having a folder in the computer saved for each individual who works for the company. The HRIS system seems very efficient and effective.

The Human resource Information System is a software or online solution for data tracking, data collection, and data analysis that are related to the Human Resources. Normally, it is a package of all human-related things, such as payroll, employee personal information, and etc. Different hotels choose different HRIS by using different packages. The better the HRIS, the more effective the HR management is. A HRIS is effective when it provides information on anything the company need.
  •
This article gives a brief explanation of what exactly HRIS is.  It goes into detail of explaining what the HRIS covers or does. it explains what an effective HRIS provides to its users, explaining that it provides information on just about anything the company needs to track and analyze about employees, former employees and applicants.  I think this is good for a manager or company that doesn't use an HRIS yet to review for furthering their business as i it very helpful.

This system seems as though it can do everything for your property just the way that you would like it to. OPERA is customizable to your company's needs which seems great. This is a great website that you posted as it informs all of us exactly what this PMS is capable of.

The event planning industry was seen by Morse as a billion dollar industry so he decided that the planning and booking process had to be streamlined. The result was a "web based sales and event application that can deliver and capture leads while simplifying the booking and planning of events." The application makes the business more efficient as it stores clients data, so that more emphasis can be placed on sales. "The web application can easily integrate with existing websites and social media channels," so that leads and proposal requests can be made easier.

This article discusses a program called Tripleseat that was created in 2008 as a way to better organize sales and even planning within the hospitality industry. The program is a cloud-based software that provides a competitive edge that event managers need. The founders of the software said that the idea came when he realized that Event sales managers were still using paper and pens to organize their events. He said that event planners were losing sales by not having a simple organized system to track their events. The point of Tripleseat is to provide a fast yet simple to learn program that allows event sales managers to easily book and plan any sort of event no matter the size. It keeps track of little details as well as past client information, there is less paperwork, and managers are able to focus on sales. Since this is a web application it can easily be integrated with other websites as well as social media. It is a sophisticated event planning system, but is also offered at a manageable cost. This type of system sounds like a great system to use. I only wonder if it is able to interface with a property management system of a hotel? Especially one that isn't cloud-based.

Eventbrite Launches 'Neon' App, An Event Planner's Mobile Command Center - Forbes - 1 views

  • Neon allows event organizers to sell tickets as the event—be it concert, lecture, educational class, etc.—is about to happen or after it has already begun, on the spot. In fact, if showtime is closing in, the app allows those in charge to offer special last-minute deals to help fill the venue. The program can accept mobile payments as well, making a manager or booker’s iPhone an all-in-one command center.
  • Neon also collects all kinds of data connected to the event, with information on ticket sales, check-ins, and everything in between accessible at any time. This data is important to venue owners and those booking events, as it can help when planning future events, dictating times, prices, and showing what kinds of events are most popular.

Neon is a new app designed by Eventbrite to be used by Event Planners in order to help organize the events they are coordinating. The app is available for iPod, iPad and the iPhone making it conveniently accessible through one's mobile device. The app allows event organizers to sell tickets in advance to an even as well as provide last minute deals to fill all remaining spots. The app even allows payment to be taken right from the event organizer's mobile device. The app also allows the user to manage guest lists and even helps those who have access to the app to make customer service decisions so that disgruntled guests are not sent to a different location to settle ticket disputes. With all the data the app collects even organizers are able to see important data pertaining to popularity of certain events as well as price variations. The app was designed to be used in dark places. This feature, along with many others makes it user friendly and it is helping event organizers to keep track of important data that will allow them to better assist customers in the future.

I think I'd need to see it in action. The Forbes article sounds a lot like an Eventbrite press release. I like the idea in principal, but it almost sounds like too much to jam into a single app. Tickets sales, venue status, customer service, revenue tracking.,,, Deployed and linked across multiple tablets, each with it's own purpose and/or scattered across the event venue (with users in some sort of identifiable uniform), I can see it being useful. This also seems like a bit of a departure from straight tickets sales. Who else is in the market space? I'd be interested if Ticket Master is also coming online with event software.
