Mukesh Ambani may be the surprise winner from India's new rules hurting Amazon and Walm... - 1 views

  • E-commerce in India is gearing up for some massive changes from February 1. Foreign e-commerce players — like Amazon and Flipkart — will no longer be able to offer consumers ‘deep discounts’ or sell their own brands through their respective platforms. It’s a big blow to Jeff Bezos’ and Walmart, and not the best news for consumers in India. Local vendors are voicing their support for the new policy, hoping they can regain some market share, without having to lose more money by offering discounts.

  • Marketers know that providing personalised content to end users is critical to increase engagement.
  • Beacons broadcast content that is specific to a physical location. This means that end users get access to what’s relevant and useful to them specific to wherever they may be – whether they’re at an airport, in a hotel, at a tourist location or a shop.
  • ...5 more annotations...
  • It’s expected that 70% of retail companies will use beacons over the next 5 years.
  • Coaster CMS is a next generation, beacon enabled Content Management System. It has been built from the ground up to make the management of content easy for the website owner. It’s beacon enabled with support for both Kontakt and Estimote beacons, and has innovative features that make it the perfect platform to build both static and location based content.
  • These beacons enable you to create micro-moments with your customers: these are critical touch points within the consumer journey which, when added together ultimately determine how that journey ends.
  • Offers, maps, and other important information can be all broadcasted via Bluetooth beacons, making the possibilities endless.
  • On average, we check our phones a whopping 150 times a day. This offers a huge number of opportunities for savvy marketers to target us with products.
  •
This article discusses the promising technological advances going on in the space of proximity marketing. It details the advantages that proximity marketing can offer companies over traditional marketing methods and even lays out several ways that companies can get started in the space. Give how many times the average person checks their phone a day and the growing number of companies that are expected to adopt beacons, the technology used to broadcast content to a specific physical location, it makes logical sense that the technology for proximity marketing will only increase. That is why systems like Coaster CMS, the Content Management System, listed in the article will continue to be more prevalent as the need to have a firmer grasp on the content being delivered to customers becomes increasingly more important and used in a more widespread fashion.

Supply Chain Sustainability Takes Root - 0 views

  •
This article was very interesting to read about sustainability and how companies are trying to adapt. These companies are trying to cut greenhouse gas emission so that they can help out the environment but most importantly to save money. Due to the advance in technology, it is a little easier for CEO to make their companies sustainable. What is motivating these companies even more is that it really helps them save money and make more profit. I really think it is a good thing that companies are trying to be sustainable, if it was up to me I would have been try to make my company sustainable because it's just a win-win situation. You are helping the environment big time and also your profit becomes even bigger. I learned that software plays a major role in creating a more sustainable supply chain. At the end of the day going sustainable will benefit the environment, company and customers.

  • Once broadly implemented, Kenny says it should be possible for a customer to book a flight, rent a car and stay in hotel room and have the entire transaction not only handled electronically, but also fed back directly to their company’s accounting systems for payment. The entire transaction would be devoid of any paper, he said.
  • Today, the travel industry is made up of airlines, hotels, car rental companies and a host of other organizations all offering services around the fundamental need to travel. The problem from the consumer’s perspective is that they have to pretty much engage these companies separately to get to where they are going. But what if they could all be engaged as part of the same transaction?
  • That’s part of the thinking that is going into the development of a new Agilaire Passenger Service Solution that Hewlett-Packard is developing. HP is licensing the RezView NG reservation system developed by Pegasus Systems to create a foundation on top of which the company is building a new scalable cross-company reservation ad billing system that will reside in the cloud.
  •
The article talks about a integrated cloud computing system developed by HP for the travel and hospitality industry. It will allow a user to book a flight, hotel and car rental all using one system which will then generate a electronic receipt, thus also rendering the operation paperless. Articles like this shows us that we are in a ever changing industry, our adaptation needs  to be immediate if we want to keep our customer happy. Programs like this let us know that our customer can also come from the most unexpected places in the world, because we are not just providing a service like hotel or restaurant, we are serving a much larger  objective for our customer which is 'the need travel"
  •
This article speaks about combining all aspects of travel and hospitality that guests utilize. For instance, hotel, car rental and flight. This is a really good idea because it makes it easier for the guest to pay for and make travel arrangements.  It also allows for collaboration between the industries which would, as the article says, change the travel and hospitality industry. Creating the system in the cloud makes it easily accessible to all those who would be collaborating. There would be no need to host the server because that would be an extra expense. For this idea to be implemented, serious considerations and development have to be looked at for an internet back up. Should companies accept the Agilaire Passenger Service Solution cloud network, then their success and functionality depends on the constant functioning of the internet.
  •
This article talks about how does the tourism industry had develop in the past years and how connected are all the branches that form part of it. Hotels, Airlines, Car rental, are the basics of this industry. With all the technologies growing faster, these business still complain about a miss conection between them. This is what HP is trying to fix, developing a Agilaire Passenger Service solution to create a foundation on top of which the company is bulduing a new scalable cross-company reservation and billing system that will reside in the cloud. the basic idea is to allow companies in the travel industry to leverage a common transaction processing system built using modern Linux, Java J2EE and service oriented architecture (SOA) technologies wrapped around an easy-to-use interface. Where this gets interesting from a business perspective is that if you can break down the transaction barriers between companies in the travel and hospitality industry. We can see how the cloud is growing and helping industries to be integrate all together

Becoming a King of the Cloud: How Hoteliers Can Level the Playing Field Using Cloud Tec... - 0 views

  • For revenue managers, however, perhaps the most important offering for hotels on the cloud is the low, predictable fees that come with a model that is typically subscription-based. This pay-as-you-go model removes the commission costs to the technology provider. Ultimately, this not only provides a boost to a hotel’s bottom line but an opportunity for that hotel to be connected to a greater number of booking sites and meta-search engines – to find travelers, and to be found.
  • Through the cloud, hotels are equipped with one architecture that is not only powerful today but is equally prepared for the change that is inevitable in future. According to Criteo’s Travel Flash Report, the first half of 2014 saw: Mobile bookings on travel websites are growing faster than desktop, at 20 percent versus 2 percent Smartphones and tablets account for 21 percent of hotel bookings In-app bookings account for 12 percent of total mobile bookings made on travel websites
  • Cisco has forecast that cloud applications will account for 90 percent of global mobile data traffic by 2018.
  •
This article summarizes how a particular advance in IT, specifically cloud technology, has made it easier for hotels to actually provide hospitality. By democratizing the industry-leading technology solutions, the cloud provides independent hoteliers with the ability to compete with their larger counterparts by increasing efficiencies. While the article identifies many of the general benefits of cloud technology that we have been discussing in class previously, such as uninterrupted access to business solutions and much lower hardware costs, it goes on to provide specific examples of how hotels can actually integrate software within the cloud to power their business. For example, revenue management solutions on the cloud often work on a pay-as-you-go model, not a subscription. This increases the number of connections that hotel revenue managers can make with OTAs, in turn driving conversion to actual bookings. Moreover, cloud-based revenue management solutions provide integrated software that decreases the need for a large revenue management staff. The article also cites the prevalence of mobile bookings, which are growing at 20% versus 2% for desktop bookings. More than a fifth of bookings are actually done using a mobile device. With all of this new consumer data, hotels can actually personalize their offerings for their guests. This will decrease generic advertising costs over time. The reason why it is important to take these mobile bookings into account is that mobile consumers are already connected to the cloud as they make these arrangements. With that in mind, hotels need to turn around and continue to push storage, advertising, and booking solutions on the cloud to meet this demand.

40% of corporate negotiated rates are not visible on the GDS | News | Hospitality Magaz... - 1 views

  • 40% of corporate negotiated rates are not visible on the hotel global distribution system (GDS), highlighting that this sector is poorly serviced by suppliers.
  • ndependent hotels
  • evolution identified eight main reasons why 40% of corporate negotiated rates are not visible on the GDS.
  •
Our Philosophy "We believe that independent hotels and smaller chains deserve the chance to compete with well-established hard brands with massive budgets. With that in mind, we develop smart, innovative and affordable tools to help even the playing field. May the best hotel win!" This company (evolution) looks to distinguish their brand by giving the opportunity to independent or small chain hotels the chance to fight with big chain hotels. Having said that, in this article they (evolution) state that a 40% of a corporate negotiated rate is no visible on the hotels' GDS. As stated previously, this percentage refers to that of a small chain hotel or independent hotels, not big chain hotels. After researching this sector, of corporate customers, they found that the GDS nor the CRS nor the CM (Channel manager) are sufficient for a satisfactorial system. Thus saying that these systems do not work on this specific market because the information provided through them is probably erroneous for many reasons. Such reason are stated by the article as follows: 1. wrong access codes provided by travel agents (miss communication) 2. hotel's rates are visible but not go according with the contract. 3. incorrect access city codes have been supplied (miss communication). 4. availability for those rooms are not applied in time by the hotel (probably because of lower staff). 5. lower rates from other sources (other sites give better rates than corporate GDS). 6. wrong rates loaded for the corporate customers (wrong information and not having glanced at it on time); among other possible reasons. I believe all this can be fixed by taking proper actions (evolution also offers solutions to these problems), but not everyone has a desire or the focus to attack them, thus falling on these situations.

This article is talking about how the hotel cybersecurity keeps guest information data secure and why is very important. Most of the hotel has a really big database of the guest's personal information. Thus, it's easy to have security problems happen in the hotel. Hospitality organizations have to understand their vulnerabilities and always have to make a plan about how to protect hotel guest's data. This article also introduced 4 key areas cybersecurity teams need to focus on. First of all, instill security as a Cultural Norm. When the customer chooses the hotel to stay, which means they trust this hotel, they feel the environment is safe and they trust the digital assets as well. They will connect the Wi-Fi with their personal laptop or smartphone. Therefore, hotelier have to train their employee about provide the safety environment for their guests is necessary and everyone have to focus on it. Secondly, Think Beyond the Credit Card. Every billing system need to be protect customers personal and financial information, the hotel need to think about the multiple endpoints. Third, Be Smart About Responses. When the cybercrimes happen, they need to be reported responsibly and they have to know this thing at the first moment. Hotel have to keep training their security teams and be aware of some bad things happen. The last one, Don't sleep on Insider Threats. There is one thing that hotel have to focus on that the employee may steal data to sell it to other company.
  •
This article mentioned how hotels do not have as many transactions as popular stores have but their transactions are typically more than grocery transactions. Hotels have a lot of personal information for many people and that information should not be leaked, never. It was mentioned that hotels need security as it is a cultural norm, you have to think beyond the credit card, be smart about responses, and don't sleep on insider threats. "Hotels are vulnerable to cybercrimes through a variety of avenues that break with the traditional physical security measures deployed across the hospitality industry. Keeping guests and their assets - both physical and digital - safe is paramount to preserving both the image and financial security of hotels."

San Diego airport's multifunctional beacon app streamlines flying - Mobile Marketer - S... - 1 views

  • A growing number of airports are realizing the value of deploying beacons to their infrastructure, particularly when it comes to minimizing hassle and stress for time-strapped travelers.
  • In 2016, there has been a step increase in the activity in the airport market around BLE beacons.

  • ...4 more annotations...
  • major airports will have to move to indoor location technologies over the next five years
  • it can integrate with airline companies’ and airport retailers’ own apps, infrastructure and services
  • What is great about the deployment at San Diego International Airport is that it has built in a huge range of customer utility, while also opening up the platform to third-party apps from airlines
  • “From San Diego’s point of view, it is driving its own value from the platform for internal applications that improve overall efficiency, even before a passenger has downloaded the app.”
  •
Beacon-based indoor location technology is driving the future of airport consumer experiences. Mobile applications use these beacons to provide up-to-the-second information to travelers regarding everything from flight data and security checkpoint line length to taxi wait times and baggage tracking. The largest commercial value of these apps and beacons lies in the platforms' ability to integrate with third-party apps and infrastructure from airline carriers and airport retailers. While this integration could potentially drive advertisement revenue for the airports, many of the locations that have begun experimenting with these technologies report that the systems investment pays for itself in increased efficiencies in internal systems, including security checkpoints and taxi queues.
