Visit Baltimore launches 3D map app for city tourists - Baltimore Business Journal - 3 views

  • Ayers Saint Gross used a combination of satellite, GIS and aircraft imaging to create the 3D map, which can be constantly updated as new buildings arise and others are torn down.
  • Ayers Saint Gross is in the process of working with Apple and Android to create smart phone versions of the app, and could not give an estimate of when it would be ready for the public.
  • Not only does it allow tourists to navigate the city, but it also sells the city to potential clients interested in bringing their meetings and events to Baltimore, he said.

  • Potential visitors can search for rooms for conventions, find restaurants near their hotels and see nearby transportation options from the bird’s eye or a street view. Noonan can even create custom virtual tours to showcase local attractions that particular groups might be interested in, allowing new visitors to understand the lay of the land before they’ve set foot on it.
  •
This article introduce a very nice, brand new 3D application that can help many tourists when they arrive, in Baltimore. As useful as the app may be to tourists, it's pretty sad that they have all these lovely features for one city and nowhere else.We can see that from google map to this 3D map, seems like it is a trend that the companies are developing theapplication of navigating tourists. However, I'm glad that they haven't revealed this app to the App Store or Play Store yet for the public because they need to expand their horizons before they even think to release it to the market. But as long as they improve this app and release to the public, it will be great convenience for the tourists.

I highlighted the two passages I found to be most interesting in blue. I read that the system will update it's self every 24 hours but I'm wondering if that would include the forecast and traffic conditions. Does this also offer some type of naviagation device weather it be by car or foot? Baltimore, can be a rather rough city at time. I know that it will high light tourist attractions, convention centers, etc. But will it highlight street names and areas that travelers should stay away from?

Event Planning In The Hotel Of The Future - 1 views

  • Combining today’s recognizable technology, such as touchscreen and virtual reality, with concepts that are beyond our time, these are some of the notable features hotels in the future will have.
  • he idea of using robots could help break down the language barrier that is sometimes the case when planning in other countries as these robots are naturally multi-lingual and can adapt to the language you are using.
  • This includes robot butlers, entertainment, greeters and business services which for planning events can be more cost effective and reduce human error, streamlining the process of communicating with the systems to get exactly what you want.
  • ...12 more annotations...
  • As one of the strongest drivers for change in the event industry, technology plays a prominent role in the planning and management of events
  • It could also be the case that it loses that human touch for the guests and when quick problem-solving is needed, robots won’t be able to deal with this as intuitively as they follow set protocols.
  • With 3D bio-printing currently being researched, it is not a huge leap to consider 3D printers in hotel rooms that can accommodate products such as headphones or clothing and accessories
  • Based on votes and crowdsourcing, venues can be made-to-order and self-assemble the environment around them to suit.
  • Larger venues and associated grounds could create an event in themselves by recreating famous landmarks or even movie settings that could be explored.
  • Based on your DNA, own health and genetics you would be able to visit health centers and spas that could promote longevity. It could become the latest trend in bachelorette parties or healthy event experiences that cater to the health conscious.
  • A hotel that is short-term and could pop-up in limited spaces would work hand in hand with pop-up events and mean they could be reproduced on a larger scale.
  • It is suggested that fast and effective hovering, autonomous airport transfers would be able to go supersonic in order to beat the traffic and reduce the journey. If this is the case it could free up plenty of time on the itinerary for corporate or destination events and this means providing a better experience.
  • As sustainability and environmental issues are becoming an increasing concern and given prominence, it makes sense that future hotels and venues would plan sustainable events and accommodation
  • Sustainable hotels that produce and operate on clean, self-sustaining energy will become a viable option for the environmentally conscious guest and the suggestion is that all hotels would have the option to become sustainable.
  • These would work in a similar way to how a concierge app works now and would streamline the travel bookings and searches. In the same way that Siri can help you access items from the internet or your phone, these avatars would be a more complex and capable version that cuts out the need for travel agents
  • rom biometric payment systems which can greatly reduce the risk of identity theft to eye scanner room entry, DNA authorizations will be more popular. As technology develops, so does the need for security
  •
This article talks about the future of event planning. The efforts hotels will have to make to be competitive in the industry. It also talks about the technology that will have to be offered such as VR (virtual reality).
  •
This article is very interesting because it lists all the ways that event planning will be in the future because of technological advances. It talks about autonomous staff, 3D shopping, made-to-order venues, personalized longevity health spas, pop-up hotels, supersonic air travel, sustainable hotels, personal travel avatars, and DNA authorization. The article describes the benefits and downfalls to each one and puts emphasis on the fact that these advances are closer than we can imagine.

Yum Brands Is Adding Disruptive Technologies Across Its Global Restaurant System. Here'... - 0 views

  • Those moves set the ball set in motion to integrate technology-centric solutions across its four brands across the world with an objective of elevating both the customer and team member experiences.
  • “What Covid has done is change our mindset. We don’t have to have everything perfect to launch something. For example, in Pizza Hut, U.S., we launched contactless curbside and carryout in two weeks. In the previous environment, it would have taken months, committees, testing protocols. Now we don’t have the luxury of time. We don’t have to wait until we have sharpened the blade to perfection. Our strategy is the same, but our pace is faster,” Felder said during a recent interview.

  • rm for startups and plans for a physical innovation lab to open later this year
  • The digital lab is unique in that it translates restaurant operations–be it at KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell or Habit Burger–into a cloud “facility.”
  • Park’s team takes all digital inputs from Yum’s restaurants, like closed-circuit television footage of cars in the drive-thru, point-of-sale data or drive-thru audio, and puts it into the cloud
  • Plug and Play, which claims to be the world’s largest global innovation platform for startups and corporations
  • Automation can free up employees’ time spent on manual back-of-house tasks so they can focus more on customer-facing tasks, ideally providing more speed and accuracy in the process.
  • Some of these ideas–like voice, artificial intelligence, computer vision, IoT–have popped up in the restaurant industry here and there. None, however, have proliferated at the global scale Yum Brands offers. This is where the true disruption could happen. Yum has over 50,000 restaurants in more than 150 countries and territories, and employs 1.5 employees and franchise associates. Few food and beverage companies have this kind of global footprint.
  • Restaurant companies are no longer dabbling in technology efficiencies, they’re relying on them for their very survival. In fact, because of the pandemic, digital sales are now expected to make up more than half of limited-service business by 2025–a 70% increase over pre-COVID estimates.
  • “The big lesson for us is we’ve got to be where the customer is. We have several restaurants at the moment trying to take consumer ease to the next level,” Felder said. “I don’t think we’ve ever seen a more fertile time of innovation in the history of the restaurant industry. We’re about to hit a wave of transformative innovations.”
  •
Yum Brands, which runs restaurants KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Habit Burger, is integrating technology-centric solutions across its four brands around the world, which could result in an acceleration of disruptive technologies on a large scale. This Digital Innovation Lab then adds information from thousands of Yum Brand restaurants into a cloud facility. The information includes closed-circuit tv from a restaurant's drive-thru and point-of-sale or drive-thru audio. Hundreds of startups then get access to the data to compare their technologies in the lab. They're able to use that information to create more automated services like artificial intelligence, computer vision and the Internet of Things. Yum's idea is by improving automation back of house, employees can focus more time on customer-facing tasks, resulting in more speed and accuracy.

  • In addition to speeding up registration time, incorporating RFID technology into events will help with both qualitative and quantitative data analysis, thereby making it easier for planners to target what worked during their event and what didn’t.
  • Though event apps are admittedly helpful, they now have a new hurdle to face. Producing an application to be used for one event is costly, time consuming, and inefficient, as users must learn how to interact with the app for each new event attended. Phone storage space is very important to consumers. Many are hesitant to download an application that they will only use once. Thus, event apps that can continue to deliver value to customers beyond the date of the event itself, are going to become a huge trend.
  • RFID also has the potential to allow attendees to become more engaged with the event across various social platforms.

RFID, event applications, wearable technology, virtual reality, and social media are upcoming popular uses for event planners. With RFID event planners are able to keep better track of the guests attending the event as well as keeping them more involved. I first heard of this a few months ago when attending an event and it described that a chip with RFID was placed inside the wristband-type ticket. For me, the most interesting thing is the wearable technology! Imagine an event where you can have directions given to you or a layout of the event right on your wrist! Also, the watch can notify you of events happening within an event or you can see order your food or see the menu. To know that soon enough it will be a norm for everyone to have some type of wearable technology and that event planners can truly get the guests involved through this use is exciting.

This article discusses five major event technology trends. The first is RFID, which can assist in registration time but even more important is being used to gather both qualitative and quantitative data analysis. This kind of data acquisition is great because it allows for planners to analysis, study and understand what worked and didn't work for their events. The second is multi-use apps. These apps allow the event to incorporate important aspects like activities, scheduled break down, and speaker info all at once. Additionally these apps allow attendees to socialize with other participants, and expand their network. The other technologies are some that can definitely change the industry once they are fully integrated. These include: wearable technology, virtual reality, and social media.

Nowadays the event planning becomes more and more popular. With the development of event planning, we have 5 event technology trends shaping the future of event planning. The first on is RFID-radio frequency identification. In addition to speeding up registration time, incorporating RFID technology into events will help with both qualitative and quantitative data analysis, thereby making it easier for planners to target what worked during their event and what didn't. In this way, it will be easier to foster repeat attendees. The second one is multi-use apps. It's easy to use apps to solve problems. event apps that can continue to deliver value to customers beyond the date of the event itself are going to become a huge trend. The third one is wearable technology. Like google glasses should be a trend in the future. Facial recognition and contact information make the event planning more easier. The fourth one is VR. VR is a great way to up attendee engagement during events. The last one is social media. Social media will be a really important trend. Social media is more than likely the way that investors and sponsors will advertise your event.

This website shows a meeting room app which is very helpful for hotel meetings and events. Planning meetings and events is not a easy task. Conference managers or sales directors have to introduce their meeting space and explain how they are going to hold an event or a meeting.  By using this application, managers can show the meeting rooms' features by 3D images or videos directly to clients, which is absolutely much easier for them. What's more, the usage of smartphone and tablets like iPad is increasing very fast. More and more people are owning their wireless devices and are drenched in IT persons.  Therefore, I think using different kind of APPs will be a good way for hotels to sell rooms and services.

Explore the Hotel of Tomorrow - 0 views

  • Total Connectivity: Imagine technology at its best — nearly invisible and easily accessible computers, hand-held Wi-Max devices and high-resolution 3D screens — all available with the swipe of a card
  • By using sustainable design and renewable resources, future hotels will be greener and environmentally conscious. Devices that monitor a guest’s water and electricity usage and offer reduced pricing may be the next logical step.
  •
A Chicago based interior architecture and design firm along with the Hospitality Design Group are working on a project to create the Hotel of Tomorrow. The idea is to have a personalized hotel room where you can feel like you are anywhere in the world at any place. The hotel would incorporate a number of high tech devices such as 3d screens, tablet pc's, and virtually invisible computers. The idea also brings on a green side where the hotel would involve bioengineered reusable products into play. A lot of the ideas in the article seem a little far fetched but are still foreseeable to come along with the advances in technology.

Top 3 technology innovations changing the restaurant industry | FastCasual - 4 views

  • With technology evolving on multiple fronts in today's foodservice industry, restaurant operators are facing more pressure than ever to improve their business operations.
  • Grimes encouraged foodservice operators to not only take a comprehensive look at the types of technology affecting their industry but also how they could apply innovations being used outside foodservice.
  • ake Pepper the robot, for example, which a few airport restaurants are using to greet guests, provide menu details and offer menu recommendations.

This article highlights the advice Robert Grimes, International Food & Beverage Technology Association president and CEO, gives to those looking to innovate their technologies in the Food & Beverage industry. In the article Grimes hits 3 main points: robotics, 3D printing, and Blockchain. He hits that robotics are being utilized already in food service outlets. How robotics are not only assisting customers with faster food times but also providing more variety to them within this decreased period. As well as assistance in the kitchen to execute orders faster. He discusses how 3D printing "will enable the food service industry to serve more fresh food - faster and with less space than traditional food service." For example, with cake decorating and pizza making. Within the article, Grimes also has an obscure idea, but yet one no one has thought about yet, of using a tracking service called Blockchain that can be readily available to customers to see where food from a restaurant is coming from (i.e. farm to table restaurants could show where they are receiving their products from exactly). Almost emulating the tracking service most use for packages being delivered to their homes. Grimes lastly explains the "seven Cs" of food service technology - clarity, convergence, connections, convenience, choice, consumer and commitment. "He placed clarity at the top of this list since the rapid growth of technology calls for clarifying what one refers" to, which he utilized to explain the 3 innovations. The rest of the article hits the rest of the C's and what each means to him and how it could help improve food service. However, the most important piece of information comes with the closing sentence: "To utilize technology, an organization must make a concerted effort to ensure that all employees are making use of it." Meaning that, you could implement everything and believe in it fully, but without belief of those working for you and with you, none of it will matter.

It could also help different restaurants within the same area compete with how fresh their ingredients compared to others based on where product is purchased from.
  • the "seven Cs" of foodservice technology — clarity, convergence, connections, convenience, choice, consumer and commitment.
  • Business organizations need to have a holistic view of technology for their different departments. If they fail to do this, they run the risk of choosing the wrong system.
  • "People want to be able to get to their technology however they want to get there," he said, be it via a kiosk, a smartphone, a watch or a desktop.
  • "If you want to lower the cost of technology, go with consumer technology," he said. Many businesses already use consumer smartphones and laptops for this very reason.
  • Grimes insisted that many businesses continue to view technology as an overhead expense instead of an opportunity to improve service and efficiency.
