Wal-Mart Ditches Amazon Prime-Like Service, Reduces Free 2-Day Shipping Requirements - 0 views

  • Wal-Mart Ditches Amazon Prime-Like Service, Reduces Free 2-Day Shipping Requirements
  • Marc Lore, president and CEO of Wal-Mart U.S. eCommerce, said in a statement. "Two-day free shipping is the first of many moves we will be making to enhance the customer experience and accelerate growth."
  •
With increased competition, Walmart is now offering a similar program to that of Amazon. Now Walmart shoppers are able to utilize free 2 day shipping with a purchase of over $35 (a decrease from that of $50 before). By decreasing the price Walmart will now enable more of its shoppers to take advantage. Marc Lore, president and CEO of Walmart US eCommerce said "in today's world of eCommerce, two day free shipping is table stakes. It no longer makes sense to charge for it." Amazon made just shy of $513 million in the first quarter of 2016 (Wired.com). I'm sure this is one way in which Walmart aims to get a piece of that pie in 2017.

American Airlines Battles Expedia in Online Ticket War - TIME - 1 views

  • Southwest requires that consumers go directly to its website to book a trip. That makes it more difficult for passengers to comparison-shop, but Southwest has won customer trust, and loyalty, by delivering consistently low fares for decades rather than make consumers hunt them down. Capturing customers on its own website also allows Southwest to get additional revenue from ancillary items such as rental cars and frequent-flyer credit cards — a revenue stream American has undoubtedly taken note of.
  • In bypassing the online travel agents, American saves on distribution costs, but can also raise its ticket prices more easily, since its fares won't be displayed directly beside those of its competitors.
  •
Computer reservations have become the primary means of disseminating air travel information to the airline-sales distribution system. These systems have greatly impacted competition within the airline industry. Sophisticated automation is changing the method by which reservations are requested and accepted. Never before have airline reservations come from so many varied directions. The lack of capital barrier to entry, the mobility of financial and physical capital and a well established information and distribution system seem to preclude any carrier from maintaining unreasonable rates and services without inviting a timely competitive response

Computer reservation systems and airline competition - 0 views

  •
Sophisticated automation is changing the method by which reservations are requested and accepted. Never before have hotels had reservations coming into their property from so many varied directions. Legislation is being considered for presentation to Congress which would require divestiture of CRS by individual airlines. The bill would prevent any airline from owning more than ten percent of a CRS system that list flights and schedules of other carrier. The justification for this is that the airlines often find a way around any rules the US government enacts, including present ones.

Buffalo Wild Wings Franchisees Improve Service With Automated - 1 views

  • implemented QSR's automated kitchen display software and hardware within franchise operators of Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar restaurants to help ensure consistency, food quality, and optimum ticket times.
  • . We are now able to look at what each station is doing and effectively manage our problem areas by finding which employees can keep up and which can't. It has also made our kitchen calm, organized, and quiet.
  • 24-7 supplies a comprehensive set of solutions to these Buffalo Wild Wings franchisees which includes a POS system that is the "easiest and most flexible in the industry,"
  •
Buffalo Wild Wings added QSR's automated kitchen display hardware and software to over 40 of their locations. These locations are currently using a ticket-less automated system in the kitchen and have found there are faster "ticket" times, they are better able to determine problem areas in the kitchen, and are able to evaluate employee performance during busy times in the restaurant. When using a "ticket-less" system it is easier to track orders and/or mistakes that may happen because you do not lose the ticket (which is a common occurrence) I currently work at a restaurant that was looking into QSR's automated kitchen system, but we have not done that at this point, but we will move to that eventually. However we do have QSR's newest seating and wait list management technology and it does make a world of difference when managing seating and a waiting list in a large restaurant.

Social Media and Technology Trends and the U.S. Foodservice Industry : Packaged Facts - 0 views

  •
Technology has opened a new door to the consumer's lifestyle, and a great opportunity for the restaurant owners to make a significant profit; people are using the PC via internet and the mobile devices (smart phones) to place food orders and right away make the payment of their order getting the receipt via email. Consumers can see the menu and pictures of the different dishes with the description of the ingredients of each one and nutritional value. Consumers can place the food orders while they are in their office, school, home, etc. Also, social networking sites are playing an important tool for these restaurant owners in their marketing strategy, it helps to create brand loyalty, inform the consumers for the new events, and also advertise the job opening.

Wireless service: Waiters toting tablets, wine lists via Wi-F - 0 views

  • wait staff with iPods and iPads to take food orders.
  • he iPod's point-of-sale system application wirelessly sends the customer' order to the kitchen - free of illegible handwriting.
  • the retail price for his two iPads and 10 iPod Touches, plus $2,000 for the software license. He expects to recover the cost through reduced expenses on pens and paper.
  •
Restaurants have been turning more to high tech tools to better their services. A restaurant in Chapel Hill, NC has given its wait staff iPods and iPads to take food orders instead of writing with a pen and paper. Guests can look at photos of the dishes to help them make their decision and when the order is complete, the server can send it wirelessly to the kitchen.  This is a great way to increase customer service and overall satisfaction on both ends. It reduces wrong orders and is a green incentive as it eliminates much of the restaurant's paper use. However, it is a pricey investment to make. The restaurant owner in Chapel Hill said he expects to recover the cost in the long run through reduced expenses on paper and pens.  The wait staff reported they liked this new way of taking orders because they don't have to worry about their writing being illegible or their hand cramping up from writing so fast. It is beneficial for the customers in that it is a more interactive way for them to order and get something they have a better chance of liking since they can see photos. It also eliminates problems seeing a printed menu in dark lighting. Additionally, orders are processed right away so guests don't have to worry about their food taking a long time to come out because the server either forgot to put it in or they were running around doing other things before getting to the POS station.

Point of Sale Energising the Hotel Service Cycle | Technology - 0 views

  • POS systems are not new to the industry but have come a long way from simple billing machines to delivering greater value to their users.
  • Hotels should choose a POS that is easily adaptable and fully customisable to suit their specific business needs.
  • The heart of a hospitality business is in its service and delivery of guest experience. A POS enhances both of these.
  •
POS can energize the hotel service cycle. POS system offers an ideal opportunity to move from a manual system to technology that stores customer data, which can be mined for business intelligence and thus facilitates improvement and efficiency at customer touch points. POS system can be fully integrated with room service and front office to ensure accurate and faster billing. It is fairly easy to use, getting staff acquainted with the application and interface will help to ensure faster ROI on installation. Using POS software, hotel staff can spend less time on formalities and more on delivering better customer service. It is integral for both order generation and tracking inventory shrinkage. Proper implementation of POS functions increases business profitability by providing management with details on fast moving products, time of sale and profitability. Now apps with Android market enhanced the use of POS. In the future, POS systems are going to get smarter, faster and better.

Email Marketing The Right Way - 0 views

  • The digital age is a boon for marketing in the travel and hotel industry. It makes promotion and communication easier than ever before. Through the personalized medium of email, it is even more easier and safer to communicate for hotel bookings.
  •
The article explains in depth why e marketing is the right way. Marketing involves a product from the geographic location, price depend on the preferences and income of consumers in the target market, the place is the distribution points where the product is available, and promotion methods and media is what the tourism service uses to communicate the availability and benefits of what it's offering, which is a marketing mix.

CKE Restaurants Approve Panasonic POS Solution - 0 views

  •
In 2011, it was announced that Panasonic would be providing their Stingray POS workstations to Carl's Jr. and Hardee's franchisees. This new type of POS system would allow for improved customer service, increased security and increase operational efficiency for the firm. Additionally, the POS system would have increased RAM and could also be integrated into a LAN network. I believe that investing in such systems is extremely beneficial to the firm if it does provide the expected and promised results. It is a costly investment but could in the long term provide tremendous benefits to the company.
