VoiceThread - 3 views

  •
This website utilizes pictures, video or any type of work that can be uploaded to the site by a teacher or a student. Participants are able to provide written, voice or video comments about the posted artifact. This is a collaborative, student-centered site that promotes cognitive processing of information. This artifact represents what Mayer (2009) calls dual coding, including both textual and visual components. The students have the opportunity to respond in a variety of ways to the instruction which promotes higher level thinking skills. I plan to create my own Voice Thread using our own student writing.

VoiceThread incorporates media from a variety of sources and allows the layering of sound and comments from many sources. The application support completely new types of sharing and presentation. We can create multimedia albums in which can insert documents in PDF, Excel, PPT and MCS. VoiceThread is an excellent resource for presentations.
  •
Collaborative place for images, video and documents. The doodle feature is an interesting twist. This will be utilized by my participants in giving feedback and sharing of videos.
  •
Wow! I encourage you to watch the tutorial video for voicethread. You and others can collaborate on an artifact, draw on it, provide commentary on it (the most accented function).
  •
multimedia collaboration software no installation required
  •
VoiceThread is a tool for digital storytelling which uses photos and audio and text to share.  The site is centered around the technology, but its use is learner centered.
  •
Voicethread is excellent for generative learning. It presents information through the visual and auditory channels. Its unique ability to integrate voice comments and feedback inline during the presentation sets it apart from others as away to integrate the learning of many students. This ability to collaborate not only includes their website and an iOS application, but is also available through the phone. Each presentation can receive a phone number so students can leave comments in that way if their computer systems do not allow them to otherwise.
  •
Voice thread can be used for presentations as well as students work. You can upload media and have your participants leave comments.
  •
VoiceThread allows its users to create a slideshow presentation using images and/or video components. Once the presentation has been designed and ready to share, it can be embedded onto any webpage. This allows for easier access to its users and viewers. This particular online presentation program was much easier to use and access than many of the other programs that I viewed. It also allows for collaboration among classmates and instructors, by permitting others to comment on each photo through text, audio, or video.
  •
VoiceThread is a collaborative tool that allows users to upload media and engage in dialogue. Users can provide commentary on the media that is presented through typing or voice recording. An additional feature of VoiceThread allows users to draw with a pen as a way of highlighting while they are talking. The administrator has options to block participants' responses from each other before revealing all the comments for viewing. This website supports essential and generative learning because participants are given the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to transfer knowledge gained.

Glogster (EDU version) - 4 views

The classroom is a dynamic environment with a huge variety of opportunities for showcasing what has been learned in professional development. Sure, writing a lesson plan or a reflection may indicate how well the participant has benefited from PD course material, but to gain an authentic look into what the students are now capable of doing as a result of the teacher's professional development a web 2.0 tool may be more appropriate. An authentic assessment option is the glog. The glog is a way for educators to share what the students have learned and how the objectives from a PD course have been integrated into daily instruction. Plus, students love the multimedia interface and easy to use tools.

Brief description of what it allows you to do and how it can be used for essential or generative learning: You create an online posted with interactive features...sound, text, video, flash animations. This is a great product tool for assessment because it hosts all types of input as previously mentioned. You can also provide links to outside sites. Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found (e.g., more effective, creates better products, easier to use, and so on): Free version to educators and easy to share products by sending links. Demonstrates creativity and allows the user to incorporate multiple items (i.e. text, pictures, videos, links, sounds).
  •
Site lets users create online, multimedia "posters" about a desired topic. This site could function for pre-learning at either the essential or generative level, depending upon the content added to the presentation. At the essential level, users could post samples and important terms. At the generative, prompts or questions could be included to promote application of knowledge. The site is reasonably easy to learn and free, and users can include images, text, graphics, audio, or video elements, making for a complete multimedia presentation.
  •
*Create interactive online posters *Glogster is where creativity and technology meet. It gives students opportunities to creatively present material.
  •
Glogster is an alternative to the typical two-dimensional posters and PowerPoints that have been the staple of research projects for years. "Glogs" are posters that students can create online to demonstrate their learning about a variety of topics using many different types of media to present their information. This tool definitely allows for active cognitive learning as students are able to choose not only the content to add to their Glog, but also the forms of media to be used on that Glog. The student can choose to use video, sound, pictures, and many other media forms to present content, but they have to remember not to overcrowd their Glog with too much information or too much media.
  •
This online tool lets you create a poster with embedded video, audio, images and text. I have yet to explore this web tool, so I am choosing it to force myself to experience a powerful and engaging learning tool for my presentation.
  •
Teachers, improve the future with a new way of teaching! Glogster EDU is a collaborative online learning platform for teachers and students to express their creativity, knowledge, ideas and skills in the classroom. This is an education-safe online environment where teachers can add classes to assign projects using Glogster. Students can use this multimedia tool to explore presentations previously made on a variety of subjects and topics, as well as creating their own glogs.
  •
Glogster allows learners to create an interactive poster, in which they post images, text, music and videos. They can also include links to other websites, including other glogs, to make their project more comprehensive. When used to create a project, this is a deeply learner-centered technology, as it requires a great deal of both behavioral and cognitive activity. Viewing it as part of the workshop will require both kinds of activity as well.

The video uses a learner-centered approach to technology because according to Mayer, it does "compliment human abilities, aid activities that we are poorly suited and enhances the development for which we are ideally suited" (Mayer, 2009, p. 13)." The required active engagement for this video is cognitive because the focus in the video is on the meaning of the presented material and interprets it in light of prior knowledge, YouTube-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hlgGpVpgWo YouTube provides a video presentation on a "SMART Board Interactive White Board Accessibilities." This video presentation provides teachers with information on how to make the SMART Board accessible to all students. The video uses a learner-centered approach to technology because it "takes in account the learners information processing (Mayer, 2009, p. 9)." The three web sites that I selected that include multimedia artifacts for active learning: 1) http://www.learner.org/ The learner.org website is a cognitive activity. This web site accomplishes the learner-centered approach. The web site focuses on using multimedia technology as an aid to human cognition (Mayer, p. 13 2009). It uses film clips to demonstrate the practical applications of various mathematical concepts to real life situations. It builds a connection of what the students are studying to a concrete example (visual) to create a clearer mental picture form prior knowledge to new knowledge that is being discovered. 2) http://pearsonmylabandmastering.com/ The My Lab web site is a behavioral activity. This web site accomplishes the learner-centered approach. The web site focuses on rewarding students for the correct responses (excellent) or punished for the incorrect ones (try again). The underlying metaphor is that of drill-and-practice system, so multimedia is a vehicle for rewarding correct responses and punishing incorrect ones (Mayer, p.15, 2009). A student receives immediate feedback positive or negative and strengthens a response system to proceed or provide reinforcement of the content. 3) http://webgraphing.com/ The web graphing web site is a cognitive activity. This web site accomplishes the learner-centered approach. The web site provides engagement between the student and the graphing calculator. Multimedia learning is a sense-making activity in which the learner seeks to build a coherent mental representation from the presented material (Mayer, p. 17, 2009). The students actively engage with the graphing calculator along with the teacher

On this website, there are tutorials where users can learn how to use the iPad. This website goes through many of the basic features that a user would need such as setting up email accounts, downloading applications, and setting up usability functions as needed. Users contribute to the site and offer suggestions such as using the iPad with a SmartBoard in the classroom. According to Mayer (2001), this website would rely on delivery media to present the cognitive activity. The media shows users how to complete tasks using their iPad device. Users can take these tutorials and apply their new knowledge in the future, but are not actually working or completing behavioral tasks while focusing on the content.
  •
The purpose of this site is to offer tutorials, tips, and training on the iPad. Topics include how to use the iPad, apps, and accessories.

Prezi - 5 views

Prezi is a web-based presentation tool using a map layout and zooming to show contextual relationships.
  • ...13 more comments...
  •
Although Prezi is advertised as a presentation device, it works really well to graphically present information, so I prefer it as a graphic organizer. Prezi provides a medium to allow words to flow, enabling the user to zoom in to information "hidden" as a subcategory within the main points. This is a very exciting new program, which I have gladly paid a subscription for! There remain some gltiches in publishing, such as to wordpress, or from the desktop application.
  •
Prezi allows a user to create a presentation that encompasses many of the same features of programs like PowerPoint. However, the presentation style of the elements follows more of a mind map design rather than a linear slideshow. The presentation tool is housed online, can be access for free, and makes it easy to integrate various forms of multimedia. The tools available at Prezi are advantageous for developing stylish online presentations and for facilitating continued review of materials, non-linear formats for reasoning, and building connections among concepts. Prezi can promote both essential and generative processing by allowing users/viewers to independently explore and develop connections among concepts.
  •
*Create slide presenations on the web. *Prezi makes slide sharing much more powerful as you are able to zoom in on specific areas of a slide for emphasis.
  •
Create presentations online. Import PPT or Keynote slides. Up to 1G for free
  •
This online presentation software allows multiple users a blank canvas to create dynamic presentations. I chose it because you can import slides from a slide show or a PowerPoint presentation and use its animation capabilities to easily create a more visually appealing presentation.
  •
Prezi is an online presentation creation site. The site allows you to create presentation that zoom in and out, include imported items, and the show the presentation on or offline. The creative potential is placed in the hands of the learner. This site was chosen over the others because it offers more features.
  •
Use Prezi to create professional quality presentations. Create maps of texts, images, videos, PDFs, drawings and present in a nonlinear way. Reuse images or the content of entire slides from easy to use galleries. You can access them from any computer and collaborate on a centralized web document.
  •
    * Brief description of Web site: A free cloud based presentation software that opens up a new world between whiteboards and slides and makes a presentation 'zoom.' *Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found: Besides the fact that this is a free resource, can create presentations to present online or offline, import various media (i.e. PowerPoint presentations, YouTube videos) into presentations, and collaborate in real time with other users.
  •
This is a great presentation tool, allowing user to create and share presentation online and offline. Prezi is one of the pest presentation tools I have found, as it allows the import of various multimedia materials, including PowerPoint slides, images, videos, pdf files. Also, it facilitates the creation of storylines using frames. The site also includes access to millions of prezis created by other users on various topics.
  •
Prezi (http://prezi.com/) allows the user to create a dynamic presentation using words, pictures, special relationships and movement to create an interactive presentation. Prezi's can be downloaded or saved on in the users account until the presentation. The user can also allow others to view their presentation or keep them private. Prezi is a free site in which interactive presentations are made possible. Prezi is much more dynamic than a PowerPoint presentation and as long as you have internet access you do not have to worry about the computer you are using having the same version of PowerPoint.
  •
This is an interesting take on PowerPoint. Presentations are organized by paths and an hierarchy of the size of the text entered.
  •
Unlike most presentation software, Prezi does a good job of organizing and sharing ideas, while drawing a clear connection between content. When explaining production elements it helps to be able to see the whole picture from script to distribution. Prezi offers the ability to focus on each part and zoom out to view the full picture.
  •
    * Prezi is a web based presentation tool similar to PowerPoint slides, except with a non-linear format that makes it fun to create and present ideas along with making connections between them. Prezi is also a tool for demonstrating new information to enhance the learning process along with providing mobile sharing and collaborative resources.
    * I found Prezi to be better than other presentation websites because it is more effective at creating engaging presentations and works from any device with Internet browsing capabilities, which will enhance the possibilities for teachers in my workshop to utilize different mobile devices during my presentation.
  •
What it is: Prezi is an online presentation software that allows collaboration among multiple users to create unique multimedia presentations. Why it's better: Instead of a traditional slide presentation, Prezi provides a platform to create presentations that are as creative as each individual user. Images, sounds, videos, and text can all be mixed together to create the most effective presentation possible.
  •
Prezi is a presentation tool that can either be created online or offline. It offers collaboration among users and has zoom features to highlight information. Presentations can be viewed from a desktop, iPad, or iPhone. One way that Prezi can be used for essential learning is to segment a presentation to make it learner-paced. This website offers a better product for keeping learners engaged.

Graphic Organizer Web Site #1 - Webspiration - 2 views

  •
Webspiration allows the user to create various forms of mindmaps with unlimited design features. The website allows users to work individually or collaboratively online. It also gives you the opportunity to visualize your ideas creatively. All work can also be downloaded and printed if needed. I chose this site because it is very user friendly and can keep the learners interested with its hands-on capabilities.
  • ...10 more comments...
  •
Brief Description: Webspiration is a website that allows individuals to brainstorm ideas, collaborate with peers from any location, and visual concepts of importance. Brief Explanation: Webspirations presents the learners with various opportunities to create an outline before working on the final project, to create diagrams or graphic organizers, and lastly the opportunity to connect with group members despite of their locations.
  •
Assignment, Module 3 - Mywebspiration.com is a free, web-based visual thinking tool that allows users to creatively organize and map mental connections.  One advantage of this site is it converts your mind map bubbles into an outline (and vice versa) format to assist in the writing process.  Users can add color, rapid fire links, and graphics to their work.  Also, the site provide easy-to-use templates to aid in formatting styles.  Collaboration has been made easy as it automatically saves and stores the product online.  It is a wonderful brainstorming tool.
  •
Webspiration is an online version of the software Inspiration. It is very simple to use to create your own graphic organizers. If could be used to create custom graphic organizers for your presentation and easily shared with the participants through Google Docs or a simple .jpg. Webspiration allows for the create to generate their own customized graphic organizer, many of the other graphic organizer websites do not allow you to customize them. This is an example of essential learning since the learner organizes their new learning in a way that is best for them, thus moving the learning into the working memory.
  •
Webspiration is an easy to use concept mapping resource which allows users to design and manage their own learning webs. Compared to other similar programs, this site is very similar to Inspiration, and Kidspiration, used frequently in elementary schools. Final products can be easily shared, saved and downloaded into other media such as Word documents, Google Docs, and also can be used for collaboration. Various designs allow learners to individualize their maps according to their needs.
  •
On this site, users are able to create graphic organizers from brainstorming sessions. Similar to other online sites, multiple users are able to collaborate on a single graphic organizer. I chose this site because of the ease of use and the collaboration options.
  •
This website is another example of Graphic organizers that can be used collaboratively by the instructor and learners or by learners who are working on collaborative assignments.
  •
What it does: Allows you to build a mind map organizer of your thoughts, plans, or ideas. Why this one: It is free. It is very intuitive and user friendly. It allows for collaboration. You can protect it so only those you authorize can change it. Learning benefits: For essential learning, it provides an outline and overview. For generative learning, it allows a learner to branch off into possibilities and extensions. It also can help the user organize their thoughts and ideas.
  •
In my workshop, the participants will use this site to create a graphic organizer to help them organize their notes as they navigate the workshop. The mywebspiration site is strong on active processing (Mayer, 2009) as the user must take in the material and actively process it in order to produce the synthesis of the information in the form of a mindmap.
  •
Webspiration is a great website that allows you to create graphic organizers. It is free, easy to use, and very useful. I like this web resource because it is easy to use and creates very nice graphic organizers.
  •
The Webspiration free site offers users the ability to build a mind map to organize thoughts, plans, and ideas for any subject. \nWhy this one: The mind maps help foster collaboration among teachers. The program allows the user to complete outlines associated for each organizer ensuring essential learning. The teacher is able to organize their thoughts and ideas providing the learner with additional activities associated with generative learning.\n
  •
This site allows you to create custom graphic organizers. There are many templates and lots of clip art to choose from. I like this site because you can upload your graphic organizer as a word document or save it to a web page that others can access.
  •
    * Webspiration allows a teacher to create a free Webspiration classroom. The site allows users to create collaborative mind maps that lend themselves to generative learning.

This interactive graphic organizer allows participants to create a storyboard for their media sample. The process of generating and organizing ideas on a graphic organizer fosters generative learning as participants reflect on personal experience and new knowledge to create an authentic product. This site demonstrates a unique teaching tool while promoting the editing process to adult participants. It is easy to use, printable, and shared in multiple formats.

Tagxedo - 0 views

  •
Turns anything you want inot visually stunning tag cloud, words individually sized appropriately to highlight the frequencies of occurrence within the body of text. This was a great site, gave many options to upload from, also had gallery to choose the orientation of your word cloud. My participants can use this as a visual along with their videos they create.
  •
Tagxedo is a site that creates word clouds from user inputs. The site will convert a block of text to a word cloud, which can be transformed into a variety of shapes. Words that occur more frequently appear larger in the cloud. Teachers can use this for pre-training to present key terms. Based on the size of the words, learners can determine the key terms for the content they are learning, as well as important words associated with those key terms. The teacher can manipulate the text to place emphasis on the words of their choice. A feature of Tagxedo that distinguishes it from other sites is the feature that allows the user to upload an image and form the word cloud using she shape of that image. A teacher could use this possibility to further emphasize an important key term or concept. This site can be used for essential learning by providing learners with knowledge of key terms prior to the lesson, freeing important space in working memory for the processing of other information.
  •
    * Tagxedo is a great way to make "word clouds" from websites and different social networks in real-time by customizing the font, theme, color, orientation, and shape. Tagxedo is an excellent resource to use when introducing new content material, because of the ability to use Internet web addresses and other media that can be added to the word cloud.
    * I found Tagxedo to be better than other "word cloud" websites because it is effective at using paragraphs of text to highlight key vocabulary and has many options to create a better-finished product that can be transferred to other mediums.
