Carpenters Middle poetry students share at coffeehouse - 10 views

    Poetry Reading/Coffeehouse
  •
Thank you for sharing this article. We held a "coffee house" poetry presentation last year at our middle school and it was wonderful. We plan to do it again and I am always looking for ideas. We held ours during the school day and had tables with table clothes and battery operated candles. We incorporated some beatnik themes - some of us wore berets and we had the students snap instead of clap. It was great fun.

Is Video Game School Training a Generation of Professional Princess Rescuers? | Design ... - 17 views

  • Is this really necessary? And how promising is it?
  •
A very well-intentioned, but ignorant piece on the role of video games in the classroom. Non-educators should stay out of the education arena and write what they know about!! "On the other hand, does it really take a videogame to make learning fun? Surely, there are better ways, which are less likely to be dated the second they're finished."

Educational software that teaches students computer programming in a 3D environment ... for free!
  •
This is a superb resource for making 3D storyboards and animations. The programme is a little complicated and is designed to be used by older children. It feels similar to Google SketchUp and it will have your class enthralled for hours with creative writing and animating fun. A large download, but worth it. http://ictmagic.wikispaces.com/Video%2C+animation%2C+film+%26+Webcams

MHS Lip Dub to "Firework" - 16 views

  •
Magnolia High School (Magnolia, TX), which happens to be where I went to high school once upon a time, created a very cool and inspiring lip dub to Katy Perry's "Firework". The quality is not amazing or high tech, but it doesn't matter. Watch the students. See how much fun they had. The sense of pride and community is almost tangible.

No more pencils, no more books: this Vancouver school has embraced iPads, iPods and apps - 107 views

"For students attending one of Vancouver's most popular public schools, the classroom is an exciting world of iPads, iPods, apps, laptops and SmartBoards. Even the youngest children at Elsie Roy elementary in Yaletown are using iPads as they learn to write the letters of the alphabet, pull them together into words and tackle basic addition and subtraction with colourful and interactive applications that make learning feel like fun."
