This piece describes how genre is effective in reading and other forms of rhetoric. It can allow readers to get deeper into text, and understand the form of communication on paper. Similarly to genres in movies and TV, genre in written works allow a reader to get the sense of what is "going on". Reading more and more, a reader is able to understand and decipher which genre is which. They also enable readers to connect emotionally to a text, and experience feelings of the writer/characters.

This article could be helpful for anyone hoping to work in communications or as an entrepreneur in the future.  It thoroughly explains how companies make money by using free social medias including Facebook and twitter (even providing visual examples).  Due to the increase of people online, and on social networking websites these tips can largely increase profitability and communication clarity of any public company.  They may also help with the media episodes project whilst trying to create and market social media to a specific audience.   

This is an article that I had to read for another one of my classes but I thought it also fit well here. This article speaks about how social media has impacted friendship, community, and social circles and how they have changed from their original meaning to what we know them as today. It touches on how, as a society, our understanding of intimacy has altered, our understanding of ourselves has changed and how our idea of 'knowing someone' has transformed all due to the impacts of social media.

This article is in the perspective of a blogger who decided to switch from Wordpress to Tumblr and his experience with it. The main point of this article is how Tumblr can connect the world with one single social media platform. It emphasizes how little can say much more. It first starts out with Tumblr's current good aspects, and later details the future of Tumblr.

As much as we think that interviewers are trying to pull information from us, they are also delivering us interviewees with a wealth of information. Martin discusses, briefly in this article, that the majority of the information and interviewer delivers you with is at the beginning, either directly or indirectly. Therefore, it is vital to be extremely attentive and listen as much as, or more than you plan to speak. Key takeaways: Interviewing is a cultivated skill that not everyone has at the beginning of their job-hunting career. The presence of non-verbal communication is also something that is learned through experience and cannot necessarily be taught.

Similar to the example given in class early in the semester about the young boy who asked for donations because of a disorder he had, this article also involves Reddit and users donating money to help those in need. The article is an example of concept of imagined communities. It features that idea of people from all over the world being unified because they read something on the same website and thus sharing an experience together by helping the orphanage.

A commentary on the negative effects social media has on people. The article is saying that social media is hinders the way we communicate with others, instead of communicating with a person face to face we are more inclined to do it over other means. It also speaks about other problems social media might have like cyber bullying.

This article discusses the pros and cons of the current lifestyle we live in a social-mediated world. People are learning new ways to "speak" with shorter-slanged words, and more concisely; and even using photos to communicate with others (through photo sharing platforms). Users are also over sharing their private lives with the world on social platforms, not realizing that almost anyone can see and read what they are putting out there.

This article deals with website design and what to make note of when designing, as most first-time visitors will give you less than five seconds to "wow" them, making the aesthetics a vital part of reeling in customers. The website must be both visually appealing to your targeted demographic as well as communicate important things to know.

This article covers website aesthetics. Clara Teoh advises web designers to design their websites with: the preferences of their target demographic in mind, the right tone  to focus on designing the layout of the website to capture the attention of users by choosing appropriate colours and  correctly sized buttons. She also says to compare your site using other successful websites as benchmarks. She goes on to say that site aesthetics even affect variables like conversion rates and sales for businesses.  

This article speaks to the effects of listening to the radio compared to watching TV, surfing the web, or doing none of the above. Radio, according to this survey, makes people happier and gives them more energy as they go about their lives everyday when compared to people that watch television, people that use the internet, and people that consume no media at all. Could this be because of how engaged it forced us to be? 

This article relates to the prior discussion of "blindness" experienced by radio listeners.  To elaborate, radio is a simple form of media which can thus produce a more intimate relationship between host and listener.  Radio hosts often seem to have more authentic personalities vs those on other forms of media, which makes content more friendly and familiar to listen to.  This article reflects upon positive emotions experienced by listeners vs those experienced by other media.  

This article touches on several ways to take a story from good to great including engaging all of the readers/listeners senses, writing at your own level, and tapping into the emotions of your audience. All seven tactics can be used in all kinds of writing and would be especially helpful in the world of narratives as they would help the audience feel immersed in what they are reading of listening to.

Tips like listening to your own show to find ways to improve, be yourself behind the mic, and don't over edit can be helpful for anyone. This article discusses and clarifies the ideas of virtual realities. This site also provides a very helpful video on the first page, called "The Internet of Things". The video gives great visuals and examples to help solidify the concepts surrounding virtual realities. Very interesting, hope you like it!

This short video talks about how the internet, mainly Google, is changing the way we think and how we learn. The main point being that we finally have an unlimited amount of information literally at our fingertips but this ability has made our brains work differently so we cannot absorb the information that is so easily accessible. It brings up the interesting topic of how this technology and social media is changing the way we work as humans and leads us to question where it will take us.

This contains a list of Disney movies that have used plots from movies, songs, and books in the public domain. This makes me question how many other movies outside of Disney have followed suit in taking ideas from public domain. Is there actually any original inventive ideas?

This article is about the intellectual property law regarding the visual arts where a French photographer is claiming copyright infringement because of another artist's manipulation of the original piece without breaking any intellectual property laws. The exemption of transformative nature allowed for the modification of pieces just as mashups find the loophole in the copyright law.

This is describing the new intellectual property law Spain is enforcing in order to receive money from search engines such as Google for providing results of content that is copyrighted. Spain are one of many European countries implementing laws such as this one.

Canada has a political party called the Pirate Party which has existed since 2009, in which exists to attempt and loosen the laws regarding copyright and the movement of content. 

Panel discussions are a great opportunity to derive a diverse wealth of information in a short amount of time. What differentiates a good panel discussion from a great one is an effective moderator. Much of the panel discussion's success is attributed to the panel moderator. Key takeaways: This article focuses on the effects of how a good moderator can impact a panel discussion. A good moderator is a person who is responsible, aware, organized and a strong speaker. It's important that moderators differentiate themselves from the panelists but at the same time, also make the effort to create a connection between the moderator, panelists and the audience.

This article puts Twitter and education together and demonstrates that both can be connected to create a much more valuable and rich educational experience. The teacher in this article used Twitter to strengthen students' current knowledge as well as build a growing library of material for future lessons.
