I don't know how this bookmark got here? Chalk it up to learning. I did sticky note it and then thought I x'd the mark entirely (overwhelming to even look at...!) - but maybe some will find it useful

Twitter as a Personal Learning Network (PLN) | What's New in the World? - 3 views

  • Personal Learning Networks are all the rage at the moment. As with a lot of “modern” things, they’re existed for a long time but have now got a snappy new name. It used to be called “advice from friends and colleagues”. But in the era of social media the word friend has taken on a new meaning. Social media has provided me with a lot of friends who I’ve never met and never spoken to. I’ve exchanged a few tweets with them, commented on or received comments on a blog article, or maybe read a few forum posts, and as a result these people are, in Web 2.0-speak, friends. A PLN can take advantage of lots of different services – Facebook is perhaps the best-known, Ning is also very popular and offers The Educator’s PLN, but there are lots of others, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Of all the available services, the one I find the most fascinating (and the most useful) is Twitter. One of the most interesting things I learned about Twitter before I even tried it was that it is like Marmite. It polarises.

Web Searches, DOE, and Diigo-Oh My! « Amy's Blog - 4 views

  • Bookmarks and favorites were all that I knew, Until I began studying EME5050’s module # 2! I explored Delicious to share and store my websites But decided to go with Diigo, because it looked and felt “right” A few pros about Diigo that intrigued me so— Was how easy it looked to research and grow! Collaboration could be one click aWay, To share information with a group any day. I also liked that Diigo could be shared all around I see myself sharing bookmarks and websites I’ve found. One more feature of Diigo that I find cool, Is the highlighting and note-taking tool! It will allow me to highlight with care, While the website can be open to share. So I have found a new Way for my bookmarks to store, And I feel like this is opening a door. I am allowing other professionals to share in turn, While I’m building a bond with others to grow and learn.

You obviously could not get something to rhyme with ''get annotated link' is f***ing brilliant!' Nice poem though!

"Sure, Twitter is banal and trivial, full of self-promotion and outright spam. So is the Internet. The difference between seeing Twitter as a waste of time or as a powerful new community amplifier depends entirely on how you look at it - on knowing how to look at it."

Still Learning: Next Installment on Diigo - 4 views

  • This is only one example of many where they read each other's ideas and built their own thoughts on them. I was thrilled. We started class the next day just skimming the play -- I asked them to notice who had a moral dilemma so far just by looking at where the annotations were. They could SEE that every character so far had some kind of dilemma. We were on a roll ...
  • Our work started out well. We read in class a section of Antigone, and that night, they annotated spots where they saw characters developing moral dilemmas (these dilemmas are our entry point into the play -- we will eventually write compare/contrast essays on modern moral dilemmas and what we can learn from ancient dilemmas -- more on that later!). Here is an example of one of their comment threads (with their typos and all!) on this quote from Antigone to Ismene, "Yes, I'll do my duty to my brother -- / and your as well, if you're not prepared to. / I won't be caught betraying him.

I started using queri.ac not so long ago, was a yubnub.org fan, and still am a BIG fan, but the fact that all the commands you create must be public and that you can't delete them makes me very prudent. With queri.ac I can create as many as I want and keep them private (eg.: in case I've made a stupid mistake) PS: I still use yubnub though queriac (eg: like this one tr2 =) ... because yubnub is YUBNUB!
