Why should you care about net neutrality? - 1 views

  •
CBR lists 7 reasons why you should care about net neutrality. Net neutrality is the principle that ISP's and governments should treat all data on the internet as equal. This means that there should be no discrimination or charging of separate rates to different users, content, sites, platforms or applications.

How to deal with fake/negative Google reviews? Now that you know how to get Google business reviews, it is time to learn how to deal with fake or negative ones. Don't respond: Google reviews are an important part of your SEO strategy, but responding too often and/or aggressively can make people see you as spammy and unprofessional. If someone has lodged a complaint against your business via Google, then do not respond in any way other than by removing the review from their record (if possible). Otherwise, keep moving forward with what works best for your company! Don't ask for positive reviews: If someone leaves a negative review on one of your products or services because they were unhappy with the service provided by the company itself (i.e., customer service), then don't stress over whether they would change their tune if they had received better treatment from a different employee during their visit; instead focus on improving upon any issues that arise so that next time around no one will leave anything except praise where there should be none at all! Conventional sewage treatment plant - 0 views

  •
Conventional sewage treatment plant involves three stages, called primary, secondary and tertiary treatment. First, with conventional sewage treatment plant the solids are separated from the wastewater stream. Then dissolved biological matter is progressively converted into a solid mass by using indigenous, water-borne micro-organisms. Finally, the biological solids are neutralized then disposed of or re-used, and the treated water may be disinfected chemically or physically (for example by lagoons and microfiltration). The final effluent can be discharged into a stream, river, bay, lagoon or wetland, or it can be used for the irrigation of a golf course, green way or park. If it is sufficiently clean, it can also be used for groundwater recharge or agricultural purposes Pre-treatment Pre-treatment conventional sewage treatment plant removes the materials that can be easily collected from the raw wastewater and disposed of. The typical materials that are removed during pre treatment include fats, oils, and greases (also referred to as FOG), sand, gravels and rocks (also referred to as grit), larger settleable solids and floating materials (such as rags and flushed feminine hygiene products). Pre treatment also typically includes a sand or grit channel or chamber where the velocity of the incoming wastewater is carefully controlled to allow sand grit and stones to settle, while keeping the majority of the suspended organic material in the water column. Sand, grit, and stones need to be removed early in the process to avoid damage to pumps and other equipment in the remaining treatment stages.

Digital Hearing Aid - 0 views

  •
Digital hearing aid is a hearing device that receives sound and digitizes it (breaks sound waves up into very small, discrete units) prior to amplification. And it built-in intelligence that allows them to discern between soft, but desirable sounds and louder, but unwanted noise. Such devices can amplify the former while neutralizing the latter for better performance in a variety of environments. They can divide into two categories, one is the programmable hearing aid and another one is the non-programmable hearing aid. For digital hearing aid, "Channels" and "Bands" which are also some of the most misunderstood by users. A band is what is used to control volume in different frequencies and channels break up the frequency range into individual channels. In short, more bands and channels provide you with a more granular sound quality. We can see 2 Channels, 4 Channels, 6 Channels, 8 Channels and even 32 Channels digital hearing aid sound amplifier on the market, more channels will more accurate.

Air Balancing in Ventilation Systems DESIGN | BUILDING CODE | HVAC | VENTILATION | AIR ... - 0 views

  •
Air balancing is a fundamental design skill for HVAC engineers and consultants. Depending on the intended purpose of each building area, it may require negative, positive or neutral pressurization. This is accomplished by adjusting supply and exhaust airflows: a higher air supply causes positive pressure, while a higher air exhaust causes negative pressure. Although the ideal scenario would be to ventilate all building areas naturally, this is not possible in practice. For example, there is no way to use natural ventilation in areas that are completely surrounded by other rooms, as well as in underground levels. The purpose of ventilation can range from human comfort to facility safety: ventilation in residential and commercial settings is focused on delivering air of breathable quality, while industrial ventilation is often deployed to keep dangerous gases away from certain areas or below a certain concentration.

  • I clicked on it and found a step-by-step guide by Andre ‘Serling’ Segers at ign.com. After reading the Basics, I clicked on Walkthrough, which contains detailed instructions with screen shots for each step of the game. I went to my Diigo toolbar and clicked "bookmark." I entered the following tags: zelda, wii, guide, and video-games. I then printed out the guide to Part 1 and went back to my living room to play. After I completed Part 1 I went back to my computer where I saw that the Diigo widget in my Netvibes ecosystem had a link to the Zelda guide. I clicked on the link, found Part 2, printed it, and continued playing. Here is the complete process, repeated.
  • each of the online tools-each of the Web 2.0 technologies-I used during this process is as much a semiotic domain as Zelda itself. They are filled with, to borrow from Gee’s list, written language, images, equations, symbols, sounds, gestures, graphs, and artifacts. Consider, for example, the upper left section of the Netvibes RSS reader that I use-and asked students to use:
  • ...10 more annotations...
  • how to use them within the context of a particular action: finding, retrieving, storing, and re-accessing a certain bit of information
  • Only recently, with the pervasiveness of social bookmarking software (such as Del.icio.us and Diigo) and the ubiquity of RSS feed readers (such as Google Reader and Netvibes), have technologies been available for all internet users to compose their own dynamic storage spaces in multiple interconnected online locations.
  • These dynamic storage spaces each contain what Jay David Bolter (2001) calls writing spaces-online and in-print areas where texts are written, read, and manipulated. Web 2.0 technologies are replete with multiple writing spaces, each of which has its own properties, assumptions, and functions
  • If we can see these spaces as semiotic domains, then we must also see them as spaces for literacy-a literacy that is a function of the space’s own characteristics.
  • [T]echnological literacy . . . refers not only to what is often called "computer literacy," that is, people’s functional understanding of what computers are and how they are used, or their basic familiarity with the mechanical skills of keyboarding, storing information, and retrieving it. Rather, technological literacy refers to a complex set of socially and culturally situated values, practices, and skills involved in operating linguistically within the context of electronic environments, including reading, writing, and communicating. The term further refers to the linking of technology and literacy at fundamental levels of conception and social practice. In this context, technological literacy refers to social and cultural contexts for discourse and communication, as well as the social and linguistic products and practices of communication and the ways in which electronic communication environments have become essential parts of our cultural understanding of what it means to be literate.
  • I teach a portion of a team-taught course called Introduction to Writing Arts that is now required for all Writing Arts majors. In groups of 20 students rotate through three four-week modules, each of which is taught by a different faculty member. My module is called Technologies and the Future of Writing. Students are asked to consider the relationships among technology, writing, and the construction of electronic spaces through readings in four main topic areas: origins of internet technologies, writing spaces, ownership and identities, and the future of writing.
  • how can we prepare students for the kinds of social and collaborative writing that Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 technologies will demand in the coming years? How can we encourage students to create environments where they will begin to see new online writing spaces as genres with their own conventions, grammars, and linguistics? How can we help students-future writers-understand that the technologies they use are not value neutral, that they exist within a complex, distributed relationship between humans and machines? And how can that new-found understanding become the basis for skills that students will need as they continue their careers and as lifelong learners?
  • so much of writing is pre-writing-research, cataloguing, organizing, note-taking, and so forth-I chose to consider the latter question by introducing students to contemporary communication tools that can enable more robust activities at the pre-writings stage.
  • I wanted students to begin to see how ideas-their ideas-can and do flow between multiple spaces. More importantly, I wanted them to see how the spaces themselves influenced the flow of ideas and the ideas themselves.
  • The four spaces that I chose create a reflexive flow of ideas. For example, from their RSS feed reader they find a web page that is interesting or will be useful to them in some way. They bookmark the page. They blog about it. The ideas in the blog become the basis for a larger discussion in a formal paper, which they store in their server space (which we were using as a kind of portfolio). In the paper they cite the blog where they first learned of the ideas. The bookmarked page dynamically appears in the social bookmark widget in their RSS reader so they can find it again. The cycle continues, feeding ideas, building information, compounding knowledge in praxis.

Diigo on Wikipedia - 1 views

    • Diigo is a website which allows users to bookmark and tag websites. It also allows users to highlight all or part of a page and attach sticky notes to the page. These annotations can be kept private, shared with a group within Diigo or a special link forwarded to someone else. The name "Diigo" is an abbreviation for "Digest of Internet Information, Groups and Other stuff".[1] The launch of Diigo met with mixed responses from the unimpressed [2] to the enthusiastic [3]. The product is still capable of further development such as that comprehensively detailed by a Diigo user at [4] but response on whole has been positive an example of which can be seen in the comparison between several social bookmarking sites on IA-Blog [5] Diigo beta was listed as one of the top 10 research tools by CNET in 2006 [6].
