I chose to do this page on balance because it wasn't mainly focused on text. It had a main focus on videos. The balance on the page lies in the way the videos are formatted which causes a visual path in which the user is directed to them. This page is not too formal so the symmetric alignment of is not the biggest contribution to the balance. I believe what really makes it is the layout of the page is the way that the different search options are left justified and guides the readers eyes to the videos below. Also the genres on the right take up the additional white space on the page allowing for a fuller looking page. 

This website discusses the format and purpose of a formal report. The different kinds of professionals that use this report need to know who the intended readers are.

This website contained a lot of information that just gave an overview on the basics of formal reports. It also explained how formal reports differ from an informal way of reporting information. It also split a formal report into 3 sections that I did not see in the other website I found. In this one it states that there is front matter, main text, and back matter. Each of these contains different sections within as well. Very helpful for when we have to work on Project #3!

I like this website because it gives you good explanation on different things you need in a good report. It talks about the front matter like front cover. tittle page, contents page and summary. Also about the main text like introduction, discussion, conlcusion. Back matter is also important with the appendices and glossary.

A page on teaching what design flow is and how it works. Teaches you how to keep the reader's eye and make them follow the 'flow'.

This is a good website to help you understand what flow is and the different types of flow. It talks about verbal flow and visual flow. It also goes on to explain how to improve your verbal flow and your visual flow.

This webpage incorporates more details about many key aspects of flow that were also mentioned in chapter seven. There are tips to improving visual and verbal flow within a page and also how to add flow across an entire site involving many pages.

Design Meltdown has yet another great explanation of design principles, this time for the principle of flow. The explanation incorporates great visual examples.

This page give multiple page layout examples and then superimposes over them to show the flow of the layout. It also discusses the different flow of each example to help us understand how it works

talks about flow as a simple design principle and how it is often a result of contrast and emphasis. page also gives examples of pages and uses a blue arrow to demonstrate the path or flow of the page, just showing different ways pages and be perceived or organized

The home page of the Wall Street journal is a site that I think has adhered well to the good use of design principles we have discussed. Certain elements (location of links, tools, etc) are consistent, repeated no matter where your in-site browsing leads. It is always a simple matter to return the home page, and the content, though varied in topic and section, are placed and located in instantly comfortable page areas. The use of color and contrast to delineate different sections draw the eyes right where they need to be, and the fusion of advertising and written content is fused seamlessly. This website is nearly overflowing with all manner of content, yet the design and appearance of the home page is neither cluttered nor confusing. I believe this is an excellent example of the successful use of C.R.A.P. design elements.

Contrast- The use of red lettering for the title of the company and well for having a model as the background for the page. With centered bigger letters in the center of the page. With a small picture in the corner scrolling through. Repetition- This can be seen through the small font used for the links on this page. That's all though. Allignment- The menu on the left is all alligned to the left while the menu at the top is in a straight line that looks centered. And in the bottom right corner there's a picture box. Proximitiy- There's a lot of room on the page. There is hardly any pictures posted on here and the picture box that is shown is very small and takes up little room. Same goes for the links where the fonts are small and do not take up any room at all. *Note* There are advertising sustainable styles so I wonder if they were potraying that through the use of saving space?

This was a good example Alina. There wasn't too much content and it was aligned very well. Good choice.

Alignment in Page Layout

Summary:  This website is divided into 8 different pages and to view all you will need to click on the page numbers but it touches on all areas of alignment. The left, right, center,grid, visual or optical, hanging punctuation, and breaking alignment. 

In this weeks reading we learned about the various forms of alignment and how the grid system works in a design layout. This website touches on all that, gives great examples, but you will have to click on each page to view everything which is like 8 short pages.

I stumbled on this page while looking for information on dominance in a web page. As it turns out this whole site has a cornucopia of supplemental information that would probably help out later on in the term. But this page in particular is great because they show simple black and white, literally, diagrammed explanations of how the idea really works.

This web page discusses the concept of focal points, which is covered on page 26 in (Graham, 2005).

The flow of the page can be seen through the repetition of boxed information throughout the store page. The surrounding edge consisting of mainly text keeps the center of the page, filled with images, at focus with the flow of information/products

C- A. V. Club use the large image at the right of the screen to display the importance of the article compared to the smaller ones underneath it. R- On the navigation bar, repetition is use to show the different pages of the blog by changing the color but keeping the same font A- The web page uses left justification on each on of the columns. P- At the bottom of the page they separate the sites information links from everything else.

I like this site because it discusses all of the principles of design mentioned in chapter 1 of our textbook. It also discusses other principles that are not mentioned in the textbook such as continuance and alignment. Overall, very informational and helpful.

I thought this was a good site just because with all the priciples it describes it gives diagrams or drawings as examples to demostrate what they are talking about.

This page decribes similar or the same principles as the text. Aside from expanding on the explanation of each princple this page offers diagrams and drawings to try and help demonstrate what the princple is describing. Principles listed on page: *Balance *Rhythm *Proportion *Dominance *Unity Even though the principles may have different names than the text the way they describe them easily relates to the ones presented in the book.

I love the simplicity of this site. It has the skeleton of a normal site around the edges, but then smack dab in the center there is what looks like it could be a page straight out of a comic book. It definitely makes it look like you're in the right place. The makers of this site put emphasis on the iconic Buffy the Vampire Slayer logo. The logo leads you to the left side of the page where the Editor has his comments and then the eye can wander around the rest of the page for the information they came for.

The general construction of this page does a marvelous job of using contrast to liven up their page, as opposed to a more traditional news page which usually doesn't offer too much in way of color of format variation.

This page explains contrast and its importance when creating visual interest. It discusses examples of contrast in web page design and how contrast in color, size, and alignment can be achieved.

This is a great website that highlights the different aspects of contrast, including alignment, color, and size. It also gives examples of how each of these are used.

D#7, HW#6-- I thought this website was useful because it had a LOT of information about copyrights and the internet. It discusses plagiarism, how long copyrights last, and even what you can and can not do when creating a webpage. Great information to know for Project #2.

This web page does a great job at breaking it down simply. It explains what copyright is, how long it last, as well as what you can and cannot do with it. It specifically goes into what is copyrighted on the internet and what you can put on your page and what you cannot put on your page. This I believe would greatly benefit us for this class knowing what exactly we can and cannot do.

This stuff is really hard for me to understand. This is a definition to help if others are struggling.

This website gives an explanation about remediation and new media.  It also gives an explanation of how remediation is defined by predecessors like the television, radio and or old media like journals.  Media can interact with other kind of media by reproducing and replacing and making other changes.

I like how this article explains what remediation is and new media. This article talks about the double logic of remediation which are the process of remediation, remediation and reality, redmediation as reform.

I think that this is a really good resource. It lists a lot valid arguments for not doing or doing certain things as far as the design of your page goes. They detail why certain design elements are bad choices and how to avoid them. The site also contains a lot of images and videos that are examples of "web pages that suck." The website is pretty humorous, too.

One of the reasons WordPress is so popular is because of its flexibility. Designers, developers, and bloggers have plenty of options. In this post we'll look at a combination of tutorials for improving a WordPress-based site, and plugins that can provide added functionality that will bring new possibilities. Tutorials: Build a Featured Posts Section for WordPress Magazine themes are becoming increasingly popular. There are plenty of quality premium themes available, and also some decent free magazine themes, but you may want to build or customize your own. This tutorial covers the process of coding the index.php file to set up a magazine-style front page with a featured post section. - if you're willing to download all the plugins that are available from this site, you can really have the wordpress site look awesome and provide a lot more options.

This page has it all! Aside from just telling an explaining what we can do it provides screenshots so we get an idea of the "trick" to see is we might want it. This offers help anywhere from blog rolls to navigation to addding sideshows and tabs to your page. VERY resourceful.

This article is good because it provides tutorials on how to improve your blog.  For example, there are descent free magazines themes or you can build your own.  Also it gives techniques for seo and plug ins.
