Proteus Yard is a mythical goods yard serving a small industrial estate containing eight different industries. The layout uses the Trainz 1.3/UTC scripting to deliver a number of random trains of wagons which must be sorted and delivered to the various factories on the estate.
Happy to detail the Basic Portal setup that I have used to get 40 - 50 car consists emerging from, on the route I use on TRS2006. Please note that this is what works for me and therefore may not work for you.
The portal is sited on straight track that runs for nearly 3 baseboards with at least one (1) junction along the length of track and one 04 signal (absolute) protecting that junction.
The back end of the portal is 140 metres in from the far edge of the board in approximately the middle of the edge. The business end of the portal is approximately 1420 metres from the signal and the signal is a further 50 metres from the junction. From the junction to the join in the baseboard with the rest of the layout is another 210 metres approximately.
ou need to programme the commands you want when you set the trains up in the portal config box. The portal config box is opened when you select the ? of the scenery tab and click on your portal. All in surveyor of course.
To save you constructing lots of repetitive commands, you could set up a series of commands using the "schedule library" rule which you need to add to your session, and then activate the "copy commands from" in the driver commands. Both accessed via the "edit session rules" icon in surveyor. You can then use the "copy commands from" instruction in the portal dialog box to copy your pre-constructed commands over from the schedule library you set up previously
In Surveyor, under Main Menu, select Edit Session. In the window that appears, highlight the Portal Schedule rule and click on edit. There you can remove and add individual cars to a scheduled train.
__________
The alternative (if you must have that particular make up of train) is to investigate the rules that are available on the DLS. If I remember correctly, either the Central Portal Control (CPC) or UnPortal Rule can create a train at a trackmark without using a portal.
The Problem
The problem we get with single line routes is the AI will lock the junction out of a passing loop, meaning for you to gain access to pass the AI you have to stop the AI's commands so it will free the loop.
If you
Additionally, there are commands available that will check the status of industries, then once they need servicing you can have a train deliver to them or pick up from them.
You might check out atilabarut's message rules. Download these and read:
PostMessage,<kuid:131986:210002>
WaitForMessage,<kuid:131986:1029>
WaitForMessage,<kuid:131986:210005>
You can put these rules in the driver schedule without the need for programming expertise.
Have you tried this template?

Do a search on the DLS for CS_Yard and you will find it, CS_Yard Template_1 (KUID: 37522:9972). Lay your track along the template, then use the "straighten track" tool on the section in yellow sections like so, you will end up with this...

I use this one all the time to create yards.
Layout:
One baseboard, one straight track.
In order:
Where the loco starts
Trigger TR1
Trackmark TM1
Trackmark TM2
Trackmark TM3
(It helps to put a building alongside each trigger/trackmark so you know where they are when driving)
So if you are trying this out, please use Trigger rule instead of Trigger check
Unless you have managed to get it working with Trigger Check.. to me it appears to do nothing at all
Well yes. Central Portal Control lets the portal select a consist at random from a list that you provide when setting up the portal instructions. It will also emit in sequence if you so desire.
Likewise Portal Basic - default 'Emit Train' condition is a random train from an inputed list.
Both Portal Control options work well.
You can make life much easier by also using the Schedule Library available from the JS Trainz Rules Factory (among many other very useful utilities).
The Library enables schedules or part schedules to be named, saved and recalled. Saving much tedious repetition in setting up individual train schedules.

Two or more triggers, triggered in order?
How do I make two or more triggers work in order? So you could define the direction a train has to go over triggers to set a junction..
For anyone interested in this issue, the above solution actually does NOT work as intended. More on this in this thread: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=30085
I did however solve the bridge-signaling problem in another way, it's posted here: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=30147
