How to use Topo Maps in Trainz by colorado71 A. USING OF GLOBAL MAPPER 1. Configuration of Global Mapper Install Global Mapper on your computer. Download custom_shaders rar from http://trainz.uv.ro/tutorial/files/custom_shaders.rar Unpack the archive and copy the file custom_shaders.txt in the installation folder of Global Mapper. Run Global Mapper and select the option spectrum_trainz from "shader" bar on the program's tool bar. 2. Georeference your topo map Select the map (scanned map, satellite image, topo map etc.) you want to reproduce in trainz. You must know the geographical coordinates (latitude and longitude) of two points on it, so you can georeference it with Global Mapper. From the File Menu of Global Mapper select "Rectify (Georeference) Imagery" click OK and select your image. Open it and the dialog box "Image Rectifier" will appear. Zoom the image over the first point of which coordinates you know, select it, insert its latitudinal and longitudinal position as __/__/___ (for example 21/38/45) and press "add GCP to list." Proceed in the same manner with the second point. Save the image as GeoTIFF. 3. Select your future trainz map a) Open the map thus created with GlobalMapper. From the File Menu select "Export Raster and Elevation Data" - "Export GeoTIFF." In the dialog box which appear select "Export Bounds" and press "Draw a Box." Select the area of your future trainz map and save it as GeoTIFF. b) From the File Menu select "Download Online Imagery/Topo/Terrain Maps" (or simple open the DEM map for the area of your image map). Select the server from which you want to download the digital elevation map (http://seamless.usgs.gov/ or http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/ for example) and then press OK. From the File Menu select "Export Raster and Elevation Data" - "Export DEM," then select "Export Bounds" in the dialog box, and finally, press "Reset to Last Exported Bounds." B. USING OF MICRODEM 1.

Interactive map making? - TrainBoard.com - 0 views

Interactive map making? Computers & Trains John- I'd highly recommend the following link... USGS Geography: The National Map Click on the "Go To Viewer" on the left, and a map creator will open up in a new window. You can use the "layers" on the right side to turn various coverages (things like hillshade, railroads, highways, topo maps, etc.) on and off, and once you have the map the way you want it you can export it out as an Adobe file. I created most of the maps in the Along the Line section on McCloud Rails (McCloud Rails Home Page- McCloud River Railroad, McCloud Railway Company, McCloud River Lumber Company) and many of the maps on High Desert Rails (High Desert Rails) using this source. Trigger Multiple Signals - How? - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • You only need one rule and can set up multiple signals on one trigger in a single set up. In a session set up all the rules etc place a single engine and save the session as map rules. everytime you want to do a new session with the same rules you just open map rules place your consists and save as a different name. This means you wont have to keep setting up the rules everytime. __________________

Tutorial: Saving Custom Displacement Maps in TS2009 - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • OK, Here are the steps that I was able to take to save a custom displacement map from the displacement map window. 1. Open the Advanced section of the Topology panel. 2. Use the Select Area tool to choose an area of terrain on the route. 3. Click on the Get Displacement button. A greyscale image of your terrain should appear in the window. 4. Now click the tiny Save Displacement checkmark in the upper right of the new image. 5. Fill in the name and description for your new displacement map. You can repeat the process as much as you like. All the maps you create are real TS2009 assets and will show up in CM2 ready for you to upload to the DLS.

New technology DEM maps? - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • I would direct you to the GAURC forum where you can leave a message to Lars.
  • DEM's with Tiger lines appear to you, the builder, as a grid pattern with blue, red and other colored lines representing where track, roads and rivers are supposed to be.
  •
That took just 10 minutes and less than 40 mouse clicks to generate it. It comprised SRTM DEM terrain and Map Tile ground texture overlay.

Looking for a layout - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

Hey Boomer, you can also try kuids 207998:3591 and 207998:3602, which were later versions, BEWARE, read the information carefully to make sure you have the SG versions and which way round you have to merge the maps to get the full route. I played with it quite a bit before I obtained TC3, it's a fabulous route when you have it all set up.

AJS Junction Kit FAQ - Page 2 - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  •
I have a few pointers, I do these type of junctions daily * The most important tip is to place a JK Control Box object somewhere on the map. Without it, no animations will work. * I think it said in the manual that you should number the junctions from 1-4 in a clockwise manner while looking north. So basically, I put the Surveyor compass in such a way that I'm looking sl

Using real landscapes in fantasy routes? - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • I use track, Quad track, or 105' wide road spline, as a tool to make terrain, hills and mountains, by laying the spline points at varied heights, and then hit the smooth spline tool button. I later on adjust the terrain up and down, so it is not jagged, rough, or pitted

Creating & Saving a Scedule in Driver - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • Top left of screen, in dropdown surveyor menu select edit session, then in new window select driver commands, in next new window click on add then scroll down till you find schedule library select it and click on the green tick. You will also need the (copy commands from) command found the same way. Don't forget to name and save your schedule so you can recognise it next time you want to use it
  • Append attaches commands after commands that are already in the driver's command line, insert places a whole string of new commands.
  • I don't have TS2009 yet but since no one else has tried to help yet i'll give it a go. Once you have loaded the map you want you will have to place at least one loco before you can start a schedule. Placing the loco should aut

  • May I add a little note re the "append" and "insert" selection. I have used this method a few times and found some interesting results when applied to different types of Schedules.

more realistic AI-driver attitude - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • more realistic AI-driver attitude I would like to see (as an update to all Trainz-Versions or at least as part of any new Trainz-Version) more realistic artifical inteligenced drivers in Trainz.
  • As for the "Ball and Flag" system given in this and another thread, we have the "Wait for Trigger..." driver command, which, I admit, is hidden by default. Go into the driver commands rule to make it visible. With enough forethought, it behaves in exactly the same way, Just on triggers and has to be inserted for every driver using that single track. Though that only works with AI. Us humans have the layout map. Having these automated systems would be a help, but there are already driver commands that work the same way.
  • I agree that the shortest route thing is annoying as well. I've gotten around it by by placing a trackmark on the main track, and I use that when I'm programming the drivers. Another thing I've done is to place a freight car or two on the sidings to force the AI to take the mainline instead of driving through the yard. I agree with Stefan. The routing should be based on locale rather than built-in short-distance seeking algorithms, which I think cause a lot of overhead on the program because the AI system is constantly seeking for an open path. John
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • Similarly the idea of operating a train through a series of switch backs, switching industries, or turning a locomotive on a Wye (all referred to in item 4 in Stefan's original post) can be handled by way of trackmarks. In the case of a switchbacks, simply put a trackmark at each deadend point, so that setting up an AI driver on route with switchbacks becomes "drive to trackmarK 1" followed by "Drive to Trackmark 2", &c. Same way for industry switching and turning trains: assigning trackmarks allows for the dispatcher to provide directions to AI drivers to Drive to the Trackmark for Stefan's Warehouse and uncouple car 123456" then Driver to Trackmark for JCitron's warehouse via trackmark 3, and uncouple car 125789."
  • That remote control system (changing a junction from three miles away) can already be done with triggers or trackmarks (depending on which rule you use).
