Estrogen Receptor {beta}: Switching to a New Partner and Escaping from Estrogen -- Leun... - 0 views

  •
Study shows that estradiol decreases ER beta in the prostate. ER beta is anti-inflammatory, inhibits growth, and promotes cell death: all of which would decrease risk of prostate growth and/or cancer.   We know that men increase estrogen production through increased aromatase activity, which according to this study, will decrease ER beta and the prostate associated benefits.

Low-T3 Syndrome - 0 views

  •
low T3, not T4 or TSH, found to be associated with a strong predictor of death in cardiac patients.  This also has implications in predicting outcome in cardiac patients.

Expression of estrogen receptor β in prostate carcinoma cells inhibits invasi... - 0 views

  •
Study finds that ER beta inhibits invasion, proliferation and actually triggers cell death of prostate cancer cells.  This fits with the other data that loss of ER beta promotes carcinogenesis.

  •
Study finds that "midrange" Testosterone and DHT associated with a reduced ischemic heart disease and death rate.  No association was found with Estradiol.  One flaw of this study is in their use of serum.

Plasma testosterone in the general population, can... [Ann Oncol. 2014] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
prospective study of almost 9,000 men and women followed for 30 + years.  The study found that there was a significant increased risk of early death after diagnosis of cancer with higher levels of Testosterone.  The risk was increased by up to 80%.  The incidence of cancer was unchanged.  The study looked at total Testosterone via serum.  The study is limited due to its limited look at hormones.  Full Testosterone metabolism needs to be evaluated--including conversion to estrogens.  Inflammatory cytokines need to be assessed and men and women need to be assessed separately as their reactions to hormones are quite different.

In Older Men an Optimal Plasma Testosterone Is Associated With Reduced All-Cause Mortal... - 0 views

  •
Older men, 70-89, Testosterone in the middle range of normal and higher DHT was associated with the lowest death rates.  Estradiol was not found to be associated.  This study only looked at Total levels, free bioavailable levels were not assessed.  This study also highlights the basic thought, that more is not always better as it pertains to Testosterone.  It also highlights the importance of DHT.  Testosterone is a pro hormone.

Low Testosterone at Time of Transplant Is Independent... [J Urol. 2014] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
More and more, low Testosterone is clearly a marker of poor health in men.  This study finds that low T at the time of renal transplant is associated with increase graft rejection/loss and patient death.  It appears to me that Testosterone levels should be a part of assessment for any man in poor health and/or headed for surgery.

In Older Men an Optimal Plasma Testosterone Is Associated With Reduced All-Cause Mortal... - 0 views

  •
Australian study of older men, 70-89, found that normal Testosterone and DHT levels were associated with lower death rates.  This is important as this is the first study to find the positive health benefit of DHT as well as Testosterone.
