To counter this view, the edupunk/DIY approach to learning has produced an emphasis on personal learning environments and networks. To date, this movement has generated a following from a small passionate group of educators, but has not really made much of an impact on traditional education. I don’t suspect it will until, sadly, it can be commoditized and scaled to fit into existing systemic models of education.

Adobe Connect has somewhat of an academic presence, but it has seen far more success in corporate settings, similar to WebEx and GoToMeeting.

Some universities are beginning to focus on a big-picture view of technology: making learning resources available in multimedia, integrating technology from design to delivery, using mobile technologies, and increased focus on network pedagogy. Blackboard (and LMS' in general) have been able to present the message that "you need an LMS to do blended and online learning". To counter this view, the edupunk/DIY approach to learning has produced an emphasis on personal learning environments and networks.

The challenge lies not in attracting smart, personable people to teaching, but in retaining them

Continuity and consistency are as vital for students as for teachers trying to establish relationships with their charges and develop teaching and learning strategies.

Political Debate In Australia - 1 views

Despite the exponential increases in public education and access to information in the past century, the quality of political debate appears to have become increasingly unsophisticated, appealing to the lowest common denominator of understanding

In 1860 the technology was primitive but the ideas were profound and sophisticated. In 2011 technology is sophisticated but the ideas uttered by presidential aspirants are embarrassing in their banality, ignorance and naivety.

In 2006 I suggested that it might be time to actually define ''Education'', something omitted in the draft bill, and to explore its role in personal and community life, but this was rejected as too ambitious.

Buy Negative Google Reviews - SmmTopMarket - 0 views

Buy Negative Google Reviews Assuming you are looking to buy negative Google reviews in an effort to improve your business's online reputation, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First and foremost, it is important to remember that when you buy negative Google reviews, you are essentially paying someone to lie about your business. As such, it is important to be very careful about who you purchase these reviews from. There are a lot of scam artists out there who will take your money and then either never deliver the promised reviews or deliver reviews that are so obviously fake that they do little to help your business. When looking for a company to buy negative Google reviews from, be sure to do your research. Read online reviews of the company you are considering using and look for any red flags. You should also make sure that the company offers a money-back guarantee in case you are not satisfied with the reviews they provide. Another thing to keep in mind when buying negative Google reviews is that you need to be realistic about the number of positive reviews your business has. If your business has a ton of positive reviews, then a few negative reviews are not going to have a huge impact on your overall rating. However, if your business has very few positive reviews, then even a few negative reviews can have a significant impact. As such, it is important to only purchase a few negative reviews if your business has a relatively good online reputation. If your business has a poor online reputation, you may want to purchase more negative reviews in an effort to offset the positive reviews. At the end of the day, buying negative Google reviews is a bit of a gamble. There is no guarantee that the reviews you purchase will be realistic or helpful. However, if you do your research and purchase from a reputable company, you should be able to get some negative reviews that will improve your business's online reputation. The world of online revie

Life of an Educator by Justin Tarte: The importance of literacy... - 1 views
-
"The simplest acquisition of literacy can have a profoundly empowering effect personally, socially and politically. Literacy gives people tools with which to improve their livelihoods, participate in community decision-making, gain access to information about health care, and above all, it enables individuals to realize their rights as citizens and human beings. Literacy is not just about reading and writing; it is about respect, opportunity and development..."
SearchReSearch: Presentation on "What does it mean to be literate in the Age of Google?" - 2 views

From Dan Russell. Abstract: What does it mean to be literate at a time when you can search over billions of texts in less than 300 milliseconds? Although you might think that "literacy" is one of the great constants that transcends the ages, the skills of a literate person have changed substantially over time as texts and technology allow for new kinds of reading and understanding. Knowing how to read is just the beginning of it-knowing how to frame a question, pose a query, how to interpret the texts that you find, how to organize and use the information you discover, how to understand your metacognition-these are all critical parts of being literate as well.

Helping students to become problem finders - The Learner's Way - 0 views
-
For students engaging in creative personalised learning projects such as a 'Genius Hour' or 'Personal Passion project it can often be difficult for them to uncover the right project. Students have become so reliant upon their teachers to pose them problems that when they are given the option to explore one of their own design they don't know where to start. This is indeed a significant challenge as we know that our students will enter a workforce and world of learning beyond school where they must be active problem finders. How then might we provide the support they require without removing the opportunity for truly personalised exploration.
How to teach students to build a positive online identity | eSchool News | eSchool News - 3 views

"Students understand the power of social media but are they making good decisions about what to post online? How can we, as educators, help them understand not just the immediacy of their posts but also the permanence of online communications? Learning is becoming more digital and educators at all levels should be instrumental in building students' understanding about how their online presence impacts both their personal and future professional lives. Educators are also instrumental in helping students develop lifelong habits to create and maintain a positive online identity. You can look to the 2015 ISTE White Paper, Building and Keeping a Positive Digital Identity, to help kids be more intentional in what they post online. This paper applies ISTE standards to the idea of building and maintaining a positive online identity. It poses five questions adults can use to kick-start meaningful conversations about online behaviour and identity."

Twitter has become so much more than the "I'm hungry" kind of service. It contains 140's of what we are. This content is hidden somewhere behind the small avatar and last tweets in a user's timeline. We are here to make it visible. We take a bag of tweets, analyze them, and create a profile page which show-casts the person behind them. Currently we focus on behavior patterns, Famous words, Top Followers, Links, Replies, Songs, Pictures and Check-ins.

Emerging Practice in a Digital Age : JISC | Diigo - 1 views
-
Aimed at those in further and higher education who design and support learning, the guide draws on recent JISC reports and case studies to investigate how the emergence of new and more powerful technologies together with an increase in personal ownership of these technologies are changing the way we connect, communicate and collaborate, and how these changes can benefit learning. The focus of this guide is on emerging practice rather than emerging technology.
