This could be a great resource as a fun follow up with certain topics students are learning.  It could also be a good individual time to explore what they are interested in, whether it be at school or at home!

This is a nice resource for games and interactive activities to give students information on the orchestra/orchestral instruments, composers, and the musicians in the orchestra. My students love games and they obviously love technology so I think combining these would be great. This would probably be better for a SMARTboard, rather than projecting it from a computer to the TV because the SMARTboard allows kids to get more involved.

This website is fantastic for students as individuals or as a full class activity! Step by step it takes them on a safari to learn about each instrument of the orchestra using Benjamin Britten's "A Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra". It is kid-friendly and would be great for students in 2nd and 3rd grade. It tests their listening skills using games deciphering things like notes in a sequence, or high and low.

I found this site while discovering music technology for Module 5. This is a great interactive game for elementary age children who are or have studied instruments, instrument families, and the orchestra. It teaches the player new information, assesses their understanding of that information, and has opportunities for further study.

The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra allows students to learn all about the different instruments in the orchestra, as well as listening examples of classical pieces of music. The games provide a brief lesson, and then students can participate through interactive games. I find this site very informative and the kids love the story line that goes along with the game sequence. Great resource in preparation for our annual Young People's Concert at the Bob Carr in Orlando.

The National Association for Music Education website is an incredible resources for all music educators.  On this site, users can access articles published by fellow educators and professors on an array of topics.  Users can also gain insight on lesson planning, upcoming events, career opportunities, and access to a community of music educators.  Research studies published through NAfME provide valuable information for students to read and analyze.  Students can access valuable resources, discover music events, and gain information regarding auditions.

This is a fantastic flash-based website with many free music games. Students can create an avatar that moves around Quaver's music shop and studio, finding music games to play. Games focus on composition, ear training, and responding. The free games are just the beginning- Quaver Music offers a comprehensive, standards-based K-6 curriculum that is loaded with hundreds of interactive songs, lesson plans, assessment tools, video episodes, games, and more. An annual subscription is required, but teachers can purchase smaller sections of the curriculum to meet their specific needs.

Teoria is a free website that provides a variety of written and aural music theory exercises that are useful for college and high school age students. Students can customize the exercises and work through them at their own pace.

Teoria is a great music theory website. There are tutorials for theory basics and exercises for ear training. This could be very useful for older students, especially students headed off to music schools and will have to take theory exams.

This website has many references, tutorials, and exercises for ear training activities. Some uses include melodic and harmonic dictation. This would be a good resource in a general music or music theory setting. Any music student could also use this on their own time to improve their aural skills. 

A valuable music theory teaching tool. It is a free alternative that gives tutorials and lessons on intervals, ear training, chords, harmonic functions, and musical form.

Teoria.com is a comprehensive music theory website with music theory tutorials, music theory and ear training exercises, music theory reference files, and music theory articles. The student may work his or her way through the different element or just choose an area for review. The only thing lacking is an assessment area.

This site is always under development. A person can be a member, donate, or use the many free interactive links. HNU's Kodaly Center Collection is one of the music education websites that I frequent. This website allows the view to search through a vast collection of Kodaly songs to use in the classroom. These songs can be searched based upon grade level, type of song, origin and many more filters. Song types include dance and partner games, as well as call and response songs. There are songs in many different languages, some that may be familiar to students and some that would be brand new.

This is a collection of American Folk songs. The use of this would be to give a library of music for general music for elementary students to perform and practice. It would help fulfill many standards within the general music class.

This is a Kodaly folk song collection from Holy Names University. Users can search by element, grade, region, subject, and more.

This is a great site for honing in on one specific skill being taght at a time. Most teachers use method books in lesson, which are of course very beneficial but may not put enough emphasis on a specific musical concept. This site has music in several categoires including finger patterns, shifting, and rhythm to name a few. Some of the categories have downloadable curricula as well, making it a great guide for novice teacher or even experienced teachers looking for new materials to work with.

StringSkills.com is an excellent free resource for string teaching materials. Compiled by Gabriel Villasurda, this site contains fingering charts/suggestions, rhythmic practices (and crazy tunes to help reinforce the learning) as well as bowing techniques, scales and shifting. There are even challenge pieces to be played on one string. Definitely worthwhile for string teachers.

This website has free, downloadable exercises that address many string techniques. There are exercises for bowings, finger patterns, scales of varying difficulties, shifting, rhythm, and key signatures. This could be a great resource to push students from a beginner/intermediate level to being able to play advanced repertoire that involve complex rhythms, articulations and key areas. I would like to use this for upper middle school students to prepare them for high school instrumental programs.

This is the Choral Public Domain Library. Users can search this database of public domain choral works for classroom use.

CPDL is an bottomless vat of choral music, most of it older than 100 years old and thus in the public domain. Not all music on here is in the public domain. The music that isn't is clearly noted as such.

This is a great resource for any educators. Teachers pay teachers is an online website where teacher share and sell their creative ideas for other teachers to use in their classrooms. You can purchase materials, lessons plans, assessments, and pretty much anything for a lesson plan you are using, or in need of. You are also able to upload and sell your creative ideas to collaborate with your colleagues. This is a useful tool if you find yourself in a jam for a lesson or in need of supplemental materials.

Teachers Pay Teachers is a resource for a wide variety of teacher-created lesson plans. Teacher-authors can share their lesson plans and resources via digital download, and receive payment in return. The search function allows teachers to find materials related to a particular subject and view the ratings from other users. Music teachers need to use careful keywords and search tactics to weed out lessons aimed at incorporating songs in the general classroom, but there are many great music education plans about music elements, instruments, guided listening, etc., as well as rubrics and visual aids.

I love to check out teachers pay teachers when I need new ideas on teaching music and generally I look for music games. I actually have a store on TPT, but hardly upload anything because I stay busy. While many of the resources are for purchase the cost is minimal and there are many available for free. The musical content ranges from specific learning objectives (like steady beat for elementary classrooms) to entire curricular supplements using specific teaching methods (such as Kodaly). While there are resources for performing ensembles, most tend to be for elementary or beginning performing ensemble classes.

Great resource for all subject matters. It also keeps a library of all your purchases in case you lose them. All lessons I have bought through here have been of very good quality and easy to use.

When teaching a specific concept in music class such a dynamics, this resource will have vocabulary with pictures, power-points, and activities to play with students in order to reinforce the concept. It is a great website that eliminates the time component of creating these documents on your own time, while also supporting others teachers with inexpensive prices for their products.
