    Great free DAW to help give students a chance to explore loop software. This is a simple and easy access for students instead of needing them to use GarageBand or Mixcraft on a limited amount of computers. The possibility of having an account and working from anywhere is a big plus for using this DAW

    Soundtrap is a browser-based DAW that allows users to create and collaborate compositions or podcasts. Soundtrap offers a paid subscription allowing teachers to setup a private classroom and monitor/grade/comment on their students work. This DAW can be used for a plethora of creative tasks in music. It's primary affordance is that it is browser-based and compositions are saved via cloud storage.

The program is free to use, and although there is a premium version, the free version has all the tools needed for learning and creating notated music. All works are saved in the cloud and can be accessed at anytime from any device that can access the website, making music composition easier than ever.

    Noteflight is a free browser-based music notation tool. The software has cloud storage allowing you to work on creative musical products from any computer with an internet connection. It also connects to MIDI instruments. Noteflight has a paid subscription which allows you to store unlimited compositions, full access to all sounds, transposition, and the ability to print individual parts. Student accounts can be purchased which you to create "closed" classrooms allowing for creative musical products and collaboration amongst peers.

    Auralia5 and Musition5 are very good soft wares for a music classroom. Auralia is for ear training, while Musition is for music theory. These softwares enhance a student's musicianship through very interesting activities of listening, composing, notating music, and sight reading/playing. A school has to purchase the software, though it is cloud based. The teacher adds students to different classes in the groups so that when assignments are set, they are easily submitted to the class where they belong. Teachers can create and assign worksheets, tests, and courses, and grade his/her students online as well. Tracking allows the teachers to run exams with high quality content that students love. Reports are also created in the software and parents can access their children's performance. Auralia and Musition are perfect for students of all ages and abilities. Auralia has a clean, easy to use interface designed to keep students focused on their essential ear training task.

    A web-based sight-reading tool that general exercises that can be customized to meet the needs of your band program. You can create opportunities for individual sight-reading as well full ensemble. The assessment tool can track the progress and report the practice sessions.     The Sight Reading Factory link is one of the best sight-reading websites I have come across to date.  Within the free demo, I was able to access sight reading exercises for a number of band, instrumental, and vocal practice lessons.  In my personal exploration of the demo, I first looked into locating sight reading exercises for piano.  I was able to edit the time signature and key signature before seeing the practice exercises.  This feature is GREAT for people who are learning to play/count in different meters or using accidentals in their piano playing.  The same can be said for people learning to utilize solfedge in their singing, utilize new fingerings in their instrumental playing, or simply challenge themselves.  The website offers multiple difficulty levels, making the use of this website in a secondary music school setting ideal.  Sight reading exercises and study are some of the major contributors to my development as a musician and educator.  Since the exercises are generated on command, the site provides unlimited sight reading exercises to its users, making its longevity a strong selling-point.

The technical support is great, and can problem solve quickly. Build sight-reading skills with the entire class, or create individual sight-reading assignments for students. Educators can generate custom sight-reading examples by easy selection of criteria. This site is worth the money and can be beneficial for student achievement in learning to read and sing musical notation.

    This site can be used for practicing sight reading. The possibilities of combinations of notes, short songs, and everything can be found here. I have even found that state all-state bands have used it to create their sight reading pieces for all state band. It does cost, but the price can be worth it even if just a teacher subscription is bought.

    Flat is a full-featured online music notation tool. The product has commercial and educational versions. The educational version has teacher administrative controls and allows an educator to integrate Flat into common learning management services including Google Classroom and Canvas. Students and teachers can collaborate on the same notation projects, and have the ability to integrate and link to external content (e.g. YouTube). Flat also has a plugin for Google Documents which allows users to create and embed short selections of music notation into their work.

Students can easily learn how to arrange or create compositions here. Collaboration on projects is simple. Projects can be shared with one another.     FLAT is essentially Google's attempt at notation software. Thus, it is extremely intuitive. Though more limited than other programs, it essentially does everything a student composer would need. Students can sign up for an account with a Gmail address and can easily share their scores with each other and their teacher.

    Music notation softwares like Finale and Sibelius are quite costly for students to purchase and use. Flat.io is a free online music notation software that allows you to notate music online, and share it with your friends in the cloud. It is collaborative in a way that people get to comment on your music, and you also get to comment on other people's compositions. All you need is to sign up with either google, facebook, or with your email address. It is a good resource for teachers to set notation assignments, and while students do the assignments, they learn many concepts in music such as tempo, speed, dynamics, phrasing, structure, to mention but a few.

All the audio is stored and processed on the server, so you don't need to download anything, or save your work when you are done. Close your browser window and your work is saved.     This is a fantastic flash-based website with many free music games. Students can create an avatar that moves around Quaver's music shop and studio, finding music games to play. Games focus on composition, ear training, and responding. The free games are just the beginning- Quaver Music offers a comprehensive, standards-based K-6 curriculum that is loaded with hundreds of interactive songs, lesson plans, assessment tools, video episodes, games, and more. An annual subscription is required, but teachers can purchase smaller sections of the curriculum to meet their specific needs.
