About Those Commercial Ratings - 0 views

  • About Those Commercial Ratings
  •
This week Nielsen Media Research fielded countless calls from networks and agencies alike in regards to the processing method for commercial ratings. After this year's broadcast upfront was negotiated almost entirely using the new currency of "C3," which measures who watched commercials live plus three additional days of time-shifted viewing, the idea was that more accountability would be brought to the TV-buying process.

Shop Talk - Innovation, Marketing and Alliances - 0 views

But as more and more business becomes collaborative and partner-driven, a new kind of negotiation is becoming common. Sometimes it is called "win-win," or "implementation-oriented." At any rate, it is not a transaction that ends with signing papers and handing over money. It is one that begins that way.

Should You Stop Blogging? | WebProNews - 0 views

  • Writing a weblog today isn't the bright idea it was four years ago. The blogosphere, once a freshwater oasis of folksy self-expression and clever thought, has been flooded by a tsunami of paid bilge. Cut-rate journalists and underground marketing campaigns now drown out the authentic voices of amateur wordsmiths. It's almost impossible to get noticed, except by hecklers. And why bother? The time it takes to craft sharp, witty blog prose is better spent expressing yourself on Flickr, Facebook, or Twitter.

The Magical Number Seven - 0 views

  • And finally, what about the magical number seven? What about the seven wonders of the world, the seven seas, the seven deadly sins, the seven daughters of Atlas in the Pleiades, the seven ages of man, the seven levels of hell, the seven primary colors, the seven notes of the musical scale, and the seven days of the week? What about the seven-point rating scale, the seven categories for absolute judgment, the seven objects in the span of attention, and the seven digits in the span of immediate memory? For the present I propose to withhold judgment. Perhaps there is something deep and profound behind all these sevens, something just calling out for us to discover it. But I suspect that it is only a pernicious, Pythagorean coincidence.

TVA touts the green power that costs more; Solar, wind present prettier image than chea... - 0 views

  •
The Tennessee Valley Authority could be generating more "alternative" energy for less cost, if only the public wasn't so enamored with wind and solar power. Methane gas, formed as human and animal waste or garbage decays, produces more power dollar for dollar. It's half as expensive as wind power and a tenth the cost of solar power, according to TVA figures. But, coming from a stinky mess, it lacks appeal to the rate-paying public. TVA depends on ratepayers' choosing to pay extra to help fund alternative energy sources. "From a marketing viewpoint, it's hard to promote," said Jim Keiffer, TVA senior vice president of marketing. ... That's why TVA's program, Green Power Switch, available through distributors including Nashville Electric Service, requires that at least half the energy it creates come from the favorites: solar and wind.
