What is power? At the most general level, power is the ability to influence the behavior of others to get the outcomes one wants. There are several ways to affect the behavior of others. You can coerce them with threats. You can induce them with payments. Or you can attract or co-opt them.

Will the popularity of blogging lead to its demise? While so many people recognize the power of Digg when it comes to getting people to “vote” on what articles are the ones that you can’t miss. If only it were so easy to have customers, employees, stockholders or just about anyone vote on innovation ideas.

For business blogging skeptics, the idea that a roofing company would bother with a blog might seem ludicrous.  But that kind of thinking betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of the power of the new generation of business blogs.

Doing even a few of these things will set you apart from the vast majority of people who view social network sites as toys and networking as “just for fun” (though it can be fun, too).

Social networking sites have a reputation as being huge time wasters, and for most people, they are. If you can afford that luxury, more power to you; for the rest of you, really think about what social networking can do for you and focus your energies to making that work.

I’m going to review an analytics package that I have fallen in love with over the past two weeks. It’s called Clicky. The tag line for the site is “Web Analytics 2.0″ and “Clicky makes web analytics easy, fun, powerful, and drop dead gorgeous.”

Perry shared many lessons learned, and chose to focus people’s attention on the pitfalls of PMs (in addition to their power). Implementation can take a long time. It’s a change management process. Don’t suppress the reputational incentives associated with PMs. Be explicit and transparent about how traders will be compensated.

Now video is coming into the user’s hands, and audience-building by former members of the audience is alive and well on the Web. You were once (exclusively) the editors of the news, choosing what ran on the front page. Now we can edit the news, and our choices send items to our own front pages. A highly centralized media system had connected people “up” to big social agencies and centers of power but not “across” to each other. Now the horizontal flow, citizen-to-citizen, is as real and consequential as the vertical one.
