I LOVE Discovery Education! I had an account for a while and I used it a lot in my class. They have a variety of resources that can be used in the room. I especially like their videos! The footage is high quality and you can be sure that it will address the topic that you are searching for.
  •
I've never have used or heard of Discovery Education, I just checked it out and think that it is great! I think that I could use this resource efficientlly in my own classroom because you can never have too many resources; especially free ones! I see that there is use for both students and teachers, I'm not sure how great it will be for students though.

Free Interactive Whiteboard Resources | TeachHUB - 0 views

  •
A great free resource for classrooms that use interactive whiteboards.
  •
This looks like a great collection of resources for teachers with an interactive whiteboard. Interactive whiteboards, in my opinion, are an underutilized technology. I know that I definitely do not do enough with the one in my own classroom. As a teacher, it is difficult to create activities for the whiteboard completely from scratch. This seems to be a good place to start. I especially appreciate the breadth of subjects that the activities encompass. Thank you for sharing!

Khan Academy - 1 views

  • You only have to know one thing:
  •
Learn for free about math, art, computer programming, economics, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, finance, history, and more. Khan Academy is a nonprofit with the mission of providing a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. I use this site in my math class when we are starting a new unit. My student preview video lessons on this site, and do some practice problems to prepare for the next unit.

Khan Academy is for more than math? I never knew! I have used this before to help my ELLs in their math classes. I will have to check out the other options the website offers.

We just looked at this the other day in our online class! I definitely think this would be a really beneficial as a supplemental resource. Although I wonder would it be worthy enough to use in a lesson or in a classroom? By this I mean is it mainly working through slides and problems? Does it benefit to problem-based learning as much? To me it seems to be mainly for student use in that the teacher doesn't do much in helping other than giving them the links for it.
  •
I definitely think that if I were to use this resource in my classroom, it would be supplemental to my lessons. If students were not understanding the content of the lesson, I would give them the link to the correct videos from this website and ask them to watch. I also could see myself asking students to get a username and log into the site to work on problems so that I could see their understanding of the concepts. I think this resource could be for both student and teacher use: the students watch the videos and work on the problems, the teachers see how students do on the problems and adjust their lessons as necessary. One thing I found interesting about this website is if you click "Test Prep," the only tests that are listed are SAT, MCAT, NCLEX-RN, GMAT, CAHSEE, IIT JEE, and... AP Art History (along with a couple of others that look to be in a different language than English). Why is AP Art History the only AP test included in the test prep?! I think this is an area that this website could expand upon, but don't get me wrong, I think this is a great resource. (In particular, the math videos and lessons of Khan Academy are very strong.)

I use this site to find MANY great technology resources for my class! And the best part is that these resources are all FREE! Use this site to watch videos and read blogs about how to use technology in a meaningful way in your classroom!1
  •
I had never seen this site. I am very happy to see it. Thank you. I will use this for a project or two!
  •
This site has great resources that can be used in my classroom. One post from this blog is about "How to share videos through Google drive". At times students have an assignment where they have to create a video and it would be easier for them to submit the video to me through Google drive instead of posting it on a public site. This resource could be equally useful for teachers. Teachers can share videos with students or with colleagues through Google drive. Similar resources could be dropbox and learning management systems such as e-learning, Canvas or Blackboard.
  •
This is an awesome blog for teachers! It seems that most of these tools can easily be used for teachers in the classroom. I would definitely like to use some of this technology anyway. It really is geared towards educators and it is nice that they are quick to read for those teachers who don't have much free time.

Khan Academy - 1 views

This is a great learning website that is completely free. They have various educational topics for all different age groups.
  •
I also just recently started using Khan academy with my students. Even though we follow a constructivist approach to teaching math, this resource has been helpful for my kids who need procedural examples. Plus sometimes it is more engaging to listen to someone else teach it!
  •
I do like the free aspect of Khan Academy - due in part to funding by The Gates Foundation. I love the variety of topics available, and the ability to engage in "hip pocket learning" whenever I wish. Honestly, I am sad that Bank of America has become a sponsor of Khan Academy, however. It seems like they would have less of an interest in learning for learning's sake.

Schoology - Free Classroom LMS - 3 views

  •
Schoology is a relatively new free learning management system for educators. Similar in nature to Edmodo, it currently allows the educator a few more abilities, resources, and customization that isn't offered in Edmodo.
  •
o Do agree or disagree that the resource can be used efficiently in your own future classroom? Explain why or why not. Yes, this feature CAN and HAS been used in my classroom to much success. Students really seem to prefer it over other LMS websites like Edmodo or Moodle because of the ease of use, different resources, mobile app, and the App Store. I use it for distributing and collecting assignments, taking polls and surveys, and for taking assessments such as quizzes and tests. o Do you believe the resource is mostly for teacher use, student use, or both? Explain your perceptions constructively. This resource is used by both the teacher and the students in order to be effective. The teacher is the one who sets up the page, creates the assignments, links, quizzes, polls, etc and the students use the site to effectively manage their learning process. It has really helped to take away the complaints and excuses that I typically get from students not knowing what they are supposed to do and where everything is located. I think one of the major advantages to Schoology is the ease of being able to find Files/Links and Assignments. o Are you aware of any similar resources that should be considered? If so, what are those resources. This task is similar to our threaded discussions. You want your comments to be constructive. Repeat this step for the remaining three bookmarks you are required to comment on. Other possible LMS websites that I have used are: Moodle, Edmodo, and Blackboard. There are many, many others as this is a highly innovative arena right now and out of all of them, Schoology seems to really impress most educators who have tried using it.
  •
I really like the looks of schoolology, Jeremy! I can see how this would be very useful in a junior high or high school classroom. Especially in a school that has gone 1:1! If fifth grade students had their own computers, I would definitely use this as a classroom management tool! I think this is a great way for educators, students, and parents to all be on the same page regarding assignments and class expectations. I really like the Text/SMS feature! As you had stated in your description. This is very similar to Edmodo, which I'm familiar with. Thank you for sharing!

Are they any specific websites you have looked at or used from this page? There looks to be a lot of neat ones. I saw Storyboard That was on here. I have used that with my students to create a children's story. I am eager to check out some of the others sites and to learn how I can incorporate them into my classroom.

Megan, Thanks for sharing this website with us. I have worked with a Tech Director who used Symbaloo, and it was an extremely organized way to share resources with other teachers. I highly suggest Symbaloo! Teachers, parents, and students used the Symbaloo page in this district. For example, if you were a 3rd grade teacher, you could click on the 3rd grade page. Next, click on the subject you are interested in. Let's say you want to help a student with math. Once you've clicked on the math page, it may even be broken down into more categories (such as decimals). You will then find LOTS of resources that a student can use to help them with decimals. Very cool and organized!!! Amanda

I can use the resources posted on this site in my classroom to enhance learning. These resources can be used by both teachers and students for interactive learning experiences. I am familiar with Edmodo and I like the many features it offers to teachers and students. In my school we use Canvas, which is based on a similar concept. However the Edmodo interface is very similar to Facebook which can be more user friendly for students.

This resource is valuable to students and teachers. The first video on talks about how it can be used by anyone. My concern is that the video was made in 2007. That seems like a long time ago I wonder what the updated video looks like? I am very glad to hear there are alternatives to Blackboard and Google classroom but I wonder if the alternatives to these big shots work the same?

10 of the Most Engaging Uses of Instructional Technology (with Dozens of Resources and ... - 1 views

  • The 2014 Gates Foundation report, Teachers Know Best: What Educators Want from Digital Instructional Tools, indicates that teachers want tools “supporting student collaboration and providing interactive experiences”. These types of tools are fun and engaging, and they support 21st century skills like collaboration, communication, and creativity. Learning this compelled me to write the article, “20 Fun Free Tools for Interactive Classroom Collaboration”, which has been in the top 10 most popular posts on the site since I published it in May. We followed that in July with “5 More Cool Tools to Take Classroom Collaboration to a New Level”, another popular post. So there you have over two dozen fun free interactive collaboration tools to consider using in your classes this year!
