Launched in March 2010, Object Stories invites visitors to record their own narratives about personal objects-whether a piece of clothing, a cherished record album, or a family heirloom.  By capturing, honoring, and sharing participants' stories, this project aims to demystify the Museum, making it more accessible, welcoming, and meaningful to a greater diversity of communities - while continuing to highlight the inherent relationship between people and things.  Nearly one thousand people from throughout Portland-most of who had never before set foot in the Museum-have participated as storytellers in this project.

I was reminded of these two design principles when exploring the Johnny Cash Project, a crowd-created music video for a posthumous recording of Cash singing "Ain't No Grave." To construct the video, artist Chris Milk assembled images and footage of Johnny Cash in a sequence along with the song. That's hardly revolutionary. But what happened next is: Milk created a simple tool to invite visitors to augment the frames of the video with digital brushstrokes. The result is a beautiful animated video that composites together alternative frames created by participants all over the world.

Based on the semantically-enriched data model, we have implemented three different components/tools in the CHIP demonstrator: Artwork Recommender, web-based virtual Tour Wizard and PDA-based Mobile Tour. (i) Artwork Recommender. a Web-based rating dialog for artworks/topics to build a user profile, based on semantics-driven recommendations. (ii) Tour Wizard. a Web-based tool using the user prole to generate (semi)automatically personalization virtual museum tours for each user. [murmur] is a documentary oral history project that records stories and memories told about specific geographic locations. In each of these locations there is a [murmur] sign with a phone number on it that anyone can call to listen to a story while experiencing being right where the story takes place.

Winning performance from the Museum's Gladiatorial poetry slam that took place in September. Young poets used the theme of Roman London (Londinium) as inspiration. The slam was part of the Museum's Stories of the World project in which young people aged 14-24 are interpreting collections in new ways and co-curating an exhibition for 2012. A project by the MoMa. They asked their audience to tell their MoMa story. As a starting line they gave them the words: "I Went to MoMA and ...

"Mapping Main Street is a collaborative documentary media project that creates a new map of the country through stories, photos and videos recorded on actual Main Streets. The goal is to document all of the more than 10,000 streets named Main in the United States. We invite you to capture the stories and images of the country today. Go out, look around, talk to people, and contribute to this re-mapping of the United States."

This project presents a collective portrait of workers who keep New York City running. Their stories unfold in a series of multimedia profiles produced by students at the Columbia Journalism School.

Eleven projects result from the first two calls for proposals under FP7. Start dates are between November 2007 and February 2009/25 research projects have been launched and will be running up to 2009.

The main aim of the study was to analyse the 2.0 environment, which had been set up six months before, and put forward actions to improve it. > Of all the networks analysed, the blog is the key: it serves as a tool for dissemination, a discussion space and a means of creating content.

"Since 2003, StoryCorps has collected and archived more than 30,000 interviews from more than 60,000 participants. Each conversation is recorded on a free CD to share, and is preserved at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind, and millions listen to our broadcasts on public radio and the web."

Art.sy evaluates artworks along 200+ characteristics-such as art-historical movements, subject matter, and formal qualities-to create a powerful search experience that reflects the multifaceted aspects of works of art.

The Animal Bytes project at the Museum of Zoology is capturing stories of the Museum and responses to its collections from staff and visitors of all kinds.

Housed in a landmark industrial building on the south bank of the River Tyne in Gateshead, BALTIC is a major international centre for contemporary art. BALTIC has no permanent collection, providing instead an ever-changing calendar of exhibitions and events that give a unique and compelling insight into contemporary artistic practice. BALTIC's dynamic, diverse and international programme ranges from blockbuster exhibitions to innovative new work and projects created by artists working within the local community.

Museums are quickly adapting to Web 2.0, and engaging with a new on-line audience. Social media projects are being developed and used by museum staff, and curators are starting to explore this new space. When the Powerhouse Museum's curatorial department created their first blog, they had no idea what they were in for, or what challenges they would face. They also had little idea of how curators as a whole are participating in social media activities. This paper will use the Powerhouse Museum's 'Object of the Week' blog and a major international survey of curators to investigate how social media activities are impacting on curatorial practice.

This project investigates the use of Blogs by archives, libraries and historians on both an individual and organisational level.

Time travel through Bristol on the iPhone: The Time Traveller's Guide to Bristol project will launch a website later this week and an iPhone app at on July 28, allowing users to browse archive material and upload their own images of contemporary Bristol. It features 100 years of film and photography focused on six areas of Bristol, and invites users to superimpose archive material on a 3D model of contemporary shots - some of which were badly damaged during WW2, like Castle Park.
