Das neue Langzeitprojekt von Mats Staub ist eine Einladung an dich, diese Fragen zu beantworten. Es beginnt 2013 mit zwei ineinandergreifenden Formaten: Als web-basierte Sammlung und als Kunst-plakat-Aktion - beide Formate wollen die Besucherinnen und Besucher dazu anregen, selber zur Sammlung wichtigster Ereignisse beizutragen.

Vom 15. September bis am 1. Oktober 2011 entstanden in einem unserer Fenster "Archivitäten" zu 130 Jahre Loeb. Dabei handelte es sich um ein Schaufenster, in dem der Kunstblogger Roger Levy öffentlich arbeitete. Er führte Gespräche mit Passanten aber auch mit geladenen Gästen. Letztere wurden aufgezeichnet und sind in diesem Blog hörbar. Auch das Download auf den eigenen Player ist möglich. 

The Frontlines aims to combine the 40,000 organizations that support veterans into one network of veterans, active duty, military families and citizens together to overcome the obstacles vets typically face. The Frontlines is a network for armed forces, veterans and citizens to provide 400,000 filtered resources, education and the ability to share their stories. The site is used also used for mentorship to aid in gainful employment, supporting wounded veterans and success during the transition from the military.

Bletchley Park was the site of the United Kingdom's main codebreaking facility during the second world war. This is the place where the Enigma code that was used to encrypt military communications by Nazi Germany was broken. This is said to have brought the war in Europe to an end two years earlier than if the Enigma code had not been decrypted. This is a collection of interviews with people who worked there

This afternoon I am going to try and answer this question, What can social media do for oral history. I am going to look at a few examples which caught my attention and talk about what we can learn from these projects.

A platform for privat oral history

"Mapping Main Street is a collaborative documentary media project that creates a new map of the country through stories, photos and videos recorded on actual Main Streets. The goal is to document all of the more than 10,000 streets named Main in the United States. We invite you to capture the stories and images of the country today. Go out, look around, talk to people, and contribute to this re-mapping of the United States."

HERE IS NEW YORK is not a conventional gallery show. It is something new, a show tailored to the nature of the event, and to the response it has elicited. The exhibition is subtitled "A Democracy of Photographs" because anyone and everyone who has taken pictures relating to the tragedy was invited to submit their images to the gallery, where they were digitally scanned, printed and displayed on the walls alongside the work of top photojournalists and other professional photographers.

"Since 2003, StoryCorps has collected and archived more than 30,000 interviews from more than 60,000 participants. Each conversation is recorded on a free CD to share, and is preserved at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind, and millions listen to our broadcasts on public radio and the web."
