Manche Tage sind wirklich verrückt...vielleicht sollte man sie einfach nicht beginnen...oder einen Plan dafür machen! So ein Tag ist der 1. Februar 2012! Nicole Simon postete auf Facebook, dass sie  nur gute Mails und Nachrichten bekommt...ich sehe aus dem Fenster und sehe den herrlichen Wintersonnenschein der das Herz wärmt und erinnere mich an den #followamuseum - Tag 2010...lieber nicht daran denken und  zwingen mich endlich den überfälligen Bürokram vom Tisch zu bekommen...dann flattern auch schon die Meldungen herein..."Auf Facebook wird über den Sinn und Unsinn von Twitter für Museen diskutiert!" @cogries findet im Web einen wirklich spannenden Artikel über genau dieses Thema und auch bei mir flattern wie bei Nicole gute Nachrichten auf den Bildschirm! ... die Finger krabbeln und ich beginne zu schreiben...

Social Tagging-Projekt aus D.: Was machen wir, um diese Reproduktionen wiederzufinden, und zwar möglichst nach den unterschiedlichsten Kritereien geordnet? Manchmal wollen wir Bilder finden, die einen spezifischen Inhalt oder eine spezifische Form haben. Da die Möglichkeiten, über den Computer direkt auf die Reproduktion zuzugreifen, noch sehr beschränkt sind, vergeben wir Schlagworte, sogenannte Metadaten. Das ist ein sehr zeitraubendes Geschäft und kann am besten von einer großen Anzahl von Mitarbeiter/innen übernommen werden. Um diesen Beitrag bitten wir Sie mit diesem Spiel. ... Der zugrundeliegende Bilderbestand wird der Datenbank Artemis entnommen, die am Institut für Kunstgeschichte der LMU München in Zusammenarbeit mit der IT-Gruppe Geisteswissenschaften der Universität aufgebaut wurde und die inzwischen mehr als 25.000 Bilder enthält. Die Redaktion des Kraut-Magazin hat verschiedene Fotografen unserer neuen Ausstellung "State of the Art Photography" in einer ganz speziellen Art interviewt: Die Frage wurde wie gewohnt als Text gestellt, die Antwort darauf kam aber jeweils als Foto zurück. Following my post yesterday about the way in which RFID tags have been used in an exhibition, today I visited Mediamatic a Dutch digital / arts company who do some really exciting work.

Search 69,530 objects collected from 1880 to the present day from steam engines to fine glassware, postage stamps to robot dogs. Bob Meade has been one of our most prolific 'friends' on Flickr. He has done an enormous amount of tagging, added a great deal of additional research to our images, and was the man behind the discovery of the Mosman Bay Falls. Paula Bray (the Museum's Image Services Manager) and I conducted a long face to face interview with Bob who very generously agreed to speak to us about his background and motivations. It was an incredibly revealing interview that demonstrates the power of museums and cultural institutions opening up their collections to 'amateur' researchers and enthusiasts.

Sparked by previous discussions, I wonder if anyone is aware of any successful projects/tools that allow users to geotag resources on the web (or to contribute corrections/enhancements to things already tagged)

Diskussion Museum Computer Group: User generated / crowd-sourced geotagging? I'll just give one practical example..  Take an image such as one of the Normandy landings from the Imperial War Museum - http://bit.ly/cIr4zG.  The description tells us it was taken in Villers-Bocage.  I could then (or perhaps even an automated tool could) generate tags that put it in that locality.  And then someone who lives or visits there should be able to track it down pretty easily.  In fact people have done such things - see http://virtualfunzone.com/normandy-1944-then-and-now.html - but for all their effort, without that relatively small step that such a tool would have facilitated nothing has gone back to the original images.  Without that an opportunity of providing an enhanced experience, whether through a web tool like HistoryPin or via a mobile based AR app, is lost.

Based on the semantically-enriched data model, we have implemented three different components/tools in the CHIP demonstrator: Artwork Recommender, web-based virtual Tour Wizard and PDA-based Mobile Tour. (i) Artwork Recommender. a Web-based rating dialog for artworks/topics to build a user profile, based on semantics-driven recommendations. (ii) Tour Wizard. a Web-based tool using the user prole to generate (semi)automatically personalization virtual museum tours for each user.
