Während es inzwischen zahlreiche Museums-Apps gibt, sind Museen und Kultureinrichtungen im Mobile Web bislang kaum vertreten. Wir sammeln an dieser Stelle Beispiele für Museums-Websites, die für die Nutzung mit dem Browser eines Smartphones angepasst sind. Eine ganz neue Entwicklung: Web Apps, die in ihrer Funktionalität Apps nahe kommen, aber plattformunabhängig über den mobilen Browser aufgerufen werden. This article provides an overview for anyone producing content about these two options. We argue that most content producers should focus on the mobile web, especially if they want to make their content more widely accessible. Mobile apps may be appropriate if looking for new sources of revenue, or deep user engagement, but many other factors make the mobile web the more sensible platform for most content producers.

For Walker Open Field, we wanted a way to collect community submitted events and display them on our site. We have our own calendar and we discussed whether adding the events to our internal Calendar CMS was the best way, or if using an outside calendar solution was the direction to go. In the end, we decided to do both, using Google Calendar for community events and our own calendar CMS for Walker-programmed events.
